Asprng gymnasts need not be current members of Gymnastcs Mssssauga. The mnmum age for entrance nto the Gymnastcs Mssssauga Pre-Compettve/Compettve Program s four (4) years of age by December 31, Smple apttude testng actvtes help us evaluate attrbutes such as flexblty, strength, co-ordnaton, balance, lstenng ablty and tenacty. 4 - COMPETITIVE PROGRAM OVERVIEW - HOW TO REGISTER FOR COMPETITIVE GYMNASTICS STEP 1: Emal Compettve Program Admnstrator/Head Coach to schedule a tryout/assessment for the dscplne of your choce (WAG, MAG, Academy, STEP 2: Upon havng a successful tryout, you wll receve a Regstraton Package to be completed. REGISTRATION FORM REGISTRATIONFORM REGISTRATIONFORM STEP 3: Once payment and completed forms are receved, you wll receve a tranng schedule from the Head Coach. 5 - COMPETITIVE DISCIPLINES - COMPETITIVE SEASONS July 1, 2015 to June 30, 2016 Men s Artstc Gymnastcs (MAG) Artstc gymnastcs focuses on the techncal aspects of gymnastcs by ncorporatng varous apparatus n short routnes (lastng anywhere between seconds). MAG perform routnes on floor, pommel horse, vault, parallel bars, hgh bars, and stll rngs. Pre-Compettve Munchkns Ages hours Ths program s a buldng block for the young gymnast lookng to move forward wth tme. Sklls and abltes are developed n a safe and postve atmosphere. There s an emphass on developng the chld s strength, flexblty, aglty, and overall body coordnaton. Who s accepted? Boys ages 5-8. Potental to attend a fun competton. What are the tranng optons? Athletes wll tran 2 hours per day, 3x a week. INTERCLUB /INVITATIONAL COMPETITIVE Ages 8 & up 9-12 hours Ths program develops the athlete s sklls and abltes. There s an emphass on developng strength, flexblty, coordnaton, and skll development n order to prepare for compettons. Who s accepted? Boys ages 8 and up. Athletes are between levels 1-4, and wll compete 3 tmes a year. What are the tranng optons? Athletes wll tran 3 hours per day (3x a week), or 4 hours per day (3x a week). PROVINCIAL & NATIONAL COMPETITIVE Ages 9 & up hours Ths program develops the athlete s sklls and abltes. It s much more hgh ntensty, and requres more dedcaton and tme commtments. Who s accepted? Boys ages 9 and up. Athletes are between levels 1-4, GCG Level 5, or Elte Level 3/4. They wll compete at 3 qualfers, Provncal Champonshps (f qualfed, and after attendng a mnmum of two qualfers), and select other compettons (.e. Eastern Champonshp, Tour Selecton & Natonal Champonshps), based on age, level and team selecton. What are the tranng optons? Provncal athletes wll tran 4-5 hours per day, 4-5x a week & Natonal athletes wll tran 5 hours per day, 4-6x a week. 5

WAG perform routnes on vault, floor, uneven bars, and balance beam. Pre-Compettve Munchkns Ages 5-9 6, 9, 12, 16, 20 hours Ths program develops the athlete s sklls and abltes. The ftness level of the athlete s determned through measures of ther strength, flexblty, coordnaton and skll development. The Pre-Compettve Program s also desgned and based on the Ontaro Development Program (ODP), whch focuses on strength, flexblty, and overall body postonng. Who s accepted? Grls ages 5-9. The athlete s age and ablty wll determne the level (1-4 n the Ontaro Compettve Program OCP) and amount of compettons (3-5 tmes a year). What are the tranng optons? Athletes wll tran 2 hours per day (3x a week), 4 hours per day (3x a week), 4 hours per day (4x a week), or 4 hours per day (5x a week). 7 - COMPETITIVE DISCIPLINES - Acrobatc Gymnastcs (ACRO) Acrobatc Gymnastcs s a compettve gymnastcs dscplne where partnershps of gymnasts work together and perform routnes. Ths dscplne uses the floor and trampolne for tranng. Athletes practce and compete n the followng: Men s Pars, Women s Pars, Mxed Pars, Women s Group, and Men s Group. At Levels 5-7, pars and groups perform one combned exercse. The combned exercse contans elements of balance (statc holds), dynamc elements (wth flght), and ndvdual elements (choreography and tumblng elements). Pre-Compettve Ages hours Follows an ndvdual routne, whch they wll demo at 2-3 compettons a year. An ndvdual routne conssts of 11 smple sklls that the athlete needs to complete n one lne. Athletes also start to work n pars/groups to get a feel of what t wll be lke when they are of age to compete n a par/group. Who s accepted/what are the tranng optons? Athletes ages 4-7 wll tran 3 hours per day, 3x a week. COMPETITIVE PROVINCIAL STREAM Ages Categorzed, Level 5, 6 & hours Athletes at ths pont compete n ther level and age category wth one or 2 partners. Each level has 8-13 requred sklls that each par/ group needs to complete n ther routne. Athletes work towards the Natonal stream. Who s accepted/what are the tranng optons? Athletes ages 7 and up wll tran 3-4 hours per day, 4x a week. COMPETITIVE NATIONAL STREAM Ages 7 & up 20 hours Natonal stream s an nternatonal level. Athletes at ths pont wll be travellng and are elgble to compete at the world champonshps. In each category, there may be a 5 year dfference between the top and the base. Who s accepted/what are the tranng optons? Athletes n age groups 11-16, & wll tran 4-5 hours per day, 5x a week. 7

