Delicious lunches are served by Fred on Tuesday through Saturday from Noon to 2:30 PM. Please come and support his efforts and enjoy the savory daily lunches and weekly specials and just plain fun. The Club is open on Monday from Noon until?? (Happy Hour all day Monday!) Please Note: Euchre night will resume play the first Tuesday after Labor Day. Line Dancing every Thursday at 6:30 PM. Please remember to carry your valid Eagles Membership Card at all times. DISTRICT #6 MEETING The June 2014 District #6 Meeting has been scheduled for Sunday, June 8 th at Battle Creek. Our monthly REAC meeting will be at Noon on Tuesday, June 10 th at Mar Jo s West, 325 N. Grand St., Schoolcraft. R.E.A.C stands for Retired Eagles Activity Club. Any Aerie or Auxiliary member over 55 and retired can join R.E.A.C. The annual membership fee is $5.00. Come visit any second Tuesday of the month and become a member.
2 BUD ISRAELS SCHOLARSHIP FUND Applications are being accepted for the 2014 Bud Israels Memorial Scholarship. The deadline for applications is June 30th. The Scholarship Committee will award a scholarship to an area high school graduate (graduates). Any interested high school senior can apply, if they meet the following criteria: 1. Must have a GPA of 2.5 or better and provide a High School Transcript. 2. Must have a letter of acceptance to a college, university or technical school. 3. Must be a child or grandchild of a F.O.E. #3531 member, who has been a member in good standing for a minimum of two years. Completed applications should be sent to : Marsha Clapp, 5804 East QR Avenue, Scotts, Michigan 49088, or left at the Club, Attention: Marsha Clapp. Applications may be obtained at the Club or on the Website, A reminder to our members, anyone can make a donation or memorial contribution on behalf of loved ones at anytime, to be used as part of the Bud Israels Scholarship Fund. All donations are greatly appreciated, as we plan to continue with our scholarship efforts for years to come. ELECTION OF OFFICERS FOR The term begins June 1, Nominations for both Aerie and Auxiliary have been completed at the April Meetings. No election will be necessary. 3 EAGLE RIDERS CLUB The meetings for this group are the 3 rd Monday of each month at 6:30 PM at the Club. The Monthly Meeting will be held on Monday, June 16 th. Our first scheduled ride for our bikers is Saturday, June 7 th. Registration at Noon and kick stands up at 1:00 PM. This will be approximately a 100 mile ride! Cost is $15.00 per bike and an extra $5.00 for an additional rider. Riders will return to the Club around 6:00 PM. Food will be served at this time. On Saturday, June 28 th, the Eagle Riders will be at Milwood Little League at 9:00 AM to help Challenger s Little League participants with batting, running bases, and any thing else that we can do to help the children accomplish during their ballgame. There will be two more handicap parking places at the side of the building. The Eagle Riders purchased the signs and Bill DeYoung will install them as soon as possible. TUESDAY NIGHT BURGER COOKS We are still looking for volunteers to help out on Tuesday Hamburger Nights. If you would be interested in cooking Hamburgers on Tuesday evenings, please contact Sue Kean at (269) or talk with her at the Club for details. We need your help! Our Tuesday Night Hamburgers are served from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Tuesday nights continue to be our Bike Nights. We are off to a slow start, due to inclement weather. The Riders are looking forward to better weather to increase our participation. Bike Nights are open to the public and are coordinated, so that everyone can enjoy the Auxiliary Burger Night. So, please join us on the patio for burgers and good fellowship. We are looking forward to a fun and safe bike season. Thank you again for all your support for our charity: Challenger s Little League Please Note: Planning stages are in the works for Christmas in July on Saturday the 12 th. The Riders will be in charge of the games. This sounds like a fun day and details will appear in the July Newsletter. We would appreciate any white elephants, which you could donate to the cause. Please bring them to the Club and leave them with Bill DeYoung, Bruce Stockwell, Harry Thomas or Sue Kean. Thank You! 3 KENTUCKY DERBY DAY Our third annual Kentucky Derby Day was held on May 3 rd. Festivities included a Hat Contest and an Appetizer Contest. Prizes were awarded for best Hats and best Appetizers. The Winners are as follows: The winner of the Hat Contest was Joyce Carnes and the winner of the Appetizer Contest was Carol Davidson. Special Thanks to Sue Kean who organized this project. A great time was had by all! INDY 500 PARTY Congratulations! Our Indy 500 Party was a great success. Thanks to all who attended this event.
