The world is a more creatively inspired, tolerant, inclusively cooperative, consciously healthy, friendly place because of people s participation in the activity and sport of rope skipping. - The FISAC-IRSF Board s vision for rope skipping
President s Message August 3, 2012 Dear FISAC-IRSF Members, It has been a great please to be part of the FISAC-IRSF Board of Directors for the past 12 months. The board has grown and developed, and will continue to grow and develop for years to come. After the 2011 Annual General Meeting the board started to identify priorities for FISAC-IRSF for the future. It s an ambitious list of things to do, and have gotten off to a great start. It s no easy task to hold the World Championships, and this year would have been impossible without the support of this year s amazing hosts: USA Jump Rope s Executive Director Marian Fletcher and Operations Manager John Fletcher, along with their Board of Directors and amazing staff. Without the dedication and precision of Richard Stannard, Senior Vice President, Kata Sasvari, Treasurer and Pieter Himpe, Rules Chair the competition side of the event would have looked very different. Also a special thanks to Sandile Percival and Shannon Fox for organizing the first International Rope Skipping Conference! I look forward to working with the country members to continue to grow the sport of rope skipping in new countries, and seeing stronger bonds develop between our current athletes. Sincerely, Billy Smale FISAC-IRSF President

Africa African Rope Skipping Federation In Africa in 2011/12, many activities took place in within the world of rope skipping,. There are new countries that started rope skipping activities and existing ones that have improved their standards with South Africa leading the way. Ethiopia was identified by the Jump for Life Organization from Belgium as an area for development. Working with the South Africa and a delegate from Belgium, ambassadors went to Ethiopia early 2011 to introduce the sport of rope skipping. It was welcomed by the Ethiopian Gymnastics Federations as it was rolled out under their programming. In July 2011, South Africa and the Jump for Life organization sent one coach from South Africa to run coaching clinics in Ethiopia. It was a great success and lead to another visit in February 2012 with Belgian and South African delegates to run a Level 2 Coaching Course and to follow up on the progress that had taken place there. During the last visit in 2012, many coaches from 2011 returned and new coaches participated in the Level 1 course. Ethiopia is just one of my success stories that have been taking place in Africa. We also had Swaziland take up the initiative and start the sport within their country. Coaches were trained to go around to the villages teaching rope skipping to get the kids active and involved in the sport. Mozambique has also become involved and have improved a short period of time and participated in the French IDDC in Paris in Progress has also been taking place in Western Africa at the grassroots level with the help of the FFDD. Countries such as Burkina, Ivory coast, Nigeria, Senegal also got the ropes turning and the kids jumping. This success can be attributed to different organization coming together to get the sport going and growing. In Eastern Africa, Kenya and Tanzania have been involved for more than 3 years. They have been assited by One Rope One World and SAGF organizations. They have sent athletes and coaches to events in the USA and have organized the 1st and 2nd East African Rope Skipping Competition in Mombasa. With the growth that has occurred, there has also been struggles, including the development of national rope skipping organizations that can take care of rope skipping within these countries. In 2011, Mozambique joined South Africa as a member of FISAC-IRSF, which was a great step forward. There are also have countries that have interest to start rope skipping like Uganda, Zimbabwe and Botswana. Communication is at very early stage with them yet we are hopeful that next year they will get programs started.
South Africa South Africa Rope Skipping South Africa currently has 312 registered members for As our new financial year only began on 1 April 2012, we are sure to increase these numbers over the course of the year. We held a total of 10 events held over the period 1 April March, An event highlight was our National Gym Games which were held in Cape Town in October The rope skipping part of the competition was held over 4 days and brought together jumpers from all parts of the country. Rope Skipping had a National Training course where 11 people were trained as the Rope Skipping Judges Course facilitators. The aim was to capacitate every province to do their own judging workshops. Amongst the 11 new judges trainers, three were from neighboring countries: two from Swaziland and one from Mozambique. Rope Skipping enjoyed two SRSA training camps at the HPC which were very beneficial to our coaches and jumpers that were involved in the program. We also had a team that participated in France (Paris) at the International Double Dutch Competition which did fairly well and placed 10 th out 17 countries there.
