1 AMSA Leadership Application Name Brandon Nguyen Position applying for Medical Regional Director: Region 2 1. Please highlight any relevant experiences, either in AMSA or other organizations, that qualify you for this position. A Regional Director needs to be able to work well with the local AMSA chapters and act as a liaison between them and the national officers. As President of my local Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine (OUWB) AMSA chapter, I have overseen eleven events this year alone including a knockerball tournament, a meditation and wellness event, and our Primary Care Week. One of my proudest and most successful events has been our Blood Bowl. The Blood Bowl is a blood drive competition between seven of Michigan s medical schools and AMSA chapters. The Blood Bowl is currently in its fifth year and last year I helped OUWB bring home the trophy. Planning this event required working with the Red Cross to set up and run a blood drive on our campus while simultaneously contacting and working with other AMSA chapters to set up their blood drive dates, organize a scoring system and sustaining communication between chapters. I have had ample experience in medical school working with local organizations and nearby chapters and I am confident that as a Regional Director I will be able to continue to provide a strong connection between chapters and the national office. 2. Please tell us what specifically interests you about this position,

2 and what you hope to accomplish in it. The Regional Director position interests me as it is both a familiar and challenging role. As a Regional Director, one of the largest roles is to address membership recruitment and engagement issues. They must also provide an avenue for each chapter to connect on the national scale. More than anything, the prospect of working intimately with each chapter in the region, getting to know its members, and helping to garner new membership to this wonderful organization is a thrilling aspect. Many chapters struggle with maintaining active and engaged national members and as a Regional Director my main goal would be to work with the national office and local chapters to establish sustained membership and provide a better means of communications between chapters. I will also strive to provide all of the resources and support necessary for Region II chapters to have a successful year and reach their annual goals. 3. Please list your responsibilities (academic, research, extracurricular) for the leadership year and how you plan to commit time to a role with AMSA. 3 rd year rotations Ongoing Radiation Oncology Research Cranbrook High School tutoring Transitioning into my 3 rd year of medical school will focus my main responsibilities to these three above commitments. My academic responsibilities will be the most time constricting commitment however I am confident that I will be able to provide the time, engery, and enthusiasm this Regional Director position will require. My research and tutoring are both very flexible and will be of no concern to the position. If needed, my work as a Regional Director will supplant any commitments apart from academics.