4 MOTHER AND DAUGHTER BANQUET INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION Our annual Mother and Daughter Banquet was held on May 8 th. A big Thank You to Dennis Patterson and all the Aerie men, who helped Dennis prepare the dinner, decorate, serve, wait tables, wash dishes, and clean up. They provided the mothers and daughters with a wonderful meal and great evening. A Special Thank You to Dennis Patterson for providing the dinner music and helping with the theme and decorations. The men really went way beyond the call and their efforts are very much appreciated. Again, Thank You one and all for a great evening! The new Mother of the Year for 2014/15 is Carol Davidson. Congratulations! UPCOMING EVENTS FATHER AND SON BANQUET The Annual Father and Son Banquet will be held on Thursday, June 12 th. The cost is $5.00 per person. Cocktails at 6:00 PM and Dinner will be served at 7:00 PM. This banquet is open to fathers, sons, grandfathers, and grandsons. One person in the group must be a member in good standing. The Deadline for sign-up is Saturday, June 8 th. No Exceptions!! CHRISTMAS IN JULY Get ready for it: Christmas in July! Lots of fun and the public is welcome. Put it on your calendar Saturday, July 12 th! Specialty food outdoors by Red s Grill, Games, Prizes, Poker Runs, Arts & Crafts, Dance Contest, and two bands will be playing for your pleasure from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 7:00 to 11:00 PM. Watch for further details in the July Newsletter. 4 The Club will be open on Friday, July 4 th, to celebrate Independence Day. Food will be available from Noon to 4:00 PM. Come down to Schoolcraft and enjoy the Great Parade and then join us at the Club for an afternoon of food and fun with fellow members. ANNUAL CLASSIC AUTOMOBILE AND MOTORCYCLE SHOW The Annual Classic Automobile and Motorcycle Show is to be held at the Club on Saturday, June 21 st. The Nicky Platinum Band will be playing! The events for the day are as follows: Vehicle Registration: 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM Registration Fee: $10.00 Judging of Entries: 11:00 AM to 3:30 PM Trophy Presentation: 5:00 PM Live Music Starts at 6:00 PM All proceeds from this special event will be directed to: Hospice of Southwest Michigan. We will have Door Prizes, Raffle Drawings, and Food on the Patio. This event is open to the Public (Rain or Shine). Please join us for a fun-filled day! Please Note: Volunteers are needed for this event. If you are interested in helping, there is a sign-up sheet posted on the Bulletin Board and at the Bar. Please donate your time to this great cause.
5 BUD ISRAELS SCHOLARSHIP FUND GOLF OUTING Mark your calendar and plan to join us for the 2014 Scholarship Fund Golf Outing. The date is Saturday, August 2 nd. FRIDAY NIGHT DINNERS Our Friday Night Dinners are served from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM This will be a 9-hole outing at States Golf Course. A sign up sheet will be available late in June. At this writing, the cost and tee time for the outing have not been established. This information will be posted in the July Newsletter. Proceeds from this event will be deposited into the Scholarship Fund account to be awarded to member family graduates. The 2014 scholarship recipient (s) will be announced and scholarships awarded that day following the outing. RAISE THE ROOF FUNDRAISER PARTY On Saturday, August 23rd, the final Raise the Roof Fundraiser Party of the year will be held. There will be music all day, Karaoke, Raffles, 50/50 s, Door Prizes, and Dance Contest. The Douglas James Band will play from 7:00 to 11:00 PM. We are planning a bonfire at dusk on the patio; weather permitting. This fun event is open to the public. GOLDEN EAGLE REQUIREMENTS If you meet the following requirements for Golden Eagle status, then please send Phil Clapp a letter: 1. You have attained the age of You have been a Member in Good Standing for 30 consecutive years. 3. You are retired and drawing a pension or equivalent. 4. Phil Clapp must have your birth date on file in the Grand Aerie system.
