2 COMMUNITY IS OUR MIDDLE NAME WELLNESS VOLUNTEER COMMUNITY Most of the things worth doing in the world were declared impossible before they were done How wonderful it is that no one need wait a single moment to start to improve the world A single act of kindness throws out roots in all directions, and the roots spring up and make new trees This year: This year: This year: The Nancy Marx Cancer Wellness Center grew to support 88 participants living with cancer who have found hope and a sense of community by partaking in our free, holistic programs Our licensed Partners In Caring therapists counseled approximately 200 individuals through support groups, individual counseling and workshops relating to life cycle issues such as divorce, caregiving and bereavement Throughout the last 57 years, Sid Jacobson JCC has been the thread that connects thousands of individuals and families together. As our fiscal year closes, some of our of achievements this year are worth noting: The Nancy Marx Cancer Wellness Center became a founding member of the Cancer Consortium of LI, a group of cancer-related organizations that provide services to survivors, along with Northwell Health and the American Cancer Society The Special Needs department launched the first-ever Roslyn chapter of Voices United, a self-advocacy group focused on empowering teens and adults with special needs to live life to their potential Sid Jacobson JCC launched our all-new Parenting Center, a supportive resource for today s parents through all stages of the parenting process We create community by meeting our individual members and families where they are. It s because we see community differently. 20 members diagnosed with Young Onset Dementia and their families sang and danced at the first-of-its-kind Rock n Roll Memory Café. It was such a success that we held our second event just a month later Attracting such names as Kristin Hannah, Martha Hall Kelly and Instagram all 5 of our Book + Author events sold out at a record speed, drawing over 1,200 attendees Our volunteer coalition provided over 17,000 hours of service within our JCC and in the community Thanks to the generosity of our community, over $800K in scholarships were provided to families in need Nearly 200 blankets were knit and donated to individuals undergoing treatment at St. Francis Hospital s Cancer Institute Infusion Center Vocational Training & Employment Center VTEC continues to meet the growing demands of individuals with special needs aging out of the school system by servicing over 90 clients More than 200 families volunteered at our MLK Day of Service packing over 1,000 backpacks with books provided to elementary schools in need The Early Childhood hallways were filled with rachmanus (compassion) as children participated in our monthly Tzedakah programs teaching social responsibility. In December, over 350 sets of pajamas were donated to children in need The Specialized Senior Services staff became certified in Music & Memory, and worked with our teen volunteers to provide tailor-made ipods based on personal memories for 45 members with memory loss Our teens embarked on once-ina-lifetime excursions of cultural immersion and community service with agencies such as Give Kids the World and Repair the World on their trips to Orlando, New Orleans and Cuba Career>Connect obtained nearly 175 new clients and successfully assisted 80 individuals in securing employment and/or volunteer opportunities Along with 10 media partners, our Center for Israel s shinshinim and over 20 partner agencies brought Israel to life for nearly 5,000 guests at Israelfest the biggest success to date!
