The Impact of Methamphetamine Use on the Family Cindy Giese, Special Agent in Charge, Division of Criminal Investigation, Wisconsin Department of Justice Description: Children that live in environments with methamphetamine use are in danger every day. Learn about the hazards that methamphetamine use and production create. Recognize the signs of children and families in methamphetamine crisis. Learn how the Drug Endangered Children (DEC) program can assist. Action: Use knowledge learned to implement a DEC program or increase support in your community. Content Level: Intermediate B. Learn about drug paraphernalia and how communities in Burnett, Barron, Rusk and Polk Counties have used the bedroom to spread awareness. Action: Bring Hiding in Plain Sight to your community. C. The Impact of Methamphetamine on Fetal Development and Newborn Behavior Kyle Mounts, Program Director, Wisconsin Association for Perinatal Care & Perinatal Foundation Description: Substances used by women during pregnancy can affect the fetus and newborn. This presentation will review the potential impact of maternal methamphetamine use on fetal development and newborn behavior. It will also describe the role of other co-existing environmental factors on outcomes. Action: Reach out to untreated methamphetamine addicted women, offer priority treatment to pregnant women and reduce the number of infants affected by methamphetamine. Content Level: Intermediate 2

Methamphetamine Trends Jay Smith, Special Agent in Charge, Division of Criminal Investigation, Wisconsin Department of Justice Description: Special Agent Smith will present information on the current drug trends, with a focus on methamphetamine in northwest Wisconsin, based on numerous investigations over the past decade. Action: Apply learning to expand and improve programs in your community and offer hope that recovery is possible. B. Reaching Our Youth - Utilizing Health Curriculum for Methamphetamine Prevention Darcy Jensen, Founder and Executive Director, Prairie View Prevention Services, Inc. Description: This presentation will provide participants with a sample PowerPoint that can be used within a school s health curriculum and will include a lesson plan and follow up activities for educators and students to utilize for methamphetamine prevention. The workshop will address safety concerns related to methamphetamine use and tips to reach teens using methamphetamine prevention education. Action: Create an educational prevention lesson on the dangers of methamphetamine. Share lessons learned in providing methamphetamine prevention to teens. 3

Medical Director, Northlakes Community Center Michelle Ruka, Care Coordinator, Marshfield Clinic Health System Description: Learn about the assessment and management of methamphetamine addiction and the background and development of the Matrix Model. This workshop will also provide evidence on how the Matrix Model was utilized as a treatment modality specifically for stimulant dependence. Action: Develop an understanding of how methamphetamine addiction is assessed and managed and learn about the evidence-based Matrix Model. D. Methamphetamine Crime Officer TJ Bill, Lac du Flambeau Tribal Police Department Description: Learn how methamphetamine is sold, traded and transported. Understand the impact of gangs in northern Wisconsin. Action: Educate your community on methamphetamine related crime activity and resources that can help.