Asia Asian Rope Skipping Federation ARSF is currently composed of seven full member and two provisional member countries in Asia. Most communication in ARSF takes place via and important information regarding ARSF is posted on the ARSF website ( There is a Facebook page as well. Each month a report on rope skipping activities from each ARSF member organization is submitted and formed into one ARSF report which is sent to each country representative to share with their country. This report is also submitted to FISAC-IRSF. After hosting the successful 6 th Asian Rope Skipping Championships (6AC) in July 2011, this has been a quiet year for ARSF. More organizations qualified for full membership this year, and the interest in Asia to spread rope skipping is still increasing. Election of a new ARSF board took place recently, and the new directors will take office in August. They will be responsible for determining the bidding process for the 7 th Asian Rope Skipping Championships (7AC) (tentatively scheduled for late July 2013), and formulating the Rule Book for the event. ARSF works to overcome such challenges as language barriers, multiple organization issues, and a lack of understanding of rules and judging systems to create a more unified ARSF.
China China China currently has 10 member clubs. We have attended and run 10 events, including 6 national events and 2 international events this year: Oct th Asian Championships Trials (Luoyang, Henan) Aug China Rope Skipping Open (Shuangliu, Sichuan) Oct th Heluo Rope Skipping Fest (Luoyang, Henan) Dec China Rope Skipping Classics (Weifang, Shandong) May 2012 China Rope Skipping Classics (Qingdao, Shandong) June 2012 China Rope Skipping Camp (Shanghai) July 2012 China Rope Skipping Open (Liangyungang, Jiangsu) July 2012 China Rope Skipping Coach Workshop (Shanghai) Highlights: More than 200 people are enrolled in the China Rope Skipping Coach Workshop that is to be held in July Key members from Hong Kong Rope Skipping Association are invited to lecture in the workshop, which is 5-days in length with 36 hours in total. After this workshop National Rope Skipping Coach Certificates will be issued. The Tack brothers from Belgium were invited to teach at the China Rope Skipping Camp this past June. Discussions with them were made regarding setting national levels. Leisure Sport Administration Center, General Administrator of Sport of China, is about to issue national standard rope skipping routines. FISAC-IRSF s guidance and support would be very much appreciated.
Hong Kong Hong Kong This year, , HKRSA has 52 members. We held 3 skills courses, 4 coaching courses and 3 judges courses. A Pre-Worlds Judging Workshop was organized in April 2012 to train a group of professional judges to assist FISAC-IRSF in organizing the World Championships HKRSA organized 3 different local competitions for athletes at different levels. Throughout the year of , HKRSA organized the Coca-Cola Foundation Rope Skipping STAR Program to promote rope skipping in primary and secondary schools in Hong Kong. 36 schools participated in the program and over 7,000 students benefited by the program. On May 1, 2012, over 100 students created a Hong Kong Record for the most people skipping rope in a figure-8 simultaneously. Also, a team of 14 Hong Kong elite athletes successfully broke the Guinness World Record of the most skips over a single rope in 3 minutes by a team. In the coming years, HKRSA plans to develop a Youth Athletes Training Scheme. It aims to enhance elite training and promote athletes to participate in the Asian Championships and World Championships. A Technical Committee will be formed to monitor the coaching system and support the youth scheme.
India India As per India has a school-going population of 200 million. Rope Skipping was introduced into the CBSE National Games ( More than 10,000 schools registered under CBSE in 21 countries. There were only 17 games recognized by CBSE and Rope Skipping is 18 th. It is really a big achievement. The Kendriya Vidyalya Sanshtan (KVS), a chain of more than 1000 schools of defense staff also introduced Rope Skipping in their schools. Vidiya Bharti ( the largest chain of private schools in India (more than 29,000 schools and 3,200,000 students) has already introduced Rope Skipping. 5 state governments were interested in hosting SGFI National Rope Skipping Tournament but finally School Games Federation of India ((SGFI) decided to split the event into 2 age categories. Both states were not ready to give up. SGFI is the largest school games organization represented by the directors of each state government. Indian Team participated in Double Dutch World Tournament in Japan and Asian Championship in S. Korea. We had organized three National Championships and one Double Dutch event in India. Now we have a huge number of schools and students so, our next step is to train good coaches so that they can produce higher-level skippers in schools.
