Introduction Dear Friends and Associates: In 2011, Post celebrated its 40 th Anniversary. This milestone year also marked the first time in company history that we ve closed all offices in all markets on one day to allow our 600 associates to participate in local service projects. Together, they worked on 14 different service projects, spread over 9 markets. As we ve said so many times, serving others is what we do... but in 2011, our associates took our culture of service to a new level that touched many lives and had such fun doing it. But that s not all... last year our associates held golf tournaments, bowling tournaments, and other fundraising events, enabling Post HOPE to donate to more than 55 different charities, making an impact across many areas and in many humanitarian organizations. At Post, we re not only grateful for the opportunity to give through Post HOPE, but also grateful for associates who have such a huge heart for giving! 1 David P. Landscaping and repairing facilities at Covenant House, a shelter for homeless youth. Sorting and packing food for distribution as well as working in the community garden at the Atlanta Community Food Bank. Preparing meals for the Meals on Wheels program at Senior Connections. Helping with building maintenance and assisting developmentally disabled children at the Elaine Clark Center. Working as a part of the Piedmont Park Clean and Green Team.
Atlanta Prep. Academy The KaBOOM project was awesome. I enjoyed every minute. And I had tears in my eyes after the ribbon cutting. 5
Covenant House Being able to work side-by-side with the people who call Covenant House home was very rewarding. I left that afternoon with a feeling of accomplishment. 6
Atlanta Community Food Bank We had an amazing time at the Atlanta Community Food Bank! We were tired and sore but felt like we really made a difference. We provided meals for 13,000 families! 7
Senior Connections We definitely had some GREAT teamwork while we prepared and packaged over 1,700 meals for seniors. Such a great experience for everyone we can t wait until next year to do it again. 8
Elaine Clark Center We had a wonderful day! The kids loved the fall carnival with the wagon rides, bean bag toss, ice cream, bubble room, and pumpkin painting. 9
Piedmont Park We loved working outside at Piedmont Park (even in the rain) and felt such pride at what we accomplished together. 10
Austin Capital Area Food Bank Yesterday was a great day in Austin! At the end of the day, we packaged and stocked more than 14,000 pounds of food, which equaled about 11,500 meals. 11 In Austin, 15 associates sorted and packed food at the Capital Area Food Bank, a non-profit organization that provides food and grocery products to more than 300 Partner Agencies in 21 Central Texas counties.
Charlotte Habitat for Humanity We started a new tradition in Charlotte on October 13, Our amazing volunteers worked in hard hats in gloomy weather to brighten the lives of others. 12 In Charlotte, 30 associates assisted with a home build and renovation through Habitat for Humanity. Founded in 1976, Habitat for Humanity seeks to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness from the world and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action.
Dallas 13 In Dallas, 100 associates spent a day of service at Promise House, a non-profit organization that embraces homeless, runaway and at-risk teens. There were teams of Post volunteers assigned to different buildings and projects. At Wesley Inn, volunteers rebuilt the back porch, power-washed the outside, raked leaves and cut down vines, re-grouted the bathroom, and built a custom swing for the front porch. They even cooked dinner for the girls. In the Main Building, volunteers repainted the stairwells in bright new colors, cleaned the pantries in the kitchen and storage closets, checked air vents, swept floors, and planned activities for the kids decorating pumpkins, playing Halloween bingo, and making fruit smoothies. In the Yellow Building, volunteers painted the conference room and put new hardware on the cabinets. They also installed new light fixtures on the outside of the building and organized the storage building for easier access. Post provided lunch for the volunteers as well as more than 25 Promise House employees and more than 30 students, children and teens.
Promise House Working at Promise House was more awesome than I can put into words. We want to do this every year! 14
Houston Park Manor Everyone had a great time at the nursing home! At the end of the day, we enjoyed working in the community and really making a difference in their day. In Houston, 25 associates worked on maintenance projects and led social activities for residents at the Park Manor Westchase, a skilled nursing and rehabilitation home. 15
New York Yorkville Common Pantry Everyone did such a great job at the Yorkville Common Pantry, and it was a very rewarding experience. We really loved handing out bags of food to people who needed it. 16 In New York, 15 associates sorted food and helped prepare three-day bags of groceries at the Yorkville Common Pantry (YCP) in Harlem. The YCP provides food pantry and meal distribution programs, nutrition education, basic hygiene services, homeless support and related services.
