2 Ministry Overview Ministry Description: Provide your mission statement, including your vision and/or purpose. (Please write 300 words or less. This description will be published in the pre-conference journal for the 2018 Session of the Annual Conference.) The mission of the United Methodist Appalachian Ministry Network is to advocate for Appalachia within the structure of the United Methodist Church and to empower social justice through leadership development and collaboration with ministries and organizations that serve the region. We envision a society where all people in Appalachia are valued. One in which all are offered discipleship for Jesus Christ and where all have the opportunity to realize God-centered spiritual, social, and economic potential. What aspect of your ministry is funded by mission shares? Mission shares allows UMANN to provide board members with a bi- annual leadership development training. It also allows for the executive coordinator to make site visits to the Hunger and Poverty funded grantees. It provides financial support to board members to attend regional conferences that address the needs of the people in the Appalachian region. How do you achieve your mission, vision, and/or purpose and how does it reflect the mission statement of the Mississippi Annual Conference? Our program provides the food, clothing, and family education. We understand poverty and hunger are social issues that must be addresses with love and compassion. By focusing on the family needs, we enable the local church to minister to those in need.

3 Looking Back: Stewardship Report for 2017 Mission Shares What has your ministry been to date and how have you benefited from mission shares? UMAMN has benefited from mission shares in 2017 because it has allowed the network to stay connected. We provide monthly meetings using Go to Meeting and provide bi- annual reports that are mailed to board members, churches and conferences. What percentage of your board members financially contribute to your ministry? 100% Has your program revenues and contributions changed, this year? Is so, how? Our program revenues have not changed in this year. Apportioned mission shares come from gracious givers in local churches. In what ways are you communicating with local churches about your ministry? UMAMN provides churches with bi-annual updates, reports and program information to encourage giving thru mission shares. Board members also share the leadership training information with their local congregations. In addition, each time a donation is sent, the donor receives a thank you card from the UMAMN office (whenever the address is provided).

Testimonial One: Working with the members of the UMAMN has allowed me to increase my participation in Appalachian Ministry. I appreciate the financial support that UMAMN gives me to attend the meetings and the professional development trainings. I was fortunate to attend a regional education conference in WV this year with the support of UMAMN. Attending this conference increased my awareness of issues and concerns (and solutions) our youth. 5 Looking Forward: Stewardship Vision Plan for 2019 Apportioned Mission Shares 2019 Mission Share Request: $ What do you see as your specific goals for the apportioned mission shares you are requesting for 2019? In 2019, the UMAMN network proposes to have 15 members who attend bi- annual meetings and trainings. In addition, the network will provide trainings and community conversations for board members, local church leaders, community leaders and educational leaders to address the needs of the community. The goal will be to provide at least four of these training in various states. The funding will assist to offset the cost of these trainings. Describe your needs of partnership, other than financial (training, accreditation, etc.), with the annual conference. The training and community conversations will be essential in 2019 to the UMAMN partnership with annual conference. In addition, the UMAMN Executive Coordinator plans to attend meetings of other programs that are funded by MS conference to work on collaboration and partnership. The MS conference will be vital to helping UMAMN stay connected and advocate for projects and local agencies that may need assistance. Property and Insurance Explain any building or renovation projects now under way, including how you plan to fund the projects. Projects expected to start in 2018 should be included.