Japan Japan There are currently 312 members in JRSF. Over the past year JRSF has been involved in approximately 17 rope skipping events: 1 instructor workshop & exam, 11 judge workshops & exams, and 5 competitions. JRSF conducted various rope skipping workshops and dispatched instructors and performers to numerous events as well. Highlights include, hosting the 7 th All Japan Rope Skipping Championships in November and assisting with the Double Dutch Contest World 2012 in March. The number of participants in each competition continues to grow each year, and the quality of the competitions enhances as well. JRSF is trying to encourage more people to take an active role in the federation. JRSF is also encouraging more people to take the judges exams and become involved in the organization of domestic and international competitions, while working to overcome the difficulty with English comprehension. JRSF is honored to be a part of FISAC-IRSF, and will continue to work hard to promote rope skipping in Japan, Asia and around the world.
Macao, China Rope Skipping General Association of Macao, China has about 100 memberships. In 2011 we had run 8 events. We regularly hold a local rope skipping competition twice a year for boosting and popularizing rope skipping exercise in Macao. School Rope skipping Promotional Program has cooperated with the government of education department. There were over 10,000 students involved. Two umpire courses and one teaching course were held. Thirty one people passed the ARSF Judge exam. We also invited the World Champions to Macao for boosting our rope skipping skills. We took part in the 6AC (6 th Asian Rope Skipping Championships) and earned 7 golden medals, 8 silver medals and 3 bronze medals. We also broke 4 records in 6AC. Macao
South Korea South Korea Currently, there are 1590 clubs and about persons throughout the KRSF. This has been another busy year for KRSF. In the Summer of 2011 the 6AC was held in Mokpo, Korea with about 400 participants from 9 countries. In October of 2011 KRSF participated in the School Sport Festival organized by the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education. On January 15, 2012 Dr. Susan Kim was inaugurated as the 11 th President of KRSF. Later this year in February 5, 2012 we held a judge certifying workshop. February 12, 2012 saw 13 th Korean National Rope Skipping Championships in which 12 teams and 130 individuals competed, and the medalists were given the opportunity to participate in the 2012 WC. The Heart Disease Prevention Rope Skipping Festival was held on April 28, 2012, which saw 1300 persons participating. The festival was co-hosted by the Korea Heart Association, and about 9000 USD was raised for a 4- month old baby boy s heart surgery. With an effort to continue to grow the sport of rope skipping in Korea, KRSF holds an instructor certifying workshop once per month. KRSF also helped to fund the publishing of a book on rope skipping.
Europe European Rope Skipping Organization Rope Skipping in Europe continues to grow and evolve. Portugal and Russia joined ERSO in 2011 and Italy became a member in We are also working to bring past members back to the ERSO family. As of July, 2012 we have 11 federation members, 1 club member, 1 individual member. We are also communicating with 5 new countries. In July, 2011 the European Team Championships and Youth Tournament was hosted by Hungary in Nagykanisza. We had 36 teams in the Championships and 38 in the Youth Tournament from 9 different countries. The level of Skipping is increasing and the intensity of the competitions is rising but the skippers still enjoy helping each other improve and reach out to help new countries. In the past year ERSO has sent ambassadors to Portugal, Italy and Russia to help develop the sport in these countries. The ambassadors have been helping with organizational development, rules, skipping skills and preparing for future competitions. Our next event will take place in the fall of 2012 when one of our new members Portugal will organize the European Masters competition.
Austria Austria Currently ÖFT (Austrian Gymnastics Federation) has 12 clubs in 5 provinces. There are 5 clubs that participate in competitions and 7 clubs who are recreation and show performances clubs. The number of practitioner is between 150 and 200. During a meeting with all interested Clubs, a technical committee was founded with 4 members, responsible for training (workshops, instructor courses), competition (rules and calculation) and judges education. Competitions: On March 17, 2012 we held the Austrian Masters as qualification for WC2012 (World Championships) and EM (European Masters),. In November there will be a national Double Dutch competition. Camp: A summer camp is announced for August 22-27, Our goal for the next years is to increase the popularity of Rope Skipping and the number of practitioners in all 9 provinces in Austria.
