1 CADE Carolina Aerial and Dance Exchange CC&Co E Monroe Road Charlotte, NC Aerial Skills for Dancers w/ Elise Sipos Learn the essential skills to get you started from dancing on the ground to dancing in the air! 10 Dancer Skills for Circus Artists w/ Julianna Hane Want to learn secrets to longer lines and expressive upper bodies? This class will focus on tips and exercises that can help you in your performance and training. Above and Below the Bar (Trapeze) w/ Leah Leor We will be working on form and technique of trapeze skills that require hanging underneath the bar. We will explore turns, dynamic movement and creative transitions while hanging on the trapeze. Aerial Silks Rep w/ Hodgson We will be creating complex choreography and creative skills and transitions. Bring your favorite skills and we will add to it and create a performance piece by the end of the weekend! Aerial Yoga w/ Amy Tynan Aerial yoga classes take traditional yoga postures off the ground. In this taster class, we will talk about what makes an aerial yoga class aerial yoga and how it relates to the rest of the aerial world. Anatomy for Performing Artists w/ Wanda Ebright Dancers and Aerialists alike enjoy "geeking out" on anatomy and discovering the root of our movements in the ground and in the air. In addition to being interesting, some basic anatomy can help you gain awareness of potential injury prevention. 1

2 Belay On! Silks w/ Jamie Hodgson Deliberate exploration and planned creation - learn modalities for exploring the apparatuses that have not yet been fully explored. Belly dancing 101 w/ Satya (Katie Rothweiler) Foundations of Bellydance: Join Satya in this introduction and exploration of the art of bellydance. Through body and mind awareness and connections, muscle isolations and movement techniques, this workshop will guide you through a extensive and exciting blend of ancient art and modern flair. You will sweat, you will laugh and you will probably find things out about yourself that you didn't know before. All you need to bring is an open mind, a yoga mat and water. Capoeira w/ Adamma Haith An introduction to Capoeira. Capoeira is a Brazillian martial art that is based around rhythmic, dancelike movement. We will warm up with Maculele- a Brazilian stick fighting dance that involves improvisation to a rhythmic pattern created by sticks (grimas) held by the dancers. Composition Class w/ Susan Murphy Working with choreographic devices and creative exploration to develop a movement piece. Conditioning for Dancers w/ Leah Leor Conditioning and technique to improve lines, endurance, grace and range of motion. Conditioning w/ Gwynne Flanagan Work those muscles on the ground for ground and air work! We will be challenging your core, upper and lower body to help you find balance and strength in all movement! Contemporary Partnering w/ Caroline Calouche We will explore partnering skills from dance and partner acrobatics. No partner needed. Corde Lisse Rep w/ Molly Graves Essential rope or corde lisse skills for the budding rope artist! Creating on invented apparatus w/ Elise Sipos Deliberate approach to creating material from scratch on an apparatus that hasn t been fully explored. How to create the images you want and to unlock new vocabulary! Creative Fabric Transitions w/ Molly Graves So much choreography on the Fabric begins and ends with wrapping skills. We will discover ways to use wrapping in your choreography and blend one skill into the next more seamlessly. 2

3 Dance Trapeze w/ Susan Murphy This class will focus on learning aerial dance trapeze technique/moves and transitioning with grace and ease from one movement moment to another. I will teach a combination as well as giving you the opportunity to create your own "small dance". Using the language of Laban Movement Analysis, we will also find fresh true gestures and ways to partner the trapeze so that it appears we are "dancing in the air" with intention and feeling. Dig Deep: Flexibility for Hips & Legs w/ Alicia Williams (you have this!) Diving into Dives w/ Gwynne Flanagan So many aerial fabric moves incorporate a diving motion and diving choreography. We will be exploring various ways to wrap dives and how to control them as they come into and out of other movements. Fabric Theory w/ Jamie Hodgson We will start digging into the reasons behind what we do on the fabric - why certain wraps work and how to adjust them to create the skills you want. We'll learn what "rules" are really necessary and what "rules" can be broken. Finding Character in the air w/ Gwynne Flanagan Using theatrical techniques and creative drills to unleash your character or characters! Fun drills to help you explore the air in a whole new way! Floorwork w/ a Prop or Apparatus w/ Caroline Calouche Working with a prop or apparatus can be tricky (difficult or too many skills). This class will give you ideas on how to look at the prop/apparatus in a new light to move your choreography beyond the steps. Gyrokinesis w/ Alissa Getz Waller What is GYROKINESIS? The GYROKINESIS method is a movement method that gently works the entire body, opening energy pathways, stimulating the nervous system, increasing range of motion, and creating functional strength through rhythmic, flowing movement sequences. It is an original and unique movement practice which has its roots in Tai Chi, gymnastics, yoga and dance. Halo w/ Elise Sipos Elise is one of the few in the world who specialize on the aerial Halo. This endearing apparatus resembles a Lyra (aerial hoop), with a halo, a smaller horizontal hoop, attached at the base. 3

