Half of the world s populaton, over two bllon people, lves on less than $2.00 a day and 21,000 chldren de each day due to poverty, hunger, and easly preventable dseases. GFWC encourages our clubs to reach beyond ther own communtes to the global communty to make a lastng dfference n the lves of chldren, ther famles, and communtes. The GFWC Internatonal Outreach Communty Servce Program s desgned to enable members to become better world ctzens through advocacy, educaton, and acton, whch wll, n turn, affect change n and for our global frends and ther communtes. In most cases, GFWC members cannot be physcally present to assst and make changes n countres around the world; however, members can be assured the donatons made through our partnershp agences are reachng those n the greatest need. There are countless ways to support global development and make a lastng dfference. Consder rasng cultural awareness; celebratng ethnctes; conductng fundrasng actvtes to support healthy chld development; advocatng for basc human needs such as food, water, clothng, and educaton; and promotng self-suffcency INTERNATIONAL OUTREACH COMMUNITY SERVICE PROGRAM Janet Trombett, Charman 133 Gordon Street Cranston, RI Janet.trombett@gmal.com GFWC COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECTS GFWC Communty Servce Projects are projects that members ntate and partcpate n to serve ther communtes they do not nclude projects that relate to GFWC partners. These projects are specfcally related to the Internatonal Outreach Communty Servce Program and may nvolve other members of the communty, other organzatons, or the ndvdual club or members. COLLECTION OF CORRECTIVE GLASSES FOR MEDICAL MISSION TRIPS Walhalla Woman s Club (SC) members asssted a communty member wth her medcal msson trps to Eastern Europe, Afrca, and Central Amerca by collectng used reader and prescrpton glasses from ther members, frends, and neghbors. The club recruted local churches and other local cvc groups to partcpate n the project. As a result 976 pars of glasses were donated, assstng people on three dfferent contnents to be able to see well enough to read.

2 CLUB MANUAL TRAVELING TUTUS GFWC New Tampa Jr. Woman s Club (FL) collects and dstrbutes gently used dance attre to underprvleged chldren around the world. Club members cut tulle nto strps and attached them to a pece of elastc n a varety of szes and colors. The new tutus were delvered along wth gently used dance wear and a cash donaton to Travelng Tutu s. It s sad there are shortcuts to happness and dancng s one of them. Lttle grls across the globe are enjoyng ther pretty tutus. BOTTLE AUCTION The Junor Woman s Club of Woodstown (NJ), wth 21 members, held a bottle aucton. Members donate a wrapped bottle, whch can contan anythng. The bottles are then auctoned off and the wnner opens the bottle for all to see. There are always some crazy tems such as dsh soap or shampoo that provde plenty of laughs. An easy fundraser provdng fun for the members, the event brought n over a $120 at one meetng. HOSPITALITY FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS A project n ther own backyard gave the Vllage Improvement Assocates of Rehoboth Beach (DE) an opportunty to work wth nternatonal students n ther communty. Memoral Day to Labor Day members work to create a safe and hosptable communty for the students workng at local busnesses n the summer. Members offer meals, transportaton, emergency assstance, and fellowshp. Members volunteered one nght a week from May to September to prepare and serve meals wth other servce groups to these students. IDEAS Program deas are endless. Below s a lst of deas on how clubs may support the Internatonal Outreach Communty Servce Program. Help chldren all over the world by fundng lfe-savng vaccnes. Partcpate n nternatonal cultural exchanges. Educate your club and communty about major ssues and challenges facng people n developng countres. Support the development of healthy and sustanable communtes around the world. Ensure chldren have access to health, educaton, equalty, and protecton. Provde support and encourage growth and sustanablty by donatng gfts such as lvestock to famles n need. Educate members about Unted Natons programs concernng women and chldren. Promote legslaton n support of human rghts around the world. Provde members wth drect servce opportuntes for persons n developng countres through our program partners. Help ensure that chldren and famles have access to clean water by provdng wells. 2

FUNDRAISING IDEAS Sponsor a Local Read to Feed Program: What s Read to Feed? Read to Feed s Hefer Internatonal s unque readng ncentve program. Schoolchldren from pre-kndergarten through 6th grade enlst sponsors to pledge a donaton for each book read or hour spent readng. At the end of the program, the students pool n all the funds rased from readng to donate to Hefer Internatonal. Your club can help a chld make a dfference by sponsorng a local school Read to Feed program! Aucton wth Hefer Anmals: Aucton off all the dfferent Hefer anmals! Ths way your club can focus on the purpose and detals of the event, rather than procurng tems. Your club can get an auctoneer, food, drnks, and buld a great atmosphere of fun and support. 3

Operaton Smle s the largest volunteer-based medcal charty provdng free cleft surgeres. A chld s cleft lp or cleft palate can be repared for as lttle as $240 and n as few as 45 mnutes, but t s more than a surgery. Your support gves renewed hope to chldren and famles around the world. GFWC and the U.S. Fund for UNICEF s newest partnershp focuses on the End Traffckng project. Ths s the U.S. Fund for UNICEF s ntatve to rase awareness about chld traffckng whch moblzes communtes to take meanngful acton to help protect chldren domestcally and nternatonally. Here s what YOU can do: Host a fundraser along wth the a screenng of Not My Lfe, a flm portrayng the nhumane practces of human traffckng and modern day slavery whle facltatng a dscusson (Please contact Mans Mehta for an End Traffckng fundrasng tool kt and for a copy of the documentary) Learn the sgns of human traffckng, and report a potental case to the Natonal Human Traffckng Hotlne. Each State Federaton may submt one State Award Entry Cover Sheet and one Club Creatvty Award Entry Cover Sheet for the Internatonal Outreach Communty Servce Program projects.