Belgium Belgium BRSF Vlaanderen, (Belgian national federation), currently has over 5000 members, including over 1000 competition skippers. Every year, we run about 20 championships. During those championships we used over 500 officially FISAC-IRSF-qualified judges. We had over 500 skippers participating at the Masters, over 200 teams participating in team championships and 35 teams in Democup. All of the freestyles (over 2000!) are judged following the FISAC -IRSF Rules. This year, we organized for the first time in our history a Recreacup, this is an event for non-competitive skippers where they try to repeat a certain skill as much as possible in 30 seconds. This event allowed over 300 non-competitive skippers to participate in a rope skipping event. Next to that, we also organized our first Double Dutch Experience, with teams progressing via battles. This was a big success with over 100 participating teams. Our goal for next year is to continue with our current work with only volunteers and to bring stability by organizing the same events as this year.
Denmark Denmark There are approximately 1000 skippers in Denmark. New skippers come into the organization every year, and we continue to develop new associations. In Denmark we have held 2 masters competitions, 4 team competitions and many workshops to promote the sport. There have also been several courses for judging and coaching. The number of participants in Danish novice categories is currently increasing. International competitor numbers are seeing a minor setback but this hasn t affected the quality of the skipping. One of the Danish female teams proved this at the European Championships in Hungary 2011 where they won the overall gold medal in their category. We re very excited about Sundhedsstyrelsens (The Health Agency s) campaign "Get Moving" which is about getting Danish kids to increase their levels of physical activity and rope skipping was chosen as an opportunity for this. It is being promoted through commercials on different TV channels and posters all around the cities.
Germany Germany Rope Skipping in Germany is organized within the German Gymnastics Federation (DTB). Head of the rope skipping board is Signe Richter. In the last fiscal year jumpers from about 55 clubs all over Germany attended at three different rope skipping events (Nationals Team, Nationals Masters and Bundesfinale). The total number of clubs offering rope skipping in Germany and attending at championships is constantly growing. The top event highlight organized by the German Gymnastics Federation is the Nationals. Each year the number and level of competitors (team and masters) is increasing. Camps, workshops and many shows helped to develop the sport in Germany. One highlight was the TV appearance of one Athlete having a competition against former boxing World Champion Henry Maske!
Hungary Hungary Hungary currently has 200 competitors in 14 clubs. There were 5 main competitions in 2012 including the World Championship. The competition year will begin again in November. These 5 competitions include the student Olympics which we were allowed to organize again this year. Two of the competitions were team championship and two others were single rope championships. We also have coaches training and judges course every year. This year s event was very successful with over 50 coaches taking part in all different levels. Also we have new teachers wanting to join and teach rope skipping. We are trying to spread the sport in all parts of the country so we are trying to do as many demonstrations as possible. Next year we are planning to add a new event to the schedule, which would be a TOP competition, organized for the best under and over 15, and also we would want to do a demo cup on the same event to attract some publicity to our sport in Hungary.
Sweden Sweden Rope skipping in Sweden is under the umbrella of the Swedish Gymnastic Federation. Many athletes are skipping all over the country in schools and clubs as a part of General Gymnastics. About 15 clubs offer competition in their programs. The Ropeskipping Committee arranges youth competitions, Swedish Championships, education and camps. The number of teams is slowly growing, especially in youth competitions on basic levels. The greatest success this year was IDDC (International Double Dutch Championships) in Paris with gold medals for the junior girls and brons medals for the senior open. Kämpinge GF was invited to represent Sweden in the FIG gala on the World Gymnaestrada in Lausanne More than 20,000 spectators in five FIG performances got the possibility to feel the strength and the creativity of the Swedish skippers. That was a great success! The goal for the future is to get more gymnastic clubs involved in ropeskipping.
Switzerland Switzerland Switzerland has about 100 people with a competition license. This fiscal year Switzerland held qualification competitions for Swiss Championships (November 2011) and Swiss Championships (June 2012). The Swiss Championships Competition had about 100 participants. The Swiss Rope Skipping Camp in October, 2012 had about 50 participants. Switzerland will send teams for the World Championships 2012 and the European Championships in Portugal.
