Philosophy Statement "The philosophy of the Minnesota Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (MRID) is that excellence in the delivery of interpretation/transliteration services among people who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing, and People who are Hearing will ensure effective communication. As the professional association for interpreters and transliterators, the MRID serves as an essential arena for its members in their pursuits of excellence." Mission Statement "It is the mission of the Minnesota Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (MRID) to provide state and local forums and an organizational structure for the continued growth and development of the professions of interpretation and transliteration of American Sign Language and English." Social Media Old business (Information) Transition Team The Transition Team has not yet met, as Vice President Bolduc is waiting for responses from two of the individuals who applied. If there is no reply in a week, the assumption is they have dropped out. The hope is that the Transition Team will operate under a different model than has been used in the past in order to better assist the organization in its goal of relevancy. New business (Information) Welcome/Updates Central Representative Slater received a passing score on his CDI Certification test. Congratulations! There is a total of 9 CDIs in Minnesota. Deaf awareness booth April 23, :00-16:00 (4:00pm) MRID should have a booth to show support for this event. The cost is eighty dollars, however, it is an important event and the organization has never obtained a booth. Several board members are willing to assist in preparation for the event, as well as manning the booth during the event. The banner should be obtained from the storage, as well as an inventory done on what is in the storage unit. MOTION: Move that MRID registers for a booth at Deaf Awareness Day and provides candy or treats to hand out. (Slater/Gleason) CARRIED Spring Event As of now there are 68 paid registrations, with a total attendance of 100 people. Lunch will be catered, breakfast and snacks will be brought in. There are volunteers to help and the board will help anywhere needed throughout the conference. If someone is unable to attend the business meeting in the spring or fall, a vlog with a report should be made for people who are attending wanting to know the status of the organization. 12 March 2016 MRID Board Meeting 2

3 Ethics Council Report/Ideas Previously, MRID did host a grievance committee comprised of one Deaf and two hearing individuals. Currently, there are no guidelines set for state Affiliate Chapters from RID for grievance committees. The idea of this committee is still young. There is a need to contact other states and inquire about their systems, if they have them. Action item 16:03:01: President Ellis to contact Region III Representative Maloney. CDI Implementation/Action Plan CDIs are becoming more prevalent within the community. We would like to encourage CDIs/DIs to become members of MRID and work towards having a better relationship with them. This is something that could be potentially given to the Transition Team. Goals have also been set to establish more CEU opportunities and workshops for CDIs at our Spring and Fall events. Social Media Overall, MRID has a low presence on social media as of right now. For those board members with social media accounts, an increase of activity related to MRID has been set as a goal. Membership Through the booth at Deaf Awareness Day, members will be able to renew memberships or learn how if they do not understand the process on the website. 3months + one year if sign up at an event join or renew get put in for a drawing ACTION: Membership committee paper instead of only Action item 16:03:02: President Ellis to write a rough draft of Why Join MRID? Monthly Presidential Update The Presidential Update will be circulated through the board members and other members within the organization in order to highlight the fact that the organization is not about individuals, but the membership as a whole. The goal is to keep them short, simple and under 5 minutes. The movie will have a transcript instead of closed captions for accessibility. It will be posted on Vimeo, Youtube and other public forums, in order to be accessible by the public. The goal is to post monthly or bi-weekly. Action item 16:03:04: Bolduc to board with a sign up for video messages. Board sign up as soon as possible. CMP Ideas/ Metro Rep Recruitment for Professional Development Chair, Metro Representative and Fundraising Chair has begun. Personal contact is the best avenue for these positions, which will hopefully be filled immediately. Action item 16:03:05: President Ellis and Vice President Bolduc will work together to contact and work on issue. Board reports The board submitted updates about their activities since the 30 January 2016 board meeting. Northern Representative January/ February 2016 Since our last board meeting I: Signed Northern representative executive board contract for two year term Evaluated past documents in northern representative Google docs Cleaned out and organized documents in Northern representative Google drive Contacted and interpreter/presenter about potential Chalk Talk in Duluth, MN o Location o Accessibility o Month of Presentation o Topic: Electronics and Interpreting o Set up of event o Cost?
