2 Welcome Primary cutaneous lymphoma research lies at the interface between a number of clinical and basic science specialities, representing a major confluence of immunology, molecular biology, pathology and dermatology. In 1969, lymphoproliferative disorders were mostly encapsulated within the term «Reticulosis». Today, by contrast, we routinely distinguish between primary cutaneous B-cell, T-cell and CD4+ CD56+ hematodermic neoplasias. The tremendous increase in knowledge behind these advances was substantially catalysed by Prof. Günter Burg, who will leave his position as chairman of the department of Dermatology in Zurich soon. Therefore, we take this opportunity to summarise important topics in the field of cutaneous lymphomas. Each of our presenters is both a recognized expert in his field and a good friend of Prof. Burg. We appreciate the audience s interest in cutaneous lymphomas and we are certain that the challenging presentations will stimulate further research in the field, and drive accelerated development towards improved targeted therapeutic interventions.
