Before we stopped mailing it out a few years ago, we asked everyone to update your information with us so we could the Post Ops to everyone. This was a good idea but not everyone updated and as a result, some people stopped getting their copy. So, here is what we are going to TRY to do. We will mail the Post Ops to the local members only (sorry, Snow Birds, you will have to keep getting it by E- mail). We will be mailing every three months with three months worth of calendars. The problem is you will be getting a calendar that will not be updated as we do that every month. So, you will still need to check to see what is going on around the Post like special entertainment, dinners, activities and so forth. While you will be getting some of the information, you will not be getting ALL the information. We would love to mail out the Post Ops every month but we just can t afford it. Just the postage is going to be over $ and that doesn t count the cost of printing. So, now I m requesting your help. Please mail your dues to the Post instead of National. Two reasons first, you get your card a whole lot quicker and second, you get to update your information like address, phone number and . We really need this information. 2 Page 2 August, 2018 Post Ops FROM THE COMMANDER: (Continued from Page 1) Now for the good stuff. Were you at the Legion or watched the parade on the 4th? If you were, you had a ballast! I know I did. People we haven t seen for a while came in, had a drink or two, ate a hot dog or three, hung out and caught up. It was a great day! Next up? The picnic at Ted Odman s farm. A very nice place right on the Molalla River, lots of shade, horseshoes and fantastic food! Remember it s potluck. You bring the casseroles, chips, side dishes and we (the Post) supply the burgers, dogs & beverages. The Lounge has changed its hours. Since the sun has come out, people have stopped coming in on Saturdays so, we will be closed on Saturdays until fall. Check the Lounge report in this Post Ops for new days and hours. For God, Country and our Veterans Steve Renhard *************************************************************************** FROM THE FIRST VICE-COMMANDER: Hello, Legionnaires, Hope you are all holding up with the really HOT weather we have had. It is a sure indication that summer is here. Again, this month, I m requesting the support of the membership. Please pay your dues early. As the Commander requested, mail your dues to Canby Post No. 122, PO Box 121, Canby, OR We haven t yet received what our membership goal for this year but should have it soon. It would be nice if everyone would pay their dues early so that we could be a GOAL POST by Veterans Day (November 11th). Remember, if you do not have a current membership card, you do not have any lounge privileges. We do need your help with the events we put on. Please volunteer to work at least one function. You can have some fun and laughs with the other volunteers. 3 Page 10 August, 2018 Post Ops FROM THE LOUNGE August is Parades, Fairs, Picnics, Vacations and BBQ s so come on down and celebrate with your friends! Picnic is August 11th from 11:00-4:00 so bring your favorite dish. We had a work party of 5 that helped with the cleaning on Monday, July 2nd. A BIG THANK YOU to Lynn Hayes, Anna Hall, Lyle Hilley, Commander Steve Renhard and myself. You are all greatly appreciated. We are looking forward to another party so if you would like to help get your Veterans Club in shape, please let me know as the next work party is scheduled for August 6th. Free Veterans Lunch is on August 28th so come enjoy. New Lounge House: 4:00 until.. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday until close. Closed Saturday, Sunday, Monday & Tuesday. Keep FRIDAY, AUGUST 3RD open on your calendars as THE HUDSON ROCKET BAND will be entertaining on the Patio, weather permitting, from 7:00 until.? Suzie is putting on her Rib & Chicken dinner on the BBQ with presale tickets for $12.00 each. Come join and enjoy the music and dinner along with friends and Legion family. Weather permitting, Friday night Hamburgers on the patio along with your favorite beverage! The Lounge is now run by all volunteers so please SUPPORT them with your tips. Please carry your membership card with you! The bartenders WILL be asking to see cards and if not current, they will not be able to serve you. For your convenience, you may pay your dues at the lounge. Thank you! Page 3 August, 2018 Post Ops FROM THE UNIT VICE-PRESIDENT: Our 2019 Auxiliary membership cards are ready to be distributed with your payment of $35. $28.50 of our dues go to our Department and National American Legion Auxiliary. The remaining $6.50 is all that is left for us to use on our programs. The Post picnic will be at Ted Odman s on Saturday, August 11th. Our membership team will be there to receive your dues and present you with your 2019 membership card. The fund raising profits along with our yearly dues help our Unit with our obligations. We donate to our Veteran s Hospital at Christmas time, children s Halloween and Christmas parties, Mt. Wave Search & Rescue Team, Canby Adult Center, Clackamas County Foster Care Program, Girls State, Veterans Poppy Program and a scholarship each year. Join us at our meetings on the 1st Wednesday of each month at 7:30 PM and see how you can make a difference. 