3 Welcome address by Søren-Peter Olesen Søren-Peter is director of the Danish National Research Foundation Centre for Cardiac Arrhythmia.

4 Speakers in action

5 Peter Mohler presented his work on the role of the cytoskeleton in cardiac arrhythmia. Silvia Priori gave the opening lecture, setting the scene with her contribution Cardiac arrhythmia from bench to bedside. Sam Dudley shared his data on regulation of sodium channels.

6 Claus Graff from the University of Aalborg taught us how much we can actually learn from the T-wave morphology. He also made very clear which team dominates the Danish soccer league Bill Kobertz opened the toolbox and showed us new tools for investigating the cardiac I Ks complex.

7 Morten Schak Nielsen presented his work on the regulation of cardiac connexins by phosphorylation. William Louch presented his data on calcium signaling in heart failure. Eli Rothenberg showed us amazing pictures from his nanocale imaging of protein interaction at the intercalated disc. Bill was also chairperson on Tuesday together with Morten Thomsen. Bill and Morten represented the Special Interest Group on Cardiac Physiology of the Scandinavian Physiological Society who sponsored the poster session.

8 Larissa Fabritz took us to the dark side of exercise in her talk Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Cardiomyopathy - from mice to men. Alicia Lundby, setting up her presentation about integrating advanced proteomics approaches with GWAS data to investigate cardiac signaling pathways.

9 In his talk entitled Cardiac fibroblasts Stephan Rohr from the University of Bern in Switzerland reminded us that a heart does not only comprise cardiomyocytes Elijah Behr from the St. Georges University in London presented novel genes underlying Brugada syndrome.

10 Uli Schotten shared his latest take on atrial fibrillation mechanisms. Andrew Trafford enlightened us about the role of atrial T tubules.

11 Katriina Aalto-Setälä, from the University of Tampere in Finland showed us her data on electrical signaling in human cardiac myocytes derived from induced pluripotent stem cells.

12 Mattis Ranthe is waiting for his turn on stage presenting his work on the epidemiology of familial cardiac disease. Jonas Diness takes questions from the audience about his research on SK channel inhibitors for the treatment of atrial fibrillation. Michael Riley from the University of Pennsylvania after his talk on catheter ablation for the treatment of atrial fibrillation.

13 Björn Knollmann enjoyed talking about the treatment of catecholaminergic polymorphic ventricular tachycardia. We enjoyed listening, too.

14 Igor Efimov vividly explained us cardiac remodeling in human ventricles. Also Martin Young was very engaged telling us about the role of the cardiomyocyte circadian clock. In addition, Martin did a great job presenting some of Mukesh Jain s data on how circadian rhythm governs cardiac repolarization. Mukesh had unfortunately to cancel his travel to Copenhagen, but entrusted Martin with his data what a beautiful example of scientific spirit!

15 Martin Tristani-Firouzi and Steven Poelzing know each other from the Cardiovascular Research and Training Institute of the University of Salt Lake City. Martin presented his impressive data on high throughput functional characterization of arrhythmiaassociated genetic variants. Steve, who recently moved to Virginia Tech Carilion, showed us how his lab employs voltagesensitive dyes in isolated hearts to study cardiac action potential conduction.

16 Reza Wakili from the Ludwig- Maximilians-University Munich talking to Uli Schotten. Unfortunately, Reza never turned around... but he gave a great presentation on the potential role of micrornas as new therapeutic targets and potential biomarkers. He presented on Tuesday The biomedical research cycle: From gene identification to gene characterization and translation into applied medicine.

18 Morten Salling Olesen, Stig Haunsø, and Peter Weeke enjoy the lunch break in the sun. Stig was co-organizer of the meeting and chaired the Wednesday session. He is board member of the Danish National Research Foundation Centre for Cardiac Arrhythmia (DARC). Morten presented the work on genetics of early onset lone atrial fibrillation performed at DARC.

20 Also when not on the podium, Bill Kobertz was very active contributing immensely to the discussions. Sara Liin, here in the audience, gave a presentation entitled Molecular basis of sensitivity to polyunsaturated fatty acids on Monday afternoon.

29 and the winner is The poster award winner was Maria Mathilde Haugaard from the University of Copenhagen, who presented a beautiful study in cardiac physiology: Induced lone atrial fibrillation in horses: An electrophysiological study of flecainide. She won a life-time membership of the SPS and a nerdy trophy for the mantelpiece.

33 Jesper Hastrup Svendsen and Jacob Tfelt-Hansen, both from the Copenhagen University Hospital - Rigshospitalet enjoyed the pancakes Jesper presented a status on arrhythmia research in Denmark on Monday. Jacob gave a talk about genetic causes underlying sudden cardiac death on Thursday. Nicole Schmitt was enjoying the pancakes, too. Nicole had multiple roles she was co-organizer of the meeting, chaired the Monday session and presented the work on K 2P 3.1 potassium channel variants in early-onset lone atrial fibrillation.
