PRESIDENT S MESSAGE FROM THE DESK OF THE PRESIDENT GUARDIANSHIP IN A CHANGING WORLD We are excited and looking forward to this years GAPC Annual Conference, Guardianship in a Changing World. Thank you to those who have already registered. If you are still planning to attend, please visit our Association Website to register now. This year s Conference Committee is proud to welcome the Honorable Pamela Campbell and representatives from the OPPG. As our newest Probate Judge in the 6th District, we look forward to Judge Campbell s presentation. Although much of the Board s attention has been focused on the 2018 Conference, remember that the BOD election is just a few months away. We will be opening the application process shortly. Information regarding qualifications and responsibilities will be posted on the Association Website soon. Please be sure to check our site for details. 4 Division of Inspector General Office of Ken Burke Clerk of the Circuit Court and Comptroller for Pinellas County, Florida FLORIDA CLERK S STATEWIDE INVESTIGATION ALLIANCE (SIA) OFFICE OF PUBLIC AND PROFESSIONAL GUARDIANS (OPPG) A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Florida Department of Elder Affairs Office of Public & Professional Guardians(OPPG) and the Florida Clerks of Circuit Court and Comptrollers Offices of Inspector Generals establishing the Clerk s Statewide Investigation Alliance (SIA) for the purpose of conducting investigations of allegations that professional and public guardians have violated the provisions of Chapter 744, Florida Statutes, or the standards of practice established by the OPPG governing the conduct of professional and public guardians. In order to maintain a proficiency in the guardianship process and statutes, the Clerk and Comptroller for Pinellas County, Division of Inspector General, is hosting the SIA s 2nd Annual Training Symposium in Pinellas County. The SIA is providing an opportunity for the SIA s Inspector Generals, SIA investigators, and OPPG management and staff to network, train, and discuss key guardianship processes from subject matter experts in the following areas: Andy Sasso, Esq., Attorney, and Stephen Hitchcock, Esq., Attorney, Investigating Trust Related Issues.
