Club Newsletter Volume 6, Issue 1 October 2016 Visit our website: Contact us by clubclub@enigmagymnasticsclub.co.uk Inside this issue: #IAM TeamGB 2 Our move to Levenmouth Academy 2 1st steps in our new facilities 3 Parents and carers week 3 Registration Days 4 Sported Fit for Impact 5 Display Team travel to Glasgow 6 Active Fife Sports Camp 6 Ups and Downs Conference 7 UKCC Level 1 coaching course 7 Meet the Committee 8 Welcome Welcome to the first newsletter of the year, Thank you for all those who have supported Enigma GC so far and have returned after our Summer break. For those who are new to the Club, our newsletter is to keep you updated with what we are doing at present and our plans for the future. The Club produces 4 newsletters, one per term, articles are written by gymnasts, young helpers and coaches and collated by our Club Chair. Enjoy reading our latest termly news. For daily updates please consult our posts of our facebook page. Did you know? All gymnasts this session were given a gift on joining the club after the summer break. A teddy bear with an Enigma GC logo d tshirt was proudly presented to all gymnasts and coaches. New proud owners of the gift were asked to name their bear and tell us if it gets up to anything special. From the pictures posted on our club facebook page the bears certainly did. We hope you all enjoy looking after the bear. Noticeboard 8 International Volunteering 8

Page 2 #IAM TeamGB Our club signed up to the nation s largest sports day. On Sunday 28 th August we opened our club to children who had never taken part in the sport before to join us and our classes. The day was promoted by the STV appeal Club Newsletter and TeamGB. We were lucky to be joined by local Paralympian Paul Noble MBE. He spoke to all of our gymnasts and showed us his gold medals whilst we watched and supported gymnasts to do the best they can in Our move to Levenmouth Academy On Monday 4 th August, we hired a local transport company, A & P removals, with help from our older gymnasts and committee members we moved our club from Kirkland HS CUS and Parkhill PS to Levenmouth Academy PE Annexe. It really was an emotional day for us leaving the school where we first started the club 5 years ago. Once we got the equipment out of the lorry our gymnasts couldn t wait to get it set up to see what it would look like as well as try to fit it into the storage we had been allocated. Exciting times ahead for us were we must thank the staff at Kirkland HS and Parkhill PS for allowing us to train out of their schools and store our equipment in their limited bays and cupboards. A special thanks must go to Julie Brown, Depute Head at Parkhill PS, for her support with the Display team and the Friday evening sessions. Thanks must also go to Andy Herd, Daryl Keddie and Louise Deighan, Community Use, Karen Hamilton, Levenmouth Academy Business Manager and Nicola Cunningham, PT PE for their support with moving to the PE Annexe and the copious amount of planning.

Volume 6, Issue 1 Page 3 First steps in our new training facilities Week commencing Monday 23 rd August was such a special week with all our gymnasts taking part in our classes in the new facilities of Levenmouth Academy PE Annexe. Jenn tells us We couldn t believe it when we first set up for our classes that week. So much space and the chance to use lots of apparatus. It is a dream come true for our committee especially those who worked hard behind the scenes to secure the sportshall and gymnasium for our classes to use. This is something we have wanted to do for such a long time. Jenn adds It was really exciting planning our sessions for the first week and the rest of the term. We are being creative with our apparatus set ups, using our equipment in different ways and using some piece of apparatus we were unable to use at Kirkland because of the limited space we had. Now we are even planning on buying more equipment so we can offer 4 piece apparatus. We can t wait. Moving to the Annexe, allows us to offer so many more opportunities for our gymnasts

Page 4 Parents and carer s week We aim to hold a parents and carer week once a term inviting you all to join our children in their classes. This is your opportunity to see first-hand what the children have been learning over the last term. Many thanks to those who supported our parents and carers week towards the end Club Newsletter of term 1. If possible, please can you all try to come along to the next parents and carers week. We ask this because if a child s parent/ carer is not there the children do become quite upset asking why their family member is not there. Most children love to show what they have been learning and it really is different doing it in the gym compared to the living room at home. Thank you for your cooperation with our way of sharing our children s learning. Registration Days Thank you to all those who supported our registration days and the first chance for you to see the facility we would be based in, having a look at the sportshall, gymnasium and changing areas. It really does make the whole process a lot easier for our committee to manage if you attend these days. It s a chance for you to ask questions about the club, update contact information, make required fee payments as well as putting faces to names. Unfortunately and having looked at how busy these days are over the past few years and due to one of the days being a lot busier than the other our committee have taken the decision that next year we will only hold one registration day. We are sorry if this causes inconvenience but we need to think about the cost to host a registration day and our volunteers time. We hope you will support us with this decision.

Volume 5, Issue 4 Page 5 Sported Fit for Impact We have joined forces with Sported UK. It is a free membership organisation that supports community sport clubs and groups across the UK to deliver Sport for Development. Sported have a network of volunteer business mentors who work with our committee on a one-to-one basis, providing expert consultancy on business issues ranging from financial planning and fundraising, to marketing and governance. We have been given Premium membership. We had to undergo a telephone interview and submit club governance info. We are currently working with one of their mentors, John Campbell. He is supporting us to take part in the Fit for Impact programme and to embed and implement best practice, through a mix of one-to-one support and group workshops. We have undertaken a self assessment of our Club in the form of the Measuring Up Tool. A series of online questions making us think about the way we do things in the club. A report has been produced and John will guide us through the next process helping us to develop our understanding of impact practice in order to take forward the actions in the report.

Page 6 Display Team travel to Glasgow Club Newsletter Our display team travelled to Scotstoun Leisure Centre in Glasgow to take part in Sapphire GC s 6 th Birthday celebrations. Our team s next performance is in Perth at Gymfest in November. A super routine was performed by our team and tremendous support by our parents. Active Fife Holiday Camp During the last week of the summer holidays, Amber, Kelsey, Alex and Beth under the guidance of our Head Coach delivered gymnastics taster sessions for the Active Fife Sports Camp held at Kennoway Primary and Community School. Many thanks must go to them for giving the children on the camp the opportunity to take part in the sport. The week of the camp coincided with the Rio Olympic Games and so our volunteers spent time answering questions about Gymnastics in the Olympics and the gymnasts representing Great Britain, inspiring young children to follow the sport.

Page 7 Volume 6, Issue 1 Ups and Downs Conference We were honoured to be asked to present at the annual Ups & Downs Support Group conference at Lundin Links hotel in October. In preparation for the conference a few committee members got to together and came up with the idea of filming parents, gymnasts and coaches involved in the Jump Up, Jump Down programme within our Club. These media clips were then shown to an audience of over 40 parents and professionals providing an insight into our provision and the partnerships necessary to make the programme happen. UKCC Level 1 Coaching Course & Exam Lee Duffy and Alex Rhinds have attended the ukcc Level 1 General Gymnastics coaching course held at Cowdenbeath and Levenmouth Leisure Centres. Many thanks must go to the gymnasts who helped them on the course as well as the other coaches who required to use gymnasts. Lee and Alex will work their way through a logbook, plan sessions and practical demos before sitting their exam in January Good luck. A massive well done must go to Kelsey Paterson who has passed her UKCC Level 1 General Gymnastics coaching exam, to those who helped her with her practical examination and for travelling to Dundee. Congratulations Kelsey so well deserved.
