1 !! Coastal Shag Club Can you believe that 2013 is coming to a close and 2014 is right around the corner? I wish all Coastal Shag Club members, guests and your family and friends a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. We are not doing a Chili s night out this month, but we will get started back up in January. Last month we raised another $ Thanks to all who came out to feast. We are wrapping up our membership drive but you still have time to wrap a few gifts for those tough to buy for friends. Wouldn t it be a terrific idea to give the gift of a Coastal Shag Club membership?? We have a few 2014 SOS cards available that are good for entrance into all the clubs in North Myrtle Beach during the SOS Mid-Winter Break that takes place in January from the 17th through the 19th. The SOS card is also good during Spring Safari and Fall Migration. Please come see me at the dance if you are interested in getting your 2014 SOS card. I want to remind everyone that we will be collecting canned goods for the local food pantries during our January and February dances. We also are collecting items for the Backpack program and will be supplying a list of the items needed for this project. At our January dance, dinner will be served by the Moose Lodge. The dinner will consist of Spaghetti and Meatballs, salad, bread and your choice of water or iced tea. The cost will be $5.00 per person. We will be selling tickets at the first table after you check in. We will need some desserts and will pass around a signup sheet at the December dance. I am reaching out to all members who would like to volunteer in some way with the Coastal Shag Club. We could always use help at the door, the 50/50, setting up prior to our dances and cleaning up afterward. We need you and will welcome your help with open arms. I personally thank all of our Members and Guests for supporting the Coastal Shag Club during the 2013 calendar year. As 2013 is rapidly coming to a close and on behalf of our club Officers and Board of Directors, I again wish you and yours a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. As the Christmas season is upon us, I leave you with this quote from a well-known Doctor. Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn't before! 2 Pat and Teresa Boyd Both Pat and Teresa grew up in Maryland; Pat from Lanham and later moved to White Plains: Teresa from Waldorf. They met in their early twenties out dancing and playing darts. After getting married in 1983, they had (4) children and now have (7) grandchildren to enjoy as well. They moved into Bent Tree Plantation in Career for Pat began when working in brick laying, trim work, and then custom building. He has now become a Lifetime Contractor and is presently working as the On-site Builder for the Highlands in Shallotte, NC. Career for Teresa was in Administrative Law work in the Washington DC Court of Appeals. After moving to NC she received her Real Estate License in She presently works as an agent with Coldwell Banker Sloan Realty in Sunset Beach, NC. As for their shag life, they have taken beginners and intermediate shag lessons twice since They joined the Coastal Shag Club in 2007 where Teresa served as Secretary for(2) consecutive years. Later, Pat served as Vice President in 2011 and By 2013 Pat became President for CSC and we look forward to his being our new President for 2014! For favorite music, Pat is a fan of beach music especially the Craig Woolard Band who played for them for their 25 th Wedding Anniversary at the Silver Coast Winery. They also have been on several CWB Cruises. Whereas, Teresa likes all genre of music and bugs Pat with her sing-a-longs to almost every song they hear together. In the Brunswick community, Pat and Teresa have enjoyed participating with Habitat for Humanity. Pat started early helping to repair homes for senior citizens over 100 years old, in Maryland. Giving their time to help others has been most rewarding for them. In spite of having open-heart surgery in 2008 to repair a leaky mitral valve, Teresa is still going strong working in real-estate and shagging the night away with Pat. We feel very fortunate and blessed to have them as members of the Coastal Shag Club. 2

3 VOLUME 6 ISSUE 12! DECEMBER 2013 Our DJ will be Jim "The Dancing DJ" Sterner! It's our last dance of 2013 and you won't want to miss it! Jim will introduce some new great shag music and also play your favorites. He may even teach us a new step with the beautiful Donna. Come out and shag the night away. BRING AN APPETIZER OR DESSERT TO SHARE. Wear your FANCIEST, TACKIEST, FUNNIEST CHRISTMAS SWEATER TO THIS DANCE. You might just win something. JANUARY and FEBRUARY THERE IS NO CHILI S NIGHT IN DECEMBER IT WILL RESUME IN JANUARY. BRING CANNED FOOD FOR THE FOOD PANTRIES Chili's has offered CSC the opportunity to raise charitable funds simply by enjoying their delicious food! Bring yourself, your family, your friends, and your neighbors to Chili's next year between 5pm and 10pm. Once there, let Chili's know your with the Coastal Shag Club and Chili's will donate 10% of the entire bill, for food and drink, back to our club. 5 Coastal Shag Club 2014 Membership Drive It is time to renew your membership with the Coastal Shag Club or to join for the first time. This of course means paying your dues for There are two ways of paying dues. Option 1: GOLD MEMBER STATUS Make a one time payment of $60.00 per person. This option serves two purposes. The club member does not have to pay the $5.00 admission at the door each month and all dues are paid in advance. You save $30.00 per year if you attend every dance. If you choose this option, your money must be paid no later than the December 2013 dance. If a new Gold Member pays in November, as a bonus, he/she is admitted to the December dance free. Option 2: SILVER MEMBER STATUS Make a one time payment of $30.00 per person. The member must also pay the $5.00 each month at the door. If you come to every dance, you will have paid $30.00 extra with this option. If you choose this option, you may join at any time during the year. ASSOCIATE MEMBER ( Guests) Guests are considered ASSOCIATE MEMBERS. Guests who are members of any shag club pay $5.00 at the door. All shag club memberships are honored. Admission for a guest who is not a member of a shag club is $8.00. Checks should be made payable to Coastal Shag Club.
