Lion Jerry Barker (left), Hillsboro s Community Development Director, presentedaninformativeslideshowdetailingplanstoencourage growth and improvements in Hillsboro. Pictured with him is Hillsboro Lion Vice President Lenn Williams. Lion Matt Thomas encouraged HLC members to support Hill County youth at the Hill County Fair, January 26 throughjanuary 28 at the Hill County Fairgrounds. Area youths will be displaying crafts andbakedgoods and showing animals. A new event this year is a Steak-Tip Buyer s Appreciation Meal on Saturday at 11, prior to the Livestock Auction at 1:00. Buyers at the auction are actually supporting these young people in showing their animals at subsequent livestock shows. Animals include lambs. Goats, swine, rabbit, broilers, steers, and heifers. There is also a dairy show and a horse show on Saturday morning. Concessions will be sold by 4-H, including grilled burgers and barbeque. Pictured above with Lion Thomas is President Jennifer Nowlin. Joel Kell (pictured above with Lion Nancy Jackson), manager of the Texas Great Country Cafe in Whitney, addressed the Lions Club on the serious problem of PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder).Besidesbeingcommonamongmilitaryveteranswho have experienced the horrors of war, the condition also occurs in persons who are First Responders in crisis situations and in persons who have been involved in violent crimes or serious accidents. He discussed several situations which were personal to him and his close friends and family, pointing out how delays in getting help can be devastating. He encouraged people to contribute to DAV and to show kindness and consideration to those who suffer. Who do you know that would make a great Lion? Ask a friend, coworker or family member to be your guest at your next club gathering with you!
