With our new year upon us, I would like to thank all our officers, Aerie/Auxiliary and our trustees who have steered our club in the right direction this past year. Events for July/ August Monday July 1 The Asbury Eagles Auxiliary will be putting up the small flags around the Asbury Club campus after their meeting on July 1. Anyone wanting to help put up the small flags, please gather at the club at 8PM on July 1 The large flags ( around the community) will go up July 3 rd at 6:30 AM and will be taken down, July 4 th at 7:00 PM. If you wish to volunteer, contact the Asbury Eagles Club Steak Night July 11 August 8 Come and party on the patio. Steak Sandwiches and chips will be available to purchase for $5 from 5:30-8:30 p.m.. 3 Music in the Park July 13 The Asbury Eagles Club will be hosting a concession stand at Music in the Park. The Asbury Eagles Club will be selling Happy Joe s Pizza by the slice. Free Admission. No carry-ins. We will need volunteers to set up, take down and sell pizzas during the afternoon and evening. There will be sign- up sheets at the club for those interested in volunteering. We need volunteers to set up, sell pizzas ( 2 hour shifts) and tearing down at the end of the evening. 3
4 Catering Function Volunteers Needed Please sign-up at the club if you are interested in helping with upcoming banquet functions. We need help bartending (must be club qualified to bartend). Room rental fees: Non-members Large Room $200 Small Room $150 Both Rooms $300 Members (Initiated members) Large Room $100 Small Room $75 Both Rooms $ 150 Rooms must be cleaned up after event by renting group. News from the Installation of Officers Did you know that between May 2012 and May 2013, the Asbury Eagles Club donated $23, to charity? That is volunteers in action! The Asbury Eagles Club also awarded their two $500 scholarships to two Dubuque High School students. The members of the scholarship committee are Diane Boardman, Linda Ready, Marie Miller, Joe Small and Steve Ready. The decision to pick two deserving students was very difficult. Out of 22 scholarship applications submitted, one scholarship was awarded to Molly Denlinger, a student at Stephen Hempstead High School. Molly will be attending the University of Iowa and will be studying Nursing. The second scholarship was awarded to Elizabeth Wareham of Wahlert Catholic High School. Elizabeth will be attending Mt. Mercy and studying Elementary Education. Congratulations to Molly and Elizabeth and their families. Place Your Ad Here! Cleaning Help Needed Notice: There is a monthly cleaning sheet at the club if anyone would like to sign up to help clean the club for the month of May/ June. Mondays and Thursdays are preferred cleaning days. 4
5 Welcome New Members Auxiliary: Julie Roth, Shelley Van Sickle, Sarah Spires, Angie Heim, Jill Curry, Michelle Bahr, Rhonda O Meara News from the Joint - Aerie and Auxiliary Monies from Burger Night-City of Asbury $350 Money will be spend on the development of the new city park An update was given on the new park- plans for Splash pads, Hope to break ground in Spring of 2014 Music in the Park- July 13 th The Asbury Eagles Club will be selling Happy Joe s Pizza by the slice. We need volunteers to set up, sell pizzas and tear down at the end of the night. Asbury Eagles Club Golf Outing was a great success. Thanks to our Golf committee and volunteers $10,000 plus was raised. The Asbury Eagles Club donated $100 to the Dubuque Eagles Club for their Golf Outing Ideas for projects for the slow months of the summer are needed. One idea was to have Movie Nights at the Club- classic Adult movies (not X-rated) Popcorn and drink specials Stay tuned for further details This Father s Day breakfast was the largest breakfast Buffet yet. Profit of $1,300 Thanks to Pat Ready for getting some of the supplies donated and the volunteers who made the breakfast possible. 5
6 Ad Space Available We have room for a few more ads in our newsletter. If you are interested in placing your ad in the Eagles Club newsletter, please contact Kathy O Neill at woodnbear@aol.com or Pat Ready at prsr@mchsi.com. Renewable every January for $60 per year. Auxiliary Notes The Asbury Eagles Auxiliary s Mother s Day Basket was won by Shirley Ready. Proceeds from the basket went to Dupaco Relay for Life. The Combined total from the Valentine Baskets and the Mother s Day Basket was $ Rhonda O Meara and Michelle Bahr were initiated. The Auxiliary asked for volunteers to staff the Father s Day Breakfast Buffet, setting up, taking down and selling food for the June 29 th Rocking the Plaza, and setting up, taking down and selling pizzas for the July 13 th Asbury Music in the Park. In May, the Auxiliary donated $ each to the following charities Alzheimer's Fund Cancer Fund Diabetes Fund Kidney Fund Lew Reed Spinal Cord Fund Heart Fund Jimmy Durrante Children's Fund The Auxiliary also donated $5 per member to the Diabetes Research Center.