4 Hand Balancing w/ Leah Leor Work drills, strength and balance technique for sustaining various shapes in and entrances into your hand stand. Learn what it takes to train for control and strength in your inversions. Int. Hip-hop w/ AJ Glasco The method of this hip-hop class is not that of a typical class. Yes, students are taught choreography and learn hip-hop techniques, but they leave feeling empowered to try hard and go for any dream they have in life. Sometimes this class could be considered as a means of therapy and release for young adults. Inter mediate/advanced Contemporary w/ Caroline Calouche A vigorous and dynamic contemporary dance class that will incorporate floorwork and jumps. Intermediate Ballet w/ Caroline Calouche A challenging technique class based on the Vaganova syllabus. Focus on proper alignment and full expression of movement. Intermediate Hand to Hand w/ Carlos Alexis Cruz In this course we will focus primarily on more advanced hand to hand skills, mainly based on handstand shapes. Emphasis in form and endurance. Intro Contemporary Dance w/ Caroline Calouche An introduction to Contemporary Dance exploring movement in and out of the floor with full expression of the body through the space. Intro to Hip-hop w/ AJ Glasco The method of this hip-hop class is not that of a typical class. Yes, students are taught choreography and learn hip-hop techniques, but they leave feeling empowered to try hard and go for any dream they have in life. Sometimes this class could be considered as a means of therapy and release for young adults. Intro to Lyra/Aerial Hoop w/ Katie Rothweiler In this introduction to lyra, learn to enter, exit, move and pose on this beautiful apparatus, using smooth transitions and graceful movements. Jazz w/ Audrey Baran This Intermediate/Advanced Jazz class will begin with a vigorous warm up focusing on strength, flexibility, and preparing the body to move across the floor. Center combinations blend traditional Jazz technique with Contemporary movement, challenging the brain and body. Class will culminate in a longer phrase encouraging expressiveness and high energy! 4

5 Making Dances with Meaning w/ Susan Murphy Exploring the intention behind the creation. Using imagery and movement vocabulary to tell stories and inspire! Partner Acro Basics w/ Carlos Alexis Cruz An exploration of concepts and foundations for partner balancing, aka Hand to Hand. The sessions will range from individual balancing forms, and from there move in to the work with a partner, and potentially a whole ensemble. Physical Theatre w/ Carlos Alexis Cruz An introduction to the dynamics of a movement-based theatre. Creating original theater through an understanding of character, dramatic motor, rhythm and use of the space. Perfect session to develop character creation techniques for aerial dancers. Rigging Chat w/ Carlos Alexis Cruz Rigging discussion Roll out (Silks) w/ Molly Graves So many skills on fabric tend to roll out or down the fabric! We will work on ways to safely incorporate this motion into your choreography and explore various new rolling drop skills. Ropework Trapeze w/ Leah Leor Exploring the space above the bar! So much creative exploration on a trapeze happens without touching the bar. Learn how to safely explore as well as some useful skills and choreography to help you gain endurance and confidence in the ropes! Spin Class (Lyra) w/ Elise Sipos Learn how to creatively spin your aerial apparatus and how to control it and be able to use your momentum to carry over into your tricks! Straps w/ Carlos Alexis Carlos A class for all levels; an introduction to one of the hardest and more exciting circus disciplines. From Iron Cross roll ups to balancing splits, there is a world to be discovered within. Teaching Methods / Teaching Adults w/ Julianna Hane Adults training in dance and circus arts have a different goal when taking recreational classes. Learn how to keep the class fun while paying attention to safety in regards to body alignment and strength. 5

We will discuss childhood development from ages 6-18 and some ideas on how you to connect to your students better. Understanding Graham w/ Wanda Ebright Students will discover the basics of the Martha Graham Technique, including physical 'contraction and release', use of spiral, and shift of weight. They'll be working on body coordination, musicality, and body awareness. Unlocking the Breath: Stretching the Upper Torso w/ Alicia Williams All too often, our ribs form a cage that remains locked -- and our shoulders sit atop the door like heavy bars. In this class, we'll explore methods of unlocking the tension, creating space in the joints, & finding a deeper breath to open our shoulder and back flexibility. Dress warmly with layers and be ready to sweat! 6
