1 PRELIMINARY Event program AOCMF Masters Course Orthognathic Surgery, Challenges and Controversies December 10 13, 2017, Davos, Switzerland
2 Goal of the course This AOCMF Masters Course focuses on state-of-the-art techniques and best practices at a master s level. Emerging technologies will be introduced and clinical controversies will be addressed. Target participants This course is for certified surgeons with 5 10 years experience and doctors nearing the end of their training in surgery across the craniomaxillofacial specialties (including oral and maxillofacial surger y, ENT, head and neck, plastic, oculoplastics, ophthalmology, and neuro and general surgery). It is targeted at participants who want to improve their knowledge or specialization in the management of complex patient problems in the field of CMF. Learning objectives Upon completion of the course, the participant will be able to: Discuss the latest advances and controversies in orthodontic treatment Discuss how to improve esthetics with genioplasty and chin wing procedures, simultaneous rhinoplasty, and adjunctive soft-tissue procedures Evaluate computerized vs articulated planning and prediction Discuss sequencing for bimaxillar y surger y, splintless surger y, distraction osteogenesis (DO) vs osteotomies, and overcorrection to prevent relapse Develop a plan to deal with complications and relapse Address and solve specific problems such as anterior open bite, idiopathic condylar resorption, alterations of the occlusal plane, and arch width discrepancies Perform chin wing and Le Fort I III osteotomies and and bilateral sagittal split osteotomy (BSSO), type Obwegeser Course description This three-day course focuses on state-of-the-art techniques and best practices at a master's level in orthognathic surgery. Emerging technologies and clinical controversies in orthognathics are addressed. Using human anatomical specimens, surgical access techniques are developed and chin wing, Le Fort I-III, and BSSO type Obwegeser osteotomies are performed. Patient cases and outcomes are addressed with expert faculty in small group discussions. This course is delivered using a combination of small group discussions, cases, exercises with human anatomical specimens or other simulation materials, and summary lectures. All activities are moderated by expert faculty in a highly interactive learning environment. Participants are encouraged to discuss the cases and content in an open manner and to share their own experiences.