4 Page 4 August, 2018 Post Ops FROM THE SERVICE OFFICER: Some of our members are enrolled in the VA Choice Program. A few have had numerous problems getting the VA to pay the outside medical providers. FROM THE VA. The Choice program allows veterans who can t get a VA appointment or who live in rural areas to get treatment at private medical providers paid for by the VA. To use the Veterans Choice Program, VETEANS MUST RECEIVE PRIOR AU- THORIZATION FROM THE VA to receive care from a provider that is part of VA S VCR network of community providers. The authorization is based on specific eligibility requirements with the Veteran s VA provider. VA must authorize care that is needed beyond the scope of the first authorization. Since the Choice program was created in 2014, some private medical facilities have experienced delays getting paid by the VA. When payments are stalled, veterans medical bills can be sent to debt collectors and their credit reports damaged Ways to prevent trouble: 1. If the VA sends you outside the VA system, GET IT IN WRITING! That could be a script, Dr s orders or even your current medical file. 2. Make sure that the new provider understands that this is a Choice referral. 3. Do not ignore any correspondence from billing departments. Contact the VA Portland billing department as soon as you get any notices. 4. Billing Health Revenue Center phone # VA Choice and Non VA Care Assistance phone # The VA established a toll-free number, , for veterans to call when facing billing issues through the Choice program. And now a big thanks to all the members of Post 122. I was nominated and was awarded the Service Office of the Year at the 2018 Convention. The award really belongs to all. If it wasn t for the assistance and help that you provided, none of this would happen and even if it was you asking me for help, you made me dig hard to find the best answer. I am grateful. I want to thank the following for helping with our float. It looked Great! Dennis Cramton for donating the use of the trailer. Bob Simmons for backing in the trailer. Steve Renhard, Steve Morrison, Bob House, Lyle Hilley, Smith French, Bunny Bigley and Steve s friend & dogs for decorating and Richard Ramey was there to help tear it down. It was sad that we only had 3 people and a dog riding on it in the parade. If we cannot get members to participate in our activities and fund raisers not just the free ones, our traditions may disappear and it is our Veterans that will lose. Aren t they the true reason for the American Legion Auxiliary? Loyal

5 Page 8 August, 2018 Post Ops MEAL TIMES We re doing it again on Friday August 3rd, 5:30-7:30 PM, the Auxiliary will be hosting a Friday First Friday Family BBQ Ribs or Chicken, Potato Salad, Baked Beans and Fresh Corn on the cob. The $12.00 tickets are on sale at our lounge and from Auxiliary members. Please purchase them before Wednesday, August 1st as we need to be sure our food count is right on. The Hudson Rocket Band from our area will also be performing for our enjoyment. Come on down, had dinner and cool off with our refreshments and rock out. Our Unit will be doing the VETERANS Luncheon on the 4th Tuesday. We served 18 Veterans on June 26th. The next one is Tuesday, July 24th at 12:00 Noon. The following ones are on August 28th, September 29th and October 23rd. Come and enjoy each other and a great meal. July 24th will be a hamburger feed, August 28th BLT sandwich and garden salads. I m welcoming fresh veggies for this luncheon. Bring those fresh tomatoes. Call Breakfasts start back on Sunday, September 9th 8:30-11:30 AM. The Children s Halloween Party will be Saturday, October 27th from 11:30AM to 1:30 PM. Lunch is free for the children and a fee of $4.00 for adults, please. Members bring your family and have fun. We love to see your little ones in their special costumes. This is the Centennial year for The American Legion so National will be pushing membership. I would think that s all you will hear this year is membership, membership, membership. With the new membership numbers for this year, we are down to 407 Post members. Hopefully, some of the Post 122 members will pick up their 2018 membership. I have a lot of 2018 cards that the dues have not yet been paid. If you don t pay your dues, you will not have your continuous years on your membership card and you must start over and you will also lose your lounge privileges. If you know of a member that has passed away, we could like you to tell the Post so that we can send in a data form to Department. This way the Post and National Headquarters can stop any mailing to the deceased and we can correct our records. Lou Westwick
