1 Birthdays & Hire Dates CARE Counts Classifieds EAPworks Health Beat Menus Phone Book A Conversation With Senator Bill Dotzler Q: If I use biometric information through my personal physician, how do I complete the nicotine portion of the requirement? A: You must have blood drawn in the Allen Lab for nicotine testing. We cannot accept nicotine screening from other sources. Jim Waterbury, Marketing and Communications Q: When will biometric and lab screening results be posted to On Point for Health? A: Limeade should have data online by October 31. We will let you know when it s posted. Steve Sesterhenn, HR Q: Will there be forums to discuss changes to the health care plan and its requirements as there have been in the past? Where can we access benefits summaries to help choose the Allen plan or a Marketplace plan instead? A: Open Enrollment meetings will explain changes in benefits and pricing the last week of October through the first week of November at Allen Hospital, UMP and Allen College. Dates and times will be posted. Employee benefits will be posted on the HR tab on the intranet. Steve Sesterhenn, HR AUDIENCE: Healthcare providers PRESENTER: Senator Bill Dotzler Thursday, September 18 6:30-7:30 p.m. McBride Auditorium Allen College PURPOSE: To increase knowledge on current healthcare legislation and the impact that it has on future healthcare. OBJECTIVES: Upon completion of this program participants should be able to: 1. Identify current legislation that impacts healthcare trends in Iowa. 2. Describe the impact of healthcare reform on Iowa consumers and Healthcare Professionals. 3. Discuss the importance of the Medicaid expansion in Iowa. 4. Identify initiatives that would ensure direct payments to qualified health providers. CEU s: Approved for 0.12 CEU through Allen College, Iowa Board of Nursing provider #127. Participants must attend the entire session to receive credit. FEE: No charge to Allen Associate and $10.00 charge for Non-Allen Associates. Make payment to Allen College. REGISTRATION: Allen Associates - register in NetLearning Non-Allen Associates please contact Larry Clark or Jean Firman AORN business meeting will follow in the MidAmerican Energy Classroom.
2 Q: If it is an expectation of Allen to have a BMI less than 35 for Insurance reimbursement, would Allen reconsider opening a wellness center? Employees would then have an opportunity to use their lunch hour to become active. Reimbursement for outside facilities is OK but if you re not a member of the Blue Zones you will not be reimbursed, and many people have other obligations before and after work. A: You must have a BMI of less than 35 or lose at least five percent of your screening weight in 2015 to qualify for reduced insurance premiums. Our strategy as a healthcare system is to use our time and money to provide great patient care. There are 20-plus gyms in Black Hawk County and dozens more throughout the Cedar Valley. We don t want to duplicate their services. We do encourage you to use them and claim your partial reimbursement. Jim Waterbury, Marketing and Communications Q: The online lunch order form does not seem to be working anymore. Can this be fixed? A: Thanks for signaling us. The order form is working again on the intranet home page from the menu, from Tools & Resources, or from the front page of Friday Edition. Jim Waterbury, Marketing and Communications Q: I signed up for Follow My Health to use My Chart. Allen hospital, clinics and physicians are not coming up as connections to add. Is that still a work in progress. A: Yes. UnityPoint Clinic Waterloo will convert to My Chart in Q For now, Allen patients and associates have inpatient and hospital outpatient portal access through My Chart. Our clinical data must be accessed through Follow My Health until we convert. Joe Smith, UnityPoint Health Des Moines This is your opportunity to meet over lunch with Pam Delagardelle to talk about what s happening at UnityPoint Health in general and Allen in particular. Luncheons are open to all Allen associates. Each luncheon is small only 12 people so everyone will have a chance to talk. The setting is relaxed, the food will be great and we ll pick up the tab. 3 Welcome New Allen Team Members Front (l to r): Dawn Barnes, Materials Management; Collette Turner-Bagsby, Environmental Svcs; Rae Gallmeyer RN, Resource; Sue Burnett RN, NICU/OB; Jeni Lynch, 4 Medical; Heather Praska, Resource Back (l to r): Nicole Henniger RN, 3 Heart; Jenny Woodring RN, 3 Heart; Ben Rettinger, MHU; Rodney Hart, Laundry; Gwen Buss RN, DaVita; Chelia Briner, Resource Not pictured: Angel Burt, Central Monitoring Know Your Numbers Tips If you haven t completed your biometric testing and blood draw to qualify for reduced insurance premiums in 2015, here are more tips to make it easy for you to do so: Don t wait until the last minute. We anticipate long lines close to deadline. If you are a current employee and are going to enroll in health benefits this fall, you need to take your Biometric test between now and October 11. If you are newly-enrolling your spouse in the Health Insurance Plan this year, you will not be able to enroll them until you enroll and are approved. Then you can enroll your spouse. The spouse that you are adding should take their biometric screening now in preparation for that enrollment. Check the Morning Report for schedules for today and the week ahead. See Friday Edition for the full schedule. Remember that we do both biometrics and blood draws every day we have testing. You need only one needle stick for your blood draw and nicotine test. That s why we urge you to get them done at the same time. Remember to fast 12 hours before your needle stick, or you ll get inaccurate results. Morning meds with a sip of water are OK prior to your needle stick. See next page for full schedule! Bring your voucher to the Allen Lab only from 7:00 a.m. Noon on testing days. Please do not come to the Lab asking for an insurance-related blood draw outside those hours.
