Krian- Prof. Dr. S. Daebritz THIS IS MY ACTUAL ATTACHMENT AS A LEADING CONSULTANT OF CARDIOVASCULAR SURGERY AT THE HEART CENTER DUISBURG. MY responsibilities and duties in our hospital can be summarized as follows:

As a leading consultant in the Heart Center Duisburg, I am responsible for the planning and decision making of our patients for admission (checking of the indication and suitability for surgery; about 2200 cases/year ). 2. Performing of surgery for complex cases (whole spectrum of adult cardiac surgery) about 500 cases per year. 3. Responsible for mitral and tricuspid valve repair (performing the surgery by myself and teaching other surgeons). 4. Arranging teaching courses of mitral and tricuspid valve surgery for the cardiac surgeons from whole Germany. 5. Regular presentations of different items in adult cardiac surgery. 6. As a leading consultant, I am sharing the responsibility for the management of administration s decisions for the department. 7. Involvement in the interview panels and appointment related courses as well as participation in the appointment s process for medical colleagues. I am also a member of our clinical audit committee (4 persons), who is supervising our standards like Anticoagulation, Cardioplegia, wound therapy. Also we are discussing in our morbidity and mortality weekly meeting all complicated cases. My teaching experience can be described as follows: 1. Regular teaching of the registrars and the junior consultants. 2. Regular video presentations of operations, done by myself, to teach special operations with special skills. 3. Occasional teaching of the nursing staff, concerning anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology in cardiac surgery. 4. Cardiac surgery and cardiac intensive care review courses for our resident who are preparing for German Board of Cardiac Surgery and cardiac intensive care specialty. Additional areas of clinical skill and competence relevant to my post are: 1.Postoperative patient management ( specialist in cardiac surgical intensive care). 2.Follow up of the patients postoperatively through regular ward rounds. 3.Emergency intervention ( aortic dissection, acute endocarditis...etc) 4.Conduction and supervision of research, study projects, audit...etc 5.Attendance of the MDTs, conferences, meetings, congresses..etc 6. Communication with the other departments and hospitals to receive and to send the referrals. 7. Krian This is my first job as a Consultant of Cardiac Surgery, my duties were mainly to perform heart operations and occasionally thoracic and vascular operations. At that time we had at the Heart Center a lot of emergency and regular cases, in whom I was involved as Operator also to assist other surgeons. Additionally I was also involved in the other duties in the hospital like patients care in the ICU as well as on the ward. Also presentations and research were belonging to my work. Gams University Hospital Duesseldorf-Germany In this period as an assistant Doctor for training in the cardiovascular and thoracic surgery at the University hospital in Duesseldorf I was involved in the departmental routine daily work at the adult and also at the children ward concerning all perioperative care. I worked also for more than 8 months at the surgical intensive care unit of the hospital caring of al surgical patients; cardiac, vascular and also polytraumatic and general surgical patients.in the daily clinical meeting I was also involved and responsible for patients preparation and presentation for the next day surgery.i was integrated into the on-call service for the whole surgical department dealing with cardiac, vascular and polytraumatic patients including all sorts of emergencies in that field. Concerning my surgical training, I was able in that time to develop my surgical skills as assisting complex operations and perform by myself different heart operations needed to gain my speciality in cardiac surgery.
