1 FALL 2014 FIRST BUSINESS MEETING Please be sure to attend the first Bay Colony business meeting of the year on Thursday, January 22, The BCPOA board for 2015 will be elected and officers will be chosen. Board member nominations were made at the November 19 th, 2014 meeting. Anyone interested in participating and volunteering for the 2015 board please attend the meeting, or contact Evelyn Griggs at NEWSLETTER DISTRIBUTION The Fall newsletter issue is printed and mailed. All other newsletter issues are delivered via and also available (in color!) on the Bay Colony web site ( If you are not getting messages about the publishing of the newsletter, and other important Bay Colony meetings and events, please check that your current is listed on our web site, or contact Patrick Roehl, our webmaster, at webmaster@mybaycolony.org. Also please check that your address and phone information is up to date. Patrick Roehl to make any corrections, changes or additions. Anyone without access, please contact Pat BCPOA Business Meeting Guest Speaker - TBA Thursday January 22nd 7:30 pm Palmetto Point Civic Center rd Street Blvd W GIRLS NIGHT OUT Attention ladies of Bay Colony. The first Wednesday of every month is Girls Night Out and we meet at various locations at 6:00 pm. Contact Barb Kunkel at if you are unsure of the location. Always confirm your attendance with her at barb5kunkel3@yahoo.com for reservation sitting. Barb will be arranging with each restaurant to have adequate tables and seating for our group before we arrive. Girls Night Out (GNO) was started in September of this year and the occasions were well attended with about fourteen ladies joining together for conversation, laughs, dinner and drinks. A good time was had by all! Many thanks to Barb for organizing this event and communicating all of the details with everyone. She has done a great job and that is probably why the event has been so well attended. A NEW HOME FOUND Some of you will remember, or perhaps you might have heard from your neighbors that Christine and Richard Meier rescued a dog from a Bay Colony canal. They brought the dog to the Bay Colony meeting hoping to gather information that might help them locate the pet s owner. But, alas, after a period of time, and plenty of flyers and door to door inquiries, the dog s owner was not located. There is a happy ending to the story. Tony and Pat Walker adopted the dog who is named Max. He has been very happy in his new home which is evident by the perpetual wagging tail. Kudos to Christine and Richard for fishing Max out of the water, and to Pat and Tony for the adoption! The Bay Colony Property Owners Association mission is to safeguard the quality of life in our waterfront community, promote and advance causes that concern our property, and sponsor social and educational activities to encourage a cohesive and friendly neighborhood.
2 NEIGHBORHOOD SAFETY AND CRIME One of the most common occurring crimes is vehicle burglaries and thefts. Here are some suggestions to use in an effort to reduce these offenses: never leave the keys in your vehicle, always lock the doors, even when you are away from the vehicle for a short time; remove items (purses, tapes, CD's, books, cash, etc.) from the vehicle when possible; if you can't take them out, put them in a place that is out of view (in the trunk or tool box); park in lighted areas; park in garages or on driveways or near your house or apartment so that the vehicle can be viewed periodically. CITIZENS LAW ENFORCEMENT ACADEMY The Manatee County Sherriff s Department run the Citizens Academy program twice per year, beginning in March & September. Classes run for 11 weeks & are held on Mondays. Contact Deputy Bruce Meade at Ext to sign up. This academy is very popular and space fills up fast.
