1 Children s Board Family Resource Center in North Tampa Family Community Advisory Council Meeting Date: August 8 th, 2013 In Attendance: Ursula Ortiz-Ronnholm, Lucila Ortiz-Deliz, Claudia Woods, Gwendolyn Wheeler, and Tahara Marion. Guess: Nicole Chapman, Sheryl Harrison, and Amilcar Amalbert. Absent: Sonia Taylor, Lisa Robinson, Tynae Jones, Douglas Young, Margarita Alleman, Jorge Chavez, and James Collins. Center Environment (Center safety concerns, accessible to all, meeting goals) Meeting was called to order at 5:35 by Ruth Colon, followed by leading all present in a moment of silence. Introduction of all the FCAC members, and guesses. July minutes were approved, 1 st motion by Lucila Ortiz-Deliz, and 2 nd by Claudia Woods. Data Review: July and August Data are pending Utilization data by site, utilization summary and demographics. Getting to Know our Community Agencies: September 12 th - Reading Pals: Nicole Brown from United Way. United Way is looking for volunteers for the story time at Boys and Girls Clubs. Nicole Brown from United Way is planning to come for next meeting to do a presentation to the FCAC NA N/A Submit approval of July minutes to Healthy Start Coalition. Review July and August data will be review in September. 2 True Life community Worship - Cypress Point Park 2:00 - Sheryl Harrison Flyer will be ed to promote the event ***School supplies will be sponsored by NT FCAC September: a) Grandparent s Day - Center Sponsored / FCAC decided date and hour. 1 st motion was presented by Claudia Woods, and 2 nd by Lucila Ortiz. September 7 th at 11:00 1:00 b) Volunteer Appreciation Center Sponsored. September 21th, 11:00-1:00 Issues: Nicole Chapman brought up issues with volunteers during Hurricane Prep. Event and other topic at the center. 1. Nicole stated that volunteers needs to feel more appreciated (including refreshments). 2. Spanish speakers in the lobby area. Nicole stated it s disrespectful. 3. Nicole stated to not give raffles tickets to each member of the family. 4. Nicole suggested having subcommittees to plant the activities. For Hurricane Prep. Event, Ms. Gwen Wheeler suggested that in the next time to do presentations, instead of just tables with information. October: c) Open House - FCAC & All Domains Sponsored Open house will be in October. Date was not selected yet. Ruth brought an idea Open House 9am-5pm and then a ladies night with Moffitt Canter Center, Domestic Violence workshops and/or karaoke. Another idea was asked from FCAC. FCAC members want to have subcommittee. Next meeting will be FCAC sponsored with school supplies and back packs. Event needs to be promoting. Closed event for volunteer & FCAC member. RSVP need to be done. Regarding volunteering issue, Ruth explained that all the volunteers are appreciated and not harm or offense was meant. About Spanish language, Ruth explained that she will review this situation with staff. Regarding raffle tickets, Ruth explained that was discussed during planning event, but President Alex Molina took care of this manner. FCAC will donate $15.00 for needles. 1 st motion was presented by Ursula Ortiz, and 2 nd by Claudia Woods. e) Thank you to all the volunteers for your help at the Hurricane Preparedness Event: Jessica, Nicole, Lucila, Úrsula, Gwen & Maria Suggestion Box review: One English note, saying: just a great job a) Citizenship Study Group Tuesdays 4:00-5:30pm & Fridays 11:00 12:30 / Flyer b) Single Parents Support Group Tuesdays 12:30-1:30pm / Flyer Domain Updates: Child Development: a) August 24 (Saturday) Germaine the Germ & Nutrition Class 10:30am-12:00 (Flyer) Registration is required Health and Safety: Updated:**During last Mobile Clinic, 19 kids received services. a) September 5 (Thursday) Dental Mobile Clinic (children up to 18 y/o) Registration is required and paperwork needs to fill out. b) September 19 th (Thursday) Booster Seats Safety Class 3:00-5:00 (Flyer) Registration is required. Check flyer for more information. Budget New FCAC Budget is $2,500. Current budget as of 7/11/2013 is $1, Budget for next activities until 9/30/2013: Hurricane Pre. Event - $ Volunteer Appreciation Day - $100 Donation Tahara Owens Mr. Sanchez has been contacting Embassies to promote this group. Tanya has been promoting this group via and flyers. Promoting event Registration is required Appointment and paperwork is required. FCAC Special Projects/Suggesti ons (Suggestion to group) Grandparents Day - $100 Donation Back to School Event - $500 Recommendation was presented by Gwen Wheeler to amend the amount, instead $ for $ st motion was presented by Lucila Ortiz and 2 nd by Ursula Ortiz. For this event, we are going to use the same school supplies list for the refill event on January 2013, and backpacks. Review from FRC Partnership: a) FCAC Policy and Procedures Power Point presentation was showed to the FCAC members during the meeting. No questions about presentation. b) FCAC membership 4 meetings during fiscal year at one time location. 5 members need to have at least 7 meetings. Gwen 7 completed / Claudia 6 / Cheryl 3 one more to be a member. c) Community Café suggestions 6 points were reviewed with FCAC as a suggestions for next center activities or events. At this point, NT has Single Parents Support Group. d) Ursula Ortiz-Ronnholm is interested to bring a workshop for parents to teach to the kids how to read. Community Announcements: a) August 10 (Saturday) Back to school fair at Glazer Museum 9:00-4:00 b) October 9 th 12:00 pm at Children s Boards Partnership meeting. c) Sheryl Harrison True Life Church presented information on thanksgiving event with boxes of food, clothes, and etc. Ruth requested approval for executive director. $ was approved for this event, due to budget. Review and share information about board member positions due to president, treasurer and recorder are not able to continuing with the positions.
