1 Chartered 1950 Next Meeting: Aug. 10, 2015 We Serve College Station Noon Lions Club Week of Aug. 3, 2015 Commitments to Excellence S teve Fullhart joined KBTX-TV in As the station s nightside executive producer, he anchors the 6 pm and 10 pm news broadcasts. He spoke to the club Monday. The College Station Noon Lions do amazing things for the community, he said. The 4 th of July is the headline event, but all the things I see on your website are phenomenal. He urged the club to inform KBTX about events so advance and day-of coverage can be scheduled. KBTX prides itself having been here during high growth years, he said. He listed the station s list of commitments to excellence. TV ANCHOR. Local television news anchor Steve Fullhart spoke Monday. We are a 24 7 operation that will act with urgency but always with accuracy, both on air and online. Fullhart said KBTX has 6-7 million online visitors per month. That s more online than via desktop or computer. We will empower people with information they can use in their daily lives. We are located in Brazos County but serve the Brazos Valley. We advocate for our viewers and help protect them. He said weather warnings are an example. He noted the station will be announcing an exciting addition to their weather news package soon. We will break down complex stories with quality writing, video and audio so they are easier to understand. We will celebrate the accomplishments of our community and help our neighbors when they are in need. He cited the annual Food for Families food drive as an example. We will listen to our viewers, respecting them and their opinions. We are seen as a team and will work together as one, respecting each member and their opinions. Fullhart outlined the daily news cycle. The dayside news team meets at 9 am. Story ideas are discussed and assignments are made. The noon news is community oriented. At 2 pm, the nightside and dayside news teams meet to review stories and plan for the 4 pm, 5 pm, 6 pm and 10 pm news programs. With so many programs, the challenge is to diversify content and explore different angles to big stories. The nightside team leaves the station around 11 pm, the same time the producer for Brazos Valley This Morning arrives. BVTM sets the table for what happened overnight, what s going on now and what s coming up, he said. A grade school teacher once told Fullhart s parents that, I am pretty sure he is going to use his voice someday for something significant.

2 Rolls to Roll to New Owner s Garage The 1958 Rolls Royce donated to the club as a fundraiser will be raffled off on Friday, Aug. 21, at the Brazos Expo Center. To reach the goals set for donations to the four charities, 1,000 tickets need to be sold at $100 each. Plenty of tickets remain. Contact Lion Caleb Holt if you need some to buy or sell. The drawing has been postponed once but will not be rescheduled. The event begins at 7 pm. The drawing at 9 pm. See flyer in this issue. It s No Picnic (Well, it is, but...) icnic at the Park. It s much more than that. It s a community event. P This is a lot more than digging a hole, eating a BBQ sandwich and going home, said event ticket sales chair Lion Bill Lartigue. Groundbreaking for the Fun for All Playground is at 10 am, followed by Picnic at the Park events until 2 pm. There will be bounce houses, games, a petting zoo, and live music by the Fabulous 8-Trax. You get all this and much more for only $10 per person. WHO? Everyone WHAT? Picnic at the Park fundraiser. WHERE? Stephen Beachy Central Park, College Station WHEN? Sat. Aug am to 2 pm. See flyer. WHY? Raise funds to build a playground that people of all ages and limitations can enjoy. College Station Noon Lions have pledged $100,000 for the playground. Ideas for Club s 65 th Anniversary Sought The College Station Noon Lions Club was chartered in On Oct 19, the club will celebrate its 65 th anniversary with a special luncheon. Lion John Nichols is chairing the committee planning the event. He is looking for input, ideas and volunteers. Call or Lion John, jpn@tamu.edu. All Things Chocolat Returns in November Nov. 10 is date for the second annual All Things Chocolat event. The inaugural All Things Chocolat event was March 24, However, the committee has moved the event to November. To get the event on a recurring fall schedule, a second one was needed this year. We did not want to lose all the momentum from GOT OLD PHOTOS? Photos of College Station Noon Lions are sought for a presentation commemorating the club s 65 th anniversary. PDG Thom Holt, right, received the Ed Flood Award Saturday night at the past district governor s banquet in Kerrville. The award is given to district governors whose clubs contribute the equivalent of $2 per member to the Texas Lions Foundation. PDG Claude Durham, assistant foundation CEO, made the presentation. The award is named in honor of Past International Director Ed Flood of Amarillo who led the effort to establish the Texas Lions Foundation. LIONS INTERNATIONAL President Jitsuhiro Yamada and Lion Diane Holt met at the Council of Governor's meeting in Kerrville. His theme for this year is: Dignity. Harmony. Humanity.
