8 P a g e 8 Central Office Delegate's Meeting Minutes at the We Are One Group February 11, 2018 Janet B., the Delegates Chair, opened the meeting at 10:09 a.m. with the Serenity Prayer. All present were reminded to turn off the volume on cellphones, sign in with their home address, not their group address. New members were requested to sign in at the bottom of the sheet and to pick up a new delegate packet. Instructions in the packet for getting on the list. Let s keep the focus on the groups. Link S. gave the Secretary s report. The January minutes and corrections to the November minutes, were distributed to all Delegates via , and available at the meeting. The January Minutes were approved with correction as shown below after these February meeting minutes. Art S. gave the s Report for January Total Income for January was $15,783.91, less Expenses of $14, leaving a net gain of $ Derrick The Board Report for the January 2018 board meeting was given by Derrick. Three board members resigned. Talk to Teresa about being on the board. Teresa was voted in as the Director. Archives person now has a key to the office and can get to the archives. Office Report Teresa, the new Central Office Director, gave the Office Report. Shelves are stocked, and the bills are paid. The new office manager is Andrea, a member of the Harrisonville Group. She has been volunteering at the office since October/November and has been trained by Teresa. She will be a great asset to the office. We are preparing for Sunflower Roundup and making sure everything is as it needs to be. We look forward to seeing everyone at Sunflower Roundup at the Jack Reardon Auditorium in KCK. The old birthday envelopes with balloons are missing information about name and sobriety date so please add that information or use the new envelopes without the balloons. Only 10 flyers can be added with the newsletter. The price is $20 for a simple white flyer, additional options are a little more. Please send flyers in PDF format. The deadline to receive flyers for distribution with the newsletter is the 27th day of the month for the following month. Adding event information to the website is free. Send requests to themanager@kc-aa.org. Old Business: None. New Business: There are openings for 3 board members to complete the terms of those who resigned. The next board meeting is February 21, Regular elections will be held in April. Nominations will begin being taken next month for new board members and for all delegate positions. The election meeting will be held at the Primary Purpose Group. There is a sheet on the table about the election procedures. Group Reports: Group One brought the topic: How often do groups change leaders? At Group One the leaders rarely change and there is no information on how to be a group leader. Harrisonville Group We sometimes struggle to get commitments filled. Sobriety requirement of 1 month for leaders. We have a meeting leader representative who helps keep the leaders on track and solicits for new leaders. Primary Purpose Group Area 25 KS Corrections Conference held in April in Lansing. Sometimes meeting leaders don t change because there is nobody else who volunteers to lead a meeting. Six months sobriety, or three months with your sponsor present. Northeast Johnson County Group has 52 meetings a week. One meeting has had the same leader for 10 years, but there are other meetings where any particular day there will be a new leader (whoever volunteers). Any kind of sobriety works! Bonner Springs getting to be a smaller group. If you lead a meeting now, you re stuck with it. If someone has to quit, there is someone to take over. Six-month requirement to lead a meeting. Alive Again meetings going well, attendance is okay. Blue Springs Group everything is going well. Added a Friday Big Book Study for women (AA and Al-Anon). Three-month sobriety requirement. No real structure in selecting meeting leaders. Simply AA-KC moved to 6701 Nall Avenue (Nall Baptist Church). Meeting leaders for their 2 meetings a week are selected at the business meeting. We Are One on the spirit of rotation, new leaders are elected once each year. So you might be stuck with a position, but thank God! Shawnee Group doing well. We ll be moving before long. We ll have to do a little demolition and rebuilding on the new place. As to meeting leaders, you just sign up on the white board on the wall. We sometimes have trouble finding meeting leaders, but there will always be someone with a key available. Nuts and Bolts-KC We re a big group and very structured. We have a lot of commitments. As for meeting
9 P a g e 9 Roundup brought flyers for the upcoming convention. For early sign-ups, with discount, the deadline has been extended. Lenexa Group doing great. New meeting starting on the concepts, Sundays 3-4. People seem to just lead meetings until they don t want to lead anymore. Elections are held every six months for some meeting leader positions. Turner Group if we have someone leading a meeting for a long time it is usually because there is nobody to take over as the leader. Just have a process. If the meeting leader doesn t show up there will be someone to lead. Bethel Group meeting leaders rotate every three months, but if you re leading a meeting you might end up leading until someone else volunteers to take over. Only our Friday Speaker meeting regularly changes leaders. One-year requirement to lead by yourself, six-months if your sponsor is present at the meeting you re leading. Unity Group three-month sobriety requirement. We have a big dry erase board showing the current leader and the next leader of each meeting. We have a meeting leader liaison who listens to concerns that arise at meetings. If the meeting leader is not present, someone volunteers and things go on. Tuesday meetings have all been changed to Grapevine meetings. Sobriety First 20 meetings a week. Rotations every three months. 90-days with sponsor eligibility to lead meetings. Tonight is their 40th Anniversary meeting dinner. Roe Center at out business meeting we always push back to sponsorship and encourage sponsors to get the new guys and gals to lead meetings. They had a meeting leader workshop. Paseo Group everything going okay. Elections for meeting leaders are held annually and the commitments last for a year. If you had the position last year, then you have to step down for the next year. However, it seems that service work is losing its priority for some. North KC steering group has set a 12-week term for meeting leaders. After term is up if the leader wants to step down the group will find a new leader. Just Us Girls Group rotation every 3-4 months. No sobriety requirement because we have a separate treasurer and there is always someone to help the meeting leader, if needed. Bill s Friends we experience everything that has already been talked about. We have a white board for leaders to sign up, as needed. Rotation varies. We do not rotate our treasurer; that can be an 8-year term. Leawood Group in Prairie Village (91st/Mission) doing well. Leavenworth Group decided to do rotations, but then found out that nobody wanted to sign up, so they did away with switching leaders. Olathe Group leaders switch in January and July (90- days with sponsor, or 1-year without a sponsor). Strong meeting support at all meetings. The meeting before and the meeting afterward are strong at all our meetings. Abilene Group we play pass the basket and if nobody is selected meeting leader, the person with the most sobriety picks who will lead the meeting (usually someone who needs a commitment). Humble Beginnings small group with six meetings a week. Leaders might stay for a year or more, until someone else steps up to lead the meeting. [Rosalinda read her resignation letter from the board of directors of Central Office.] We Agnostics Group [Another board member who resigned spoke on the reason why he resigned.] Basehor Group small group with six meetings a week. Meeting leaders volunteer and there has been no problem doing it that way. Honest Desire KCK doing well. It is a smoking meeting. March 3 Annual Chili-thon at We Are One Group (Their annual fundraiser). Next meetings: March 11, :30 p.m.at North Oak Group, 7125 N. Broadway, Gladstone, MO April 8, 2018 (Elections) 10:00 a.m. at Primary Purpose Group, 3038 N. 52nd St., Kansas City, KS Meeting adjourned at 11:45 a.m. Delegates 30 present Board Members 8 present. Donations: $95.35 reported by Teresa Respectfully submitted by Link S., Secretary. Corrections to January Meeting Minutes: Board voted against giving Christmas bonuses and voted for holding an appreciation dinner for the volunteers. The We Are One Group delegate and others agreed that information is the key to understanding. We need to know what committees/boards are doing or so we have sufficient information to help make decisions and to report back to our groups. There were no other corrections. Respectfully submitted by Link S., Secretary.
