8 Q2. Create your personal blog with your name, photo, and areas of interest through the website and blog address on Instruction- Where ever you will visit in your summer Holidays take snaps and post it on your blog By describing it.
9 Name:- Class:-X SCIENCE HOLIDAY ASSIGNMENT Activities: Perform the activities given below and do some investigation before performing the activity, record your observations and analyze the result of your investigation and observation on the basis of questions given for each activity. For each activity some hint and links are mentioned. Use the hints and websites for performing the activities. Note: It is compulsory to shoot the video of the task given and submit it as a record of your investigation along with the observation and analysis of result. 1. Aim: Investigation on time taken by different food items ( bread, cooked meat, fruits, vegetables) to breakdown in stomach (based on human digestive system). Hint: Take vinegar as stomach acid. Before you start your investigation do some research on human digestion.(roll No 1 to 6) Websites: Extension to the activity: repeat the experiment with highly processed junk food and chewing gum. Analysis of investigation: Which food item seems to break down the quickest, in the acid (vinegar)? Which food didn t break down easily in the vinegar? How similar is vinegar to stomach acid? What are the differences? 2. Aim: To test effect of different liquids (vinegar, cola soft drink, black coffee, water, juice) on eggshells (based on demineralisation of teeth). Hint: Try to find out component of different drinks example vinegar contains acetic acid, to explore your project and reach desired result. (Roll No 7 to 12) Websites: Extension to the activity: To test how toothpaste protects the teeth, use an old toothbrush to rub some on one egg. Use a clean egg as a control. Put each egg in a jar of vinegar and compare the eggshells after a day or two. Analysis of investigation: What is demineralisation? Which liquid changed the look of eggshell? What happened to the liquid in each jar? 3. Aim: To study the process of rusting (oxidation) on different metals (copper, iron, steel and bronze on any other available metal). Hint: Take vinegar and salt solution to do this experiment.(roll No 13 to 18) Websites: Extension to the activity: Use only one type of metal and observe what happens in different liquids, such as salt water and tap water. Analysis of investigation:
10 Do you find any colour change on metal surface? Why a green colour coating is seen over copper metal? Is this process is observed in food items also, verify? 4. Aim: To combine antacids tablets in sealed container to produce carbon dioxide gas and to see whether the amount of antacid makes a difference in the amount of gas that forms. Hint: Take a plastic bottle with water (reaction between antacid and water) and balloon to collect the gas produced.(roll No 19 to last roll no) Websites: Extension to the activity: Use lemon juice in place of water and repeat the experiment. Change the amount of water instead of changing amount of antacid. Change the temperature of the water to see whether that affects the amount of carbon dioxide produced. Analysis of investigation: What amount of antacid produced the most carbon dioxide? What causes acidity? How does antacid control acidity? What type of reaction is taking place in the process? Chemistry Questions:- (Do HW in your NB) 1. Balance the following chemical equations: (i) AgI + Na 2 S Ag 2 S +NaI (ii) CaCl 2 + Na 3 PO 4 Ca 3 (PO 4 ) 2 + NaCl (iii) FeS + O 2 Fe 2 O 3 + SO 2 (iv) PCl 5 + H 2 O H 3 PO 4 + HCl (v) Ba 3 N 2 + H 2 O Ba(OH) 2 + NH 3 2. A student has mixed the solutions of lead (II) nitrate and potassium iodide. (i) What was the colour of the precipitate formed? Can you name the compound precipitated? (ii) Write the balanced chemical equation for this reaction. (iii) What type of reaction is it? 3. A student burnt a metal A found in the form of ribbon. The ribbon burnt with a dazzling flame & a white powder B is formed which is basic in nature. Identify A & B. Write the balanced chemical equation. 4. A student dropped few pieces of marble in dilute HCl contained in a test tube. The gas evolved was passed through lime water. What change would be observed in lime water? Write chemical reactions for both the change observed. 5. Astha has been collecting silver coins and copper coins. One day she observed a black coating on silver coins and a green coating on copper coins. Which chemical phenomenon is responsible for these coatings? Write the chemical name of black and green coatings. 6. Bhawana took a pale green substance A in a test tube. and heated it over the flame of a burner. A brown colored residue B was formed along with evolution of two gases with burning smell of sulphur. Identify A & B. Write the chemical reaction involved.
11 7. A compound `X` is used for drinking, has ph =7. Its acidified solution undergoes decomposition in presence of electricity to produce gases `Y` and `Z` The volume of Y is double than Z. Y is highly combustible whereas Z is supporter of combustion. Identify X, Y & Z and write the chemical reactions involved. Biology Questions:- (Do HW in your NB) 1. When the piece of bread is chewed slowly, it tastes sweeter after some times. Why? 2. Why is the small intestine in herbivores larger than in carnivores? 3. What is the significance of emulsification of fats? 4. Tooth enamel is one of the hardest substances in our body yet damage occurs when chocolates & sweets are eaten? Why? What will you do to prevent it? 5. What do you understand by the term Hyperacidity in a patient? What is the remedy for it? 6. HCl and proteolysis enzymes produced by stomach do not digest its own wall. Why? 7. In case of dysentery people feel a sense of weakness. What may be reason for this? 8. If the pancreatic duct of person is locked. How would it affect the digestion of fats in the duodenum? 9. Tomatoes, carrots and chilies are red in color due to the presence of one pigment? Is it a photosynthetic pigment? 10. Which property of the pigment is responsible for its ability to initiate the process of Photosynthesis? 11. Why is the rate of photosynthesis higher in the red and blue region of spectrum of light?