4 Get Your Numbers Update Biometric testing, blood draws and nicotine screenings are all working well. Here are several updates to help make the process even easier: All tests will be offered on all dates listed on the updated chart Allen Hospital tests will be offered 7 a.m. 12 p.m. Biometric testing (height, weight, blood pressure) will be in the Allen Hospital Entrance 1 meeting room Blood draws and nicotine screening will be done in the Allen Hospital Lab United Medical Park tests will be offered: Tuesday, October 7 and Thursday, October 9 12:00 2:00 p.m. Suite 103 A Flu shots will be given at UMP at these two times The Allen Lab asks all participants to fast for 12 hours prior to blood draws. If you do not fast, your results may show elevated glucose or lipids, which would qualify you for coaching you otherwise might not need. Morning medications with water are fine prior to your blood draw. ALLEN HOSPITAL 7:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Biometric Screenings: Entrance 1 Meeting Room Blood Draws & Nicotine Tests: Allen Lab Friday, September 12 Monday, September 15 Tuesday, September 16 Wednesday, September 17 Friday, September 19 Saturday, September 20 Monday, September 22 Tuesday, September 23 Wednesday, September 24 Thursday, September 25 Friday, September 26 Monday, September 29 Tuesday, September 30 Wednesday, October 1 Thursday, October 2 Friday, October 3 Saturday, October 4 Saturday, October 11 UNITED MEDICAL PARK 12:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. Biometric Screenings: Room 103A Blood Draws & Nicotine Tests: UMP Lab Flu shots will also be given. Tuesday, October 7 Thursday, October 9
5 UPDATED September 29 through October 9 The flu season starts soon. We must take proper precautions now to prevent the spread of the virus to our patients, colleagues and families. It s a requirement for being part of our organization, and it s the right thing to do. In order to ensure the health and safety of UnityPoint Health Waterloo and safeguard our patients, every Allen associate, volunteer, student and contractor must be vaccinated for influenza or present a signed physician s waiver by November 7, If an Allen associate fails to receive an influenza immunization within one week following the designated date, they will receive a written discipline that will become part of their employee record. If the associate fails to receive the requested immunization within two weeks following the designated date, termination may occur. Vaccination is free to associates, volunteers, contract employees, and students only during the flu shot clinics. Once clinics end, you will be responsible for the cost out-of-pocket. During clinic dates, vaccination is available only in the flu shot clinic, not in Occupational Health. Participation in the program includes: Receiving a flu vaccination at no cost at these sites: ALLEN HOSPITAL September 29 October 9 7:00 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 5:00 p.m. 3 South Family Lounge/Sunroom at end of hall UNITED MEDICAL PARK October 7 and 9 12:00 2:00 p.m. Suite 103A Biometric screenings will be offered at these times at UMP Providing proof of immunization to Allen Employee Health if you receive a vaccination from any other provider or pharmacy. You must pay for any other vaccination. Proof of immunization includes a signed physician s note, immunization record or a copy of a medical record. Providing proper documentation to Allen Employee Health if you have a medical exception or religious reasons preventing you from receiving the flu vaccine forms are available at Allen Employee Health. You must file a new waiver this year if you are not being vaccinated. The 2014 deadline is Friday, November 7. Individuals who have not been vaccinated may be required to wear masks during working hours, depending on the prevalence and severity of influenza in our area this flu season. That requirement will be announced if it is necessary by Dr. Tim Horrigan, our chief medical officer.