8 - COMPETITIVE DISCIPLINES / FEES - Academy Program (NEW!) The Academy program n Gymnastcs s geared towards the Recreatonal enthusast who would lke to partcpate n a more structured and frequent program. It allows for partcpants to enroll n sessons once or twce weekly for a 3 hour nterval per sesson. Gymnasts wll be able to experence all types of tranng and dscplnes, ncludng acrobatcs, trampolne, and tumblng, along wth artstc gymnastcs. The classes wll be taught by hgher level Recreatonal Coaches, and lower level Compettve Coaches. ACADEMY PROGRAM Ages 6 & up 3-6 hours Who s accepted? Athletes ages 6 and up, wth a prerequste of at least one term n the Recreatonal program at Gymnastcs Mssssauga or proof of attendance n a smlar program at another gym. What are the tranng optons? 3 hours (1x a week) and 6 hours (2x a week). $ FEES Once selected nto the program, your athlete s placed nto a group based on factors that nclude age, ablty and skll level. Every gymnast s carefully placed nto a group where, n the opnon of the Head Coaches, they wll be challenged wthout feelng overwhelmed and wll be n the best poston to attan success. The fees are based on the number of hours that he/she trans. Each group wll tran the desgnated number of hours for that partcular group wherever possble. The club retans the rght to cancel tranng when requred. Ths s to be approved by the Executve Drector and Head Coach of each dscplne. Gymnastcs Mssssauga wll keep n mnd the best nterests of the chld as far as the athlete beng prepared to hs/her best ablty for upcomng compettons. Important nformaton: As gymnasts progress n ther development, the number of tranng hours may ncrease to further develop ther sklls and decrease the rsk of njury. The more advanced sklls requre adequate body condtonng and physcal preparaton. As such, a seven year old gymnast may tran up to 20 hours per week and the accomplshed Hgh Performance level gymnasts (10+ years) may tran up to 29.5 hours per week. 8

9 - CLUB UNIFORM - CLUB UNIFORM The club unform ncludng a track sut s mandatory attre for gymnasts at all club sanctoned compettons, demonstratons or nvtatonal meets. The cost for the club unform s the sole responsblty of the famly and must be pad on tme. It s also the responsblty of the famly to drectly contact the club approved unform suppler for all gymnastcs gear, unforms, and clothng artcles. For the season, tranng leotards are mandatory for the WAG Program. The style and colour are at the dscreton of the Head Coach of the program, Executve Drector, and the Board of Drectors. Tranng unforms for our MAG and WAG programs wll be determned at a later date. Compettve Leotard WAG Gym Bag & Flp Flops Track Sut Boys Compettve Snglet, Shorts & Pants Boys Tranng Sut Famles wll be emaled nformaton regardng unform orderng procedures once regstraton s submtted and complete. ATTIRE AND APPEARANCE FOR TRAINING Grls should wear a gym sut and boys should wear a snglet and shorts. A body-huggng turtleneck may be worn on cold days. No jewelry or watches should be worn, as ths can consttute a safety hazard for spottng. Har must be neatly ted up and out of the face. If the har s ted up and t stll reaches collar length, t should be looped up agan. 9

