Why is independence important? Independence is about learning to do things for yourself, which includes making decisions and taking on responsibility. These are hugely important life skills for children to learn. When independence grows a child's confidence also grows. As children master new skills or take on some responsibility, they begin to see themselves as being capable. This gives them added confidence and makes them more likely to try out new things. Learning life skills will also help a child's physical development, particularly their hand-eye co-ordination. Many everyday tasks, such as hanging up clothes, pouring out drinks and tidying away toys, all involve using physical co-ordination and make an excellent foundation for later skills such as handwriting and drawing. This session will provide practical ideas about the opportunities you can provide so children can play, explore and learn independently. Showing how to make good records that will help staff make improvements to their work or gather evidence securely for a disciplinary hearing. Find out how to avoid tribunal pitfalls and if the need arises to discipline staff. Find out about tried and tested ways to improve staff s work and keep a really good managerial overview in place. This is one of my most popular courses with owners using it for new managers of varying levels time and time again. The outcome will be a huge improvement in the manner by which staff are supervised; a secure method to gather evidence for disciplinary and will enable owners to regain their ability to manage staff in a way that extols your values and vision for your setting! Staff should become more accountable for their own work and will be able to see quickly what their successes have been and where you are guiding them to learn. It gives both good managerial training but in a very practical easy to follow manner, course content includes: The purpose of supervision Confidentiality rules of supervision Meeting the regulations The manager s toolkit Styles of conflict Focus for inspection A practical session Using supervision forms Writing actions Appraisals Vital training for all providers who must meet the requirements of the EYFS Owners/Managers, Childminders, PVI setting Managers and Deputies, Out of School Clubs Debbie Alcock, author, Managing Director of Influential Child Care Training, Lead for London for National Early Years s and Consultants, writer for Nursery World Leadership and Management All LBR settings External and Childminding Agency Thursday 15 th March am to 3.00pm Redbridge Teachers Centre 22
