Ferretti Final discussion about the topics of the day End of the course Abstract In the light of the most modern dental knowledge, today we can surely state that the occlusal stability of the patient is the most precious good that the dentist must preserve or, in case of pathologies, recover. All restorative and prosthetic rehabilitations should consider the occlusal, gnathological and postural problems of the patient. The mandibular position and the occlusion play a fundamental role in maintaining the musculoskeletal and postural balance of our organism. If we alter this balance, some articular or muscular problems may arise even in areas that are very far from the mouth, often with serious sympthoms. Nowadays, unlike a few years ago, the dentist has new diagnostic means and many new restorative and prosthetic materials available to prevent and/or treat these pathologies. All this new materials generally have very high aesthetic qualities, so the choice must be based on their mechanical-physical properties. Today the dentist has the possibility to choose from time to time, aesthetic properties being equal, the most suitable material according to the specific clinical situation and to the occlusion of the patient. The goals of the course are various: to provide the clinician with a step-by-step method of occlusal and postural diagnosis, exploiting the most modern instrumental exams; to show how to organize a correct treatment plan, considering the occlusion of the patient; to give some parameters to choose the materials and the restorative and prosthetic techniques according to the mechanical-physical properties that adapts better to the occlusion of the patient; to explain how to maintain in the course of time the achieved results.

3 Lecturer s Curriculum vitae Dr. Lorenzo Vanini Graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Pavia in 1980, and has spent the last thirty years working as a specialist in aesthetic dentistry, with a particular interest in the conservative restoration of the anterior teeth and in research related to the composite dental materials. He conceived a new method for the determination of colour in dentistry and a particular technique of anatomical stratification of the composite materials, widely appreciated in the international field today and adopted as a teaching method by numerous Universities in Europe and the United States. At the same time, he has worked, in collaboration with German firms, in the research of innovative dental materials. He was a teacher and instructor in the department of Conservative Dentistry at the School of Dentistry of the San Paolo Institute, University of Milan, during the years He is an active member of the Italian Society of Conservative Dentistry, of the Italian Academy of Conservative Dentistry and of the American Society for Dental Aesthetics. He holds private courses in his Course Center and with international renewed Universities. He is Visiting Professor of Restorative Dentistry at the University of Chieti, Italy, Visiting Professor at the University De La Mediterranee of Marseille, France and Visiting Professor at the UIC of Barcellona, Spain. He collaborated to the development of the project Enamel Plus HRi, the composite with the same refractive index of natural tooth enamel. He is the author of numerous publications and of the book Conservative Restoration of Anterior Teeth with Francesco Mangani and Olga Klimovskaia. Dr. Fabio Ferretti He graduated in Medicine and Surgery, specialization in Odontostomatology with thesis on Orthodontic Cephalometry: a new approach with digital radiology. He perfected in Orthognatodontics. Specialization in Radiology 1987 with thesis on Diagnostics by images of the temporomandibular articulation. He perfected in Dental and Maxillofacial Radiology. He works as a radiologist at the ASL 6 Area Livornese, in particular for Dental and Maxillofacial Radiology. He s a consultant at IcalMed Dental Radiology Centre in San Miniato (PI). He practices as a dentist in his own studio in Livorno. He is the author of numerous scientific publications about Dental Radiology. He s a lecturer in various conferences and refresher courses about dental radiology, orthodontics and temporomandibular articulation.