10 - CHOREOGRAPHY / POLICIES - CHOREOGRAPHY Choreography for floor routnes n the Women's Program (WAG) and Acrobatc Program (ACRO) are not ncluded n your club fees. For WAG, after consultng wth the Head Coach, your chld's coach wll contact you n order to facltate schedulng and payment for choreography servces f your daughter requres a new floor routne. Payments must be made n advance through the man offce. Schedulng of choreography routnes wll take place before or after regular tranng hours, not durng. INJURY POLICY In the event of an njury that requres a modfcaton or lmtaton to your athlete's tranng schedule; we requre a qualfed medcal dagnoss. Once a gymnast or parent communcates an ssue, we mmedately request a dagnoss from a medcal practtoner and modfy or halt tranng untl such tme as ths has been done. We ask that medcal follow up be done as promptly as possble and that results are relayed to the coachng staff along wth a rehabltaton plan. For extensve njures requrng a longer rehabltaton tme, we reserve the rght to request a wrtten rehabltaton program from your medcal practtoner. We wll not allow athletes to resume full tranng untl a proper dagnoss has been made and a rehabltaton plan s n place. A plan to return to tranng should be dscussed drectly wth the Head Coach as soon as possble upon dagnoss. Please keep your coach nformed of any changes to the plan as your athlete's njury heals. Although tapng and bracng may be used for support whle an njury/alment heals, long term use ultmately weakens the affected area. Extended tme off s NOT an approprate course of acton. Even when extended rehabltaton s requred, athletes most often beneft by comng to practce on modfed tranng. However, ths s dependng on a varety of factors and s not always the case. VOLUNTEER HOURS Each famly (MAG, WAG & ACRO) wll be expected to contrbute volunteer hours. Hours must be reported monthly. MEET HOURS Famles whose athletes tran 8 hours or more are requred to work 2 shfts (approxmately 5 hours/shft) at each meet. Famles whose athletes tran at 6 hours are requred to work 1 shft, and famles whose athletes tran 3 hours are NOT REQUIRED to work any meet shfts, although your help s always apprecated! 10

11 - GENERAL GUIDELINES -! GENERAL GUIDELINES DOOR LOCK PROTOCOL For the safety and securty of all our gymnasts and athletes, a securty door has been nstalled wthn the faclty. The gym can only be accessed by staff members wth securty cards, and athletes, coaches, parents, and guests who are buzzed through. The followng protocol outlnes the rules that accompany the nstallaton of the door: Gymnasts wll be able to enter 15 mnutes pror to the start of ther sesson to access the change rooms, up untl 10 mnutes after start tme. At any other tmes, gymnasts wll need to ask the front offce to buzz them n. Please be aware that EITHER COMPETITIVE OR RECREATIONAL GYMNASTS WHO ARE 7 YEARS OF AGE AND UNDER MAY BE ACCOMPANIED BY PARENTS TO OUR CHANGE ROOMS. Otherwse, gymnasts AGES 8 AND UP ARE TO GO TO THE CHANGE ROOMS IN OUR FACILITY ON THEIR OWN. Please be advsed that there are restrooms located outsde our faclty. We strongly urge gymnasts to be ready wth ther tranng clothes on pror to the start of sesson to make the transton to tranng easer. We have full tme faclty supervsors to provde assstance to ensure the smooth flow of gymnasts n and out of our faclty.! Parents and others are able to observe tranng sessons. Parents should respect the gymnasts and coaches durng tranng and refran from flash photography, and pontng or tappng on the glass. Negatve comments from parents n the upper hallway wll not be tolerated. **Remnder** for the safety of all athletes, parents are not permtted on the gym floor at any tme. If you wsh to speak wth your chld s coach an appontment can be made through the Men s, Women s or Acro Techncal Drectors or a note can be placed n the coach s malbox.! PARENT VIEWING GYMNASTICS MISSISSAUGA PARENTS CODE OF CONDUCT Ths Code of Conduct dentfes the standard of behavour that s expected of all parents of Gymnastcs Mssssauga athletes, both recreatonal and compettve. Gymnastcs Mssssauga s commtted to provdng an envronment n whch all ndvduals are treated wth respect. Parents shall conduct themselves at all tmes n a manner consstent wth the values of Gymnastcs Mssssauga, whch nclude farness, ntegrty and mutual respect. Parents should not, under any crcumstances, contact Gymnastcs Ontaro or Gymnastcs Canada drectly. Questons or concerns can be brought to the attenton of The Executve Drector or Head Coach. Your questons may then be communcated by Gymnastcs Mssssauga admnstraton to the approprate ndvduals at Gymnastcs Ontaro or Gymnastcs Canada. Falure to comply wth ths Code of Conduct may result n dscplnary acton as determned by the Board of Drectors and the Executve Drector, up to and ncludng termnaton of membershp prvleges. 11
