4 A.R. Goudie Resident and Family Christmas Open House! When: Thursday, December 6 th, 2018 Where: The Grand Hall (GH) Time: 6:00pm - 8:00pm Cost: Complimentary Come and join us for a fun evening as we celebrate the holiday season in style! Entertainment, Appetizers and Beverages will be provided.
5 Message from the Executive Director From the Desk of Paul Hello Everyone! Welcome to November. We managed to have a few sunny warm days in October and the Goudie trees have shown their true fall colors. We as an organization had our annual Operational Planning forum on October 24 th and 25 th. During this time an evening is set aside to celebrate the contributions of our Values awards winners from all across peoplecare. We are happy to announce our Value Awards winners for 2018 from A.R. Goudie: Wendy Filiatrault for the People Value Award, Wendy Williams for the Growth Value Award, Rachel Konnerth for the Excellence Value Award and myself for the Excellence Value Award. In keeping with awards, Emma Schmolling is a top 10 finalist for the upcoming Personal Support Worker of the Year Award put on by the Ontario Long Term Care Association. We also want to recognize two of our team members, Jenna MacNeil and Allison Chadwick, who just graduated from the Leadership Certificate Program through Conestoga College. Congratulations to all of our awards winners and best of luck to Emma! As we move into Influenza Season we encourage team members, family, residents and visitors to consider acquiring the flu shot. Anabela did a wonderful job educating our home teams and providing vaccinations during infection control week. Flu shots are provided at most pharmacies free of charge or at the various flu shot clinics offered by Public health. As a reminder, one of the best precautions is proper handwashing and the use of sanitizer to prevent the spread of germs, and of course staying home if you have any symptoms. Stay well. We have learned that our Pet Therapy volunteer Cathy V. & her dog, Mickey, will be unable to continue on servicing the home. We thank her for her many hours of service and the special bond she brought with her therapy dogs, both Timmy and Mickey, and our residents. Our team members and residents looked forward to the four legged friends visiting and this will be missed. We wish you well Cathy and thank you from all of us. Halloween celebrations were a scary good time for all; a great party put on by Rachel & the program team, as well as all the volunteers who assisted. Great costumes and engagement by the Three Blind Mice and Farmers Wife from the third floor team and the volunteers who dressed up and joined in. Please join us for our Remembrance day ceremony on Sunday, November 11 th at 10:45am in the Grand Hall. We will also be hosting our annual Snowflake Bazaar on Saturday, November 24 th from 8:30am until 2:00pm in the Grand Hall. I would also like to take the time to introduce everyone to Karen Gordon who is A.R. Goudie s new Office Manager; please feel free to introduce yourself and welcome Karen to the Goudie community. Starting in December, A.R. Goudie`s Administrator Florin Perte will begin completing the From the Desk of portion of the newsletter. Best Regards, Paul Rektor Senior Executive Director

7 Chaplain s Chat Our Remembrance Day Service will be at 10:45am on Sunday, November 11 th in the Grand Hall. Manuel Santos, Stefan Horeth, Jack Winch and Emil Sonnenburg are the Veterans living with us. If you are a Veteran, please inform our Chaplain Wil, so your name can be included in the Remembrance Day Service! A CANADIAN MOMENT by William Bedford The plaintive wail of the pipes and the beat of the muffled drum echo in the morning mist. The Maple Leaf snaps in the breeze above the bowed heads of the mourners while John McCrae's immortal words are read. As the bugler sounds the Last Post, the youngsters fidget, and look forward to playtime. The oldsters shuffle, and look backward to wartime. The past and the future of this blessed land mingle here at the 11th hour, on the 11th day of the 11th month, for a Canadian moment.
