2 ABOUT THE CONFERENCE According to the United States Surgeon General, more than 14 million children and adolescents (1 in 5) in this country have a mental health disorder. Young people have mental, emotional, and behavioral problems that are real, painful, and costly. These problems can be a source of stress for children and their families, schools, and communities. Behavioral health services for children, youth, young adults, and families can be challenging, complex and effective. The development of comprehensive services for children, youth, and young adults is essential for successfully managing behavioral health symptoms and for the wellbeing of individuals in the home, school, and community. Community Care s regional summer institute, Creating Hope: Developing Communities of Care for Children, Youth, Young Adults, and Families will highlight children s services. Presenters will provide information for health care clinicians, families, and communities to promote positive behavioral health and to address children s behavioral health topics. Keynote speakers will address topics such as Positive Behavior Support, a proactive process for improving social competence and academic achievement, and emerging models that connect effective learning and behavior change with system-of-care principles; developing an accountable clinical home, traumainformed care theory and applications, and co-occuring disorders in children, youth, and young adults. 6 CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDIT MENTAL HEALTH PROFESSIONALS Nurses and other health care professionals are awarded 0.45 Continuing Education Units (CEUs), which are equal to 4.5 contact hours. NATIONAL CERTIFIED COUNSELORS* WPIC is recognized by the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC) to offer continuing education for National Certified Counselors. WPIC adheres to the NBCC continuing education guidelines. This program is being offered for 4.5 continuing education credits. PSYCHOLOGISTS WPIC is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education credits for psychologists. WPIC maintains responsibility for this program and its content.
