In a world where half of the populaton over three bllon people lves on less than $2.50 a day, and 21,000 chldren de each day due to poverty, GFWC encourages clubs to reach beyond ther own communtes and consder how they can make a global mpact. The GFWC Internatonal Outreach Communty Servce Program s desgned to enable members to become better world ctzens through advocacy, educaton, and acton, whch wll, n turn, affect change n and for our global frends and ther communtes. In most cases, GFWC members cannot physcally be present to assst and make changes n countres around the world; however, members can be assured that the donatons made through our partnershp agences are reachng those n the greatest need. There are countless ways to support global development. Consder rasng cultural awareness; celebratng ethnctes; conductng fundrasng actvtes to support healthy chld development; advocatng for basc human needs such as food, water, clothng, and educaton; and promotng self-suffcency. Below s a comprehensve lst of deas on how clubs may support the Internatonal Outreach Communty Servce Program. IDEAS Help chldren all over the world by fundng lfe-savng vaccnes. Partcpate n nternatonal cultural exchanges. Educate your club and communty about major ssues and challenges facng people n developng countres. Support the development of healthy and sustanable communtes around the world. Ensure chldren have access to health, educaton, equalty, and protecton. Provde support and encourage growth and sustanablty by donatng gfts such as lvestock to famles n need. Educate members about Unted Natons programs concernng women and chldren. Promote legslaton n support of human rghts around the world. Provde members wth drect servce opportuntes for persons n developng countres through our program partners. Operaton Smle s free surgeres and medcal mssons are made possble by the thousands of volunteers and donors, throughout the world, who generously contrbute tme, talent, and resources to our cause. Together, GFWC members and Operaton Smle wll contnue to gve chldren new smles and new lves. Every chld healed creates a rpple effect on the chld s famly, communty, and country. Here s how GFWC and Operaton Smle can work together to help a chld smle: Order the Operaton Smle GFWC Informaton Packet. Rase funds to support Operaton Smle s programs to gve a chld a new smle and hope for a better future. Sew and prepare Smle bags, Smle dolls, chldren s hosptal gowns, blankets and qults, and armbands for chldren undergong surgery. Collect needed tems and supples; needs lsts are n the nformaton packet. Help us ensure that GFWC receves proper credt for your donaton by ncludng your club name on all checks. Shot@Lfe, a Unted Natons Foundaton s campagn, seeks to educate, connect, and empower Amercans to champon vaccnes n order to save chldren n developng countres. Every 20 seconds, a chld des of a vaccne-preventable dsease lke pneumona, darrhea, measles, and polo. You can help save a chld s lfe by encouragng, learnng about, advocatng for, and donatng vaccnes. GFWC clubs can support Shot@Lfe by: Plannng advocacy and awareness events around key dates such as World Polo Day (October 24) and World Pneumona Day (November 12). 3

U.S. Fund for UNICEF Contact: Lacey Stone, Offcer, Offce of Strategc Partnershps th Avenue South, Seattle, WA W: E: LStone@UNICEFUSA.org P: For more than sx decades, GFWC has supported UNICEF, the Unted Natons Chldren s Fund, n ts efforts to ensure the world s most vulnerable chldren have access to health, and mmunzaton, clean water, nutrton, educaton, emergency and dsaster relef, and more. GFWC clubs are nvted to support the followng UNICEF programs: UNICEF s Healthy Vllages Program works wth vllages n the Democratc Republc of the Congo to support efforts to buld and mantan basc systems to provde clean water, a smple latrne for every home, and nsectcde-treated mosquto nets n each home. It costs $5,000 to support a vllage. All donatons wll go towards GFWC s collectve efforts. Together, we can create healthy vllages throughout the DRC. 5 GFWC New Tampa Junor Woman s Club (Florda) made Days for Grls Kt. Femnne Hygene Program by makng hygene kts for grls n the Phlppnes. It has a drawstrng bag, underwear, washcloth, soap, two zplock bags and hand sewn re-usable max pads. Each month GFWC Granbury Woman s Club (Texas) raffles a dozen fresh-lad eggs from a member s chcken coop. The eggs come n green, bege, and brown. Club members come early to buy tckets to beneft Hefer. GFWC Vllage Improvement Assocaton of Rehoboth Beach (Delaware) donated shoes to Water Step whch does dsaster relef. New and gently used shoes are sold to an exporter and funds help brng clean water to those n need. AWARDS GFWC recognzes State Federatons for outstandng projects and clubs for creatve projects n mplementng effectve Internatonal Outreach Communty Servce Program projects and partnershp projects, as follows: Certfcate to one State Federaton n each membershp category $50 award to one club n the naton for project creatvty Award wnners wll be determned by entres nto the Awards Program. Each State Federaton may submt one State Award Cover Sheet and one Club Creatvty Award Entry Cover Sheet for the Internatonal Outreach Communty Servce Program projects. Clubs do not submt entres drectly to GFWC. GFWC partners wll recognze State Federaton and clubs for ther efforts. Contact the GFWC Programs department for nformaton.
