1 American Herbalists Guild Mentor Directory 1 The following herbalists, professional members of the American Herbalists Guild, have expressed their willingness to participate in the mentorship program, furthering the ability of herbal students to gain access to clinical training experiences. The AHG in no way makes any specific referral to mentors, nor does the AHG take responsibility for any aspect or outcome of student-mentor relationships. 7 Song P.O. Box 6626 Ithaca, NY Background: Founder/Director of Northeast School of Botanical Medicine, 7Song has been informally practicing for over 20 years since beginning "formal" studies in 1983 at the California School of Herbal Studies. He attended classes and taught botany at the Southwest School of Botanical Medicine (Michael Moore), and has taught at numerous schools and conferences throughout the United States. A "diligent lay botanist," 7Song has gathered and prepared most of his herbal medicines (over 200). Prerequisites: Educational background must include "Herbology 101." Must have an understanding of differential diagnosis, including TCM (8 principles), Ayurveda, and specific indications (Eclectic). Must have a reasonable Materia Medica. Interest in gathering and preparation of plant medicines, and commitment to community-based herbalism are highly valued. 7Song would like to meet with prospective students for an in-depth interview in person, or by phone if necessary, to determine if there is a good fit. 2 Chanchal Cabrera 3636 Trent Road Courtenay, BC V9N 9R Background: Chanchal has been a member of the National Institute of Medical Herbalists since 1987 and practices as a medical herbalist and clinical aromatherapist. She has served two consecutive terms as a council member of the AHG, with special responsibility for educational issues. She publishes widely in professional journals and lectures internationally on herbalism. Chanchal is associate editor of Medical Herbalism newsletter and serves on the board of advisors of Bastyr University and Dominion Herbal College and the board of directors of WellSprings Center for Natural Healing, a non-profit cancer and AIDS center. She is also the founder and coowner of Gaia Garden Herbal Dispensary, a full-service herbal store and clinic in Vancouver, BC.
