1 Skegee Fit Online Challenge Tuskegee University Cooperative Extension

2 Purpose Skegee Fit seeks to promote healthy lifestyles in a fun but challenging way to the Tuskegee University community and stakeholders in Alabama Counties of interest to our programs.

3 Knowledge and Evidence-based Pilot Test Skegee Fit Online Challenge is based on knowledge and evidence developed through the Small Steps to Health and Wealth at sister Extension Programs in the nation (Rutgers, Arizona State, etc.) Small steps to behavioral change provide motivation to consumers to implement change strategies that have proven to improve their health and other personal challenge areas (finances, self esteem, etc.)

4 Objectives 1. Encourage better eating habits and physical activities. 2. Support each other for healthier lifestyles 3. Provide a fresh exciting way to record lifestyle changes with the convenience of a ready-made online platform.

5 How Does This Work? Each participating faculty, staff, student, friend or family member will be asked to register online and will be assigned to a team based on the college, unit or group where they work or live. Each group will need to get as many co-workers, friends and family members active as possible to accumulate health points. Health Points can be earned by participating in highly recommended daily and weekly challenges in addition to a wide variety of fitness and wellness activities.

6 How Does This Work? Skegee Fit Online will send fitness and exercise tips, healthful recipes, reminders to track your activity

7 Overview Skegee Fit Online provides daily challenges for users to participate in. We encourage users to participate in each of the daily challenges to gain points as well as creating healthy habits. Skegee Fit Online also provides Skegee Fit Plus Challenges which are challenges that are greater in difficulty. These challenges also reward the user with more points towards their total. Daily Activities o Consumed of 3 servings of fruits and vegetables o Drank at least eight 8-oz. glasses of water o Performed at least 30 minutes (or 150 minutes/week) of walk or physical activity Skegee Fit Plus o More than 5 servings of veggies and/or fruits o Less than 2 hours of TV or other recreational screen time o More than 1 hour of physical activity o Zero soda/sweet drinks and/or fried foods

8 Challenges Skegee Fit Online also seeks to involve participants outside the Tuskegee University community. Users will also be asked to encourage others to join them in this program. By recruiting new members, you can also gain more points for your overall total. Recruitment o Learned and shared new information about health and wellness o Recruited and helped a family member, colleague or friend to register for the Skegee Fit Online Fall 2015 Challenge o Convinced a family member, colleague or friend to participate in any wellness/healthy lifestyle activity or practice

9 Registration is simple and easy! Here you will find an example of the registration page Registration

10 Online Tracking System Every day you can track your performance and journal your journey to total fitness! Once you complete the pre-challenge survey, you will be asked which team you choose to join. The teams are comprised of the seven colleges and schools of Tuskegee University as well as friends of family of the Tuskegee Community. You simply click what you have accomplished during the day or week and the system automatically updates your points to your personal journal. After you have recorded your personal accomplishments, you can view the your total points for the entire challenge as well as the leaderboard for some healthy competition.
