Among them lepidpteran group of insects are very important Spodoptera litura is one of the major polyphagous insect pest of this group. To over come this problem, scientist of CSIR-NBRI has been developed a novel chimera of two δ-endotoxins and name as Cry1EC & synthesized its gene artificially working mode. The gene Cry1EC itself is an important lead/technology. Special feature :- The inventive protein/gene has high insecticidal property against insect at all developmental stages. It is stable in transgenic plants. This technology will increase & stabilize agricultural productivity of crops. The technology/inventive protein helps to protect environment from hazardous pesticides. The inventive gene used to engineer crops like cotton, ground nut, tobacco, capsicum, chilli etc. for resistance to S. liutera.

One of these proteins was isolated from an edible fern Tectaria sp, which is lethal to Whitefly and interferes in its reproductive process.this fern s anti - whitefly protein was introduced in cotton to translate the potential of protein into a technology. The selected transgenic cotton lines shows remarkable control of whitefly population through several generation.
