1 CV About me After years of avidly diarising her overseas adventures, made the leap from journalist and deputy features editor with News Limited (Geelong Advertiser) to freelance travel, food and lifestyle writer, columnist, editor, reviewer, copy writer, photographer and speaker. She currently works as the contributing editor for travel, food and luxury for Whimn, News Corps women's site where she also writes opinion columns. Miranda's work regularly appears in publications such as National Geographic Travel magazine, Australian Traveller Magazine, Collective Hub, Daily Life, Time Out magazine, Nourish magazine, Australian Natural Health magazine, The Age, The Sunday Age, The Daily Telegraph, The Herald Sun, AWOL (Qantas' youth travel website) and Music Australia Guide (MAG). She has penned stories about Albania, Austin, Istanbul, Sri Lanka, Serbia, and many places in between. She has interviewed world-famous musicians, sports stars, CEOs, comedians, Australia's best chefs, an Archibald Prize finalist, a head designer for Google, and a mountain climber. She has reviewed shows at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, music gigs and new albums releases, and restaurants. She is a passionate amateur photographer and has taken the photos for many of her stories. As well as writing, Miranda has been the acting editor of the Geelong Advertiser's weekend lifestyle and home magazines and deputy editor of the paper's Bride, Food & Wine and Our Place magazines. She oversaw everything from layout and design to sourcing images and copy editing to online content and social media for the magazines. On top of this, she worked with the commercial productions team to produce advertising features for the newspaper, including editing a 32-page 'Money' lift-out and a 28-page 'Sustainability' lift-out, and regularly wrote business profiles for local businesses. She worked with a small team involved

2 in putting together numerous events for our lifestyle magazines and products including launches and charity days, working across all areas from budgeting to marketing. She liaised with contributors and discovered new writers as well as running weekly competitions for readers through and social media. Miranda also writes fiction. She recently won the Bedford International Short Story Competition, was shortlisted for the Commonwealth Short Story Prize, the Sean O'Faolain Prize at the Cork International Short Story Festival, and the New Millennium Writings fiction competition, longlisted for the Bath International Short Story Award, and placed second in the Daily Telegraph's Summer Short Story Competition. Her work has also appeared in Southword Journal (Munster Literature Centre), ilcrow & Dagger Literary Journal, Foliate Oak Literary Magazine and Bitterzoet Literary Magazine and one of her short stories has been recorded as a podcast. She is extremely passionate about the Australian literary community, publishing industry and our vibrant YA community. She has a Masters in Media Practice, a Degree in Media and Communications and a Diploma in Journalism. She also has a passion for animals and is currently completing a Certificate II in Animal Studies as well as volunteering at Edgar's Mission Farm Animal Sanctuary. Miranda is available for school speaking opportunities. She recently spoke to 170 grade five and six students about non-fiction writing as part of Bannockburn Primary's Be Inspired program. Miranda has travelled to more than 50 countries but when she's in Australia she lives on the Surf Coast, Victoria, where she attempts to surf. You may remember her from game shows such as Deal or No Deal and Family Feud. Experience Contributing editor of travel, food and luxury for Whimn.com April 2017 Present I regularly write travel, food and luxury-related stories as well as advertising features, columns and opinion pieces for News Corp s new women s website Whimn.com

3 Freelance lifestyle, travel and fiction writer March 2014 Present I write feature articles for publications such as Australian Traveller Magazine, Daily Life, Time Out, National Geographic Travel magazine, Broadsheet, Renegade Collective, Music Australia Guide, Sydney Morning Herald, Nourish magazine, Australian Natural Health magazine, Flight Centre magazine, AWOL (Qantas' youth travel website) and Get Up & Go magazine. In regards to fiction, I was recently shortlisted for the Commonwealth Short Story Prize, the Sean O'Faolain Prize at the Cork International Short Story Festival, the New Millennium Writings fiction competition and placed second in the Daily Telegraph's Summer Short Story Competition. My work has also appeared in Southword Journal (Munster Literature Centre), Bitterzoet Literary Magazine, ilcrow & Dagger Literary Journal, and Foliate Oak Literary Magazine. I am currently working on my first novel. I also take part in school programs, helping to encourage students to write. While with News Limited I held a workshop for students interested in a career in journalism and I recently spoke to 170 grade 5 and 6 kids about non-fiction writing as part of Bannockburn Primary s Be Inspired program. Feature writer, news journalist and deputy features editor with News Limited March 2011 March 2014 At the Geelong Advertiser I was a feature writer, news journalist and deputy editor of the features department producing two weekend lifestyle magazines and multiple bi-annual and annual publications. This position included the role of acting editor for our weekend magazine when my editor was on leave, which involved proof reading a 64-page magazine on a tight deadline in a highpressure environment. I was also deputy editor of the paper s Bride, Food & Wine and Our Place Magazines.

4 I wrote about a range of topics such as lifestyle, arts, travel, food, wine, celebrity, culture, health, beauty, education, home, music, business and fashion and I produced opinion pieces and columns. I also wrote many advertising features for local and national businesses, which involved a high level of accuracy as well as a thorough understanding of a variety of briefs and style guidelines. I worked closely with the features editor within a small team, breaking news, writing content, sourcing pictures, designing layouts and subbing copy, to see each publication through from concept to production. I also worked to utilise this content in an online environment through the paper's website and social media channels. I ran the social media platform for our features department as well as the features section of the Geelong Advertiser website. I have been trained in reporting, editing and proof reading through News Limited s prestigious online course, have studied shorthand at Swinburne University and have worked in many publishing platforms. I also worked with a small team involved in putting together numerous events for our lifestyle magazines and products including launches and charity days, working across all areas from budgeting to marketing. I liaised with our contributors and discovered new writers as well as running weekly competitions for readers through and social media. Internships at The Age (Fairfax) and The North Shore Times (News Limited) June 2010 March 2011 At The Age I reported to Nick Miller, State News Editor, who said: Miranda worked as an intern on The Age news floor and in that time proved invaluable. She was eager for work, diligent in her interviews and wrote competent and accurate copy. At the North Shore Times I reported to Catherine Zuill, Editor, who said: While working at the North Shore Times Miranda proved to be extremely proficient. She showed great initiative and wrote good news and feature stories for the paper. She would be an asset to any news room.