United Kingdom United Kingdom The BRSA has 8 active clubs as members who compete in competitions, and individual memberships makes up approximately 30% of our overall membership. We hold 3 National competitions per year: Speed, Team and Masters. They all include a Novice section for first time competitors, plus training days. All of our competitions are open to European and International competitors. We will also be continuing our coaching courses. The BRSA have been in partnership since 2011 with Youth Sport Trust and Matalan developing and delivering a programme to introduce jump rope across primary and secondary schools in the UK. We do numerous TV/media promotions to highlight our sport, and interact with other countries when requested. The highest achievement for the BRSA this year will be presenting an international jump rope team Get Tricky including 4 of our top UK skippers, to perform at the London 2012 Olympics for the duration of the event (2 weeks). We are hoping to raise everyone s awareness of jump rope across the board. To audiences who will never have experienced jump rope before.
Pan-America Pan-America Rope Skipping Organization PARSO is pleased to announce a new competition team to the FISAC -IRSF World Championships. Trinidad and Tobago will be competing in Tampa, Florida for their first World Championships. We look forward to their success and continued support. Unfortunately for PARSO, due to registration deadlines, Puerto Rico was unable to register for the tournament. The team received a generous donation to help them get to Tampa. The donation unfortunately came in too late to allow registration for this team. Team Puerto Rico was given the opportunity to come to the championships as a demonstration team. The 2011 Pan Am competition was cancelled due to low registrations. The event was to be held in Canada. The 2013 competition is scheduled to take place in the United States. We look forward to confirming a site for this competition soon that will be shared with the world.
Canada Canada The past 2 years have been exciting in Canada! Our 2011 National Championships were held in beautiful Calgary, Alberta and in 2012 athletes traveled to picturesque Moncton, New Brunswick, where organizers launched a three-day competition format. This competition also marked the first live streaming sponsored by Bell Aliant. Encouraged with the statistics we ll endeavor to continue this excellent promotion. After seeing the excitement generated at the 2010 England World Championships, several of our provinces invested in the new speed scoring system with electronic clickers. They have been used at provincial and national tournaments creating outstanding audience participation. Our Coaching Task Force has been working intensely on the CanSkip program, due for release in September, They are also modeling a sport specific Long Term Athlete Development Strategy for jump rope aligning us with Canadian Sport for Life. Our athletes have been training hard for the FISAC World Championships and our Team Canada staff has been preparing for this exciting event. Sarah Dobrowolski is the head coach and Tim Segato is the team manager for Team Canada. We extend best wishes to all athletes attending the 2012 World Championships and our gratitude to organizers for what is sure to be a memorable, outstanding event.
USA USA Jump Rope currently has 3111 members, governed by a 12 person volunteer Board of Directors, managed by 4 permanent professional staff consisting of an executive director, operations manager and two staff associates Events: 2 All-Star Workshops, U.S. Trials World Qualifying Tournament, 13 Regional Qualifying Tournaments, U.S. National Jump Rope Championship and Gold Rush Classic Jump Rope Tournament where many records were set, 2 Jump Rope Summer Camps, host of the 2012 FISAC-IRSF World Rope Skipping Championships. Susanna Lacy, jump rope member appeared n Nickelodeon s Figure it Out game show and won the grand prize. Implemented a new Judge s Train the Trainers course with new training videos. United States
Oceania Oceania This year Skipping Oceania has become an incorporated association for the first time. Currently Australia is the only member country, however we are working towards developing the sport in other countries. New Zealand is the main focus for development at this time as it is the second largest country in the Oceania region. A small group of skippers have been established and we are currently working with them to develop the team and grow their numbers.
Australia Australia For 2012 Australia has had three main competitions. These will be two state championships and also the National Championships held in June. Once again Singapore attended our National Championships for the 4 th year running. We have approx 300 members similar to We have members in two states and two territories but struggle to grow outside of these areas due to the costs and time associated with setting up new organizations in other states. We have increased the number of clubs attending competitions but once again these have come from the two strong states that are well established. At our AGM, we set up a committee that will concentrate on development outside of our established areas and this will be a focus for the last part of 2012 We have had skippers involved on Australia s got Talent as well as performances at National Netball games, several community shows and several Television appearances. We have sent our largest ever contingent of skippers to both the Junior Olympics and the WYT and World Championships for We have 14 teams in the WYT alone which shows that Rope Skipping in Australia is very largely supported by junior skippers with most Senior skippers not finding the time to continue amongst school/university and work commitments. Our goals for the remainder of 2012 will be to try again to reach into other states that have Heart Foundation programs but no actual competitive teams. We have no major competitions planned for the remainder of the year and so should spend this time trying to grow our sport for 2013.
