2 YWCA BERGEN COUNTY ABOUT US YWCA is the oldest and largest multicultural women s organization in the world. Across the globe, the YW has more than 25 million members in 122 countries, including 2.6 million members and participants in 300 local associations in the United States. YWCA Bergen County: is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women, and promoting peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all. has been serving Bergen County since 1920 with programs that improve lives, inspire change, and create opportunities. provides safe, welcoming places for women, girls, and families to learn, share, and grow; supports women and girls on their paths to educational, career, and financial success; and advocates for women s rights and civil rights. is the area s largest provider of child care services, a recognized leader in health and fitness programs, and operator of healingspace, the county s only Sexual Violence Resource Center. Women, girls and families come to YWCA Bergen County for a variety of reasons. Our hope is that they leave with a renewed spirit, healthy relationships, new skills and stronger lives. 2

5 YWCA BERGEN COUNTY ABOUT healingspace Free, confidential 24/7 hotline services ( ) to survivors and their families to help them navigate the trauma of sexual violence and its aftermath. Trained advocates provide individual counseling, facilitate support groups, and accompany survivors through medical, legal, and other proceedings associated with sexual violence. Out in the community every week raising awareness and educating in schools, workplaces, and among diverse professionals on the front lines of sexual violence. healingspace web and mobile app extends services to include a confidential chat in addition to 24/7 phone hotline. App also puts information about preventing and addressing sexual violence in every pocket. Legal Fund to provide legal advocacy services and access to legal services to survivors of sexual violence in partnership with Northeast Legal Services. Requests for services may be made by contacting Erin Cunneely at ecunneely@ywcabergencounty.org. Donations may be made by contacting Mary Eastwood at meastwood@ywcabergencounty.org. 5

8 GOALS Time Is Now Action Coalition begins as a Bergen-County-based initiative, with the goal of becoming the basis for a statewide effort. Time Is Now Action Coalition will: Create a clearinghouse of resources to raise awareness, educate ourselves, and provide necessary services to survivors. Identify gaps in services and outline plans to fill them. Facilitate proactive commitment by employers to create safe workplaces free from discrimination, harassment, and violence that also provide equal opportunity to all people. Encourage us all to take action where we live, work, worship, gather, and play to do our part in creating a collective shift. 8