Orlando BETA Center We transformed the main housing area of the shelter into a home. Everyone in the house loved the new look, and the appreciation was clearly shown on these young mothers faces. 17 In Orlando, 15 associates refurbished a home for teen mothers at BETA Center, a non-profit organization that provides children and parents with the knowledge and support needed for strong and healthy families.
Tampa Hope Children s Home I felt like I accomplished so much today everything from clearing brush to installing a fence. It makes me proud to say that I work for Post. 18 In Tampa, 50 associates assisted with building a Cottage of Hope for orphaned and abused children at Hope Children s Home, an organization that has been helping abused, unwanted or orphaned children for more than 40 years.
Washington, DC Area Operation Homefront We were 65 strong as we helped out at the new Wounded Warrior Barracks at Ft. Belvoir working to provide a place that says Welcome Home to our wounded service members. 19 In the Greater Washington, DC area, 75 associates worked alongside service men and women to set up the new barracks for wounded service members at Fort Belvoir. This project was facilitated through Operation Homefront DC Metro, a non-profit organization that provides emergency financial and other assistance to the families of service members.
Fundraisers 20 Atlanta: Strokes for Hope Atlanta s First Annual Strokes for Hope Golf Tournament was held on October 3 at The Golf Club at Bradshaw Farms in Woodstock, Georgia. Thanks to overwhelming support from tournament players, sponsors, donors, and Post residents and associates, we were able to donate $64,000 to the Atlanta Community Food Bank (ACFB). Founded in 1979, the ACFB distributes nearly two million pounds of food and other grocery items each month to more than 700 nonprofit partner agencies in Metro Atlanta and North Georgia. For every $1 donation, the Food Bank is able to distribute over $7 worth of food products back into the community.
Fundraisers 21 Charlotte: Strikes for Hope Post Apartment Homes in Charlotte, on behalf of the, held their Third Annual Strikes for Hope Bowl-A-Thon on May 15. Fifteen bowlers participated in the event, which raised $5,286 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The Make-A-Wish Foundation grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions in order to bring hope, strength, and joy into their lives. A wish come true for a child creates an indomitable spirit to help sustain him or her through extremely difficult times.
Fundraisers 22 Dallas: Strokes for Hope The Dallas market hosted its 10 th Annual Strokes for Hope Golf Tournament on October 10. Proceeds from the tournament benefited Promise House and CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) of Collin County. Promise House provides shelter and support to homeless, runaway, and at-risk teens in the Dallas area. CASA of Collin County trains volunteers to be advocates on behalf of abused and neglected children involved in the court systems. Through the Strokes for Hope tournament, we were able to donate $65,000 to support those two organizations.
Fundraisers 23 Greater DC Area: Strokes for Hope The Second Annual Strokes for Hope Charity Golf Tournament was held on April 29 at the Reston National Golf Course. Presented by Post Apartment Homes in the Greater DC Area and the, and hosted by former Washington Redskin Roy Jefferson, this event benefited Operation Homefront DC Metro. Operation Homefront provides emergency financial and other assistance to the families of U.S. service members and wounded warriors. Since its inception in 2002, Operation Homefront has provided more than $92 million in funding to programs that benefit military families. Thanks to overwhelming support from tournament players, sponsors, donors, and Post residents and associates, we were able to donate $27,000 to the DC Metro chapter of Operation Homefront.
Fundraisers 24 Orlando: Strikes for Hope On May 22, Post Apartment Homes in Orlando and the held their Second Annual Strikes for Hope Bowl-A-Thon. Approximately 60 vendors and residents participated in this event, which raised $4,000 to benefit Bags of Hope Central Florida (BOHCFL). BOHCFL provides bags of necessities to restore hope to the approximately 10,000 homeless children and families living in Central Florida. In addition, BOHCFL has developed the Feed and Read Program, which aims to benefit children who are homeless, severely impoverished, and suffering from daily hunger. Each Friday, Feed and Read volunteers bring care packages full of food and books to these children in Seminole County Schools, which both lifts their spirits and encourages their continued academic growth and literacy. The goal of the Feed and Read Program is to empower children who are living in circumstances beyond their control to focus their attention on their education, in order to end the cycle of poverty and change their futures.
