Connect with us on Facebook! I would like to thank everyone for their support during the last elections. I look forward to a very productive year at Post 83. We need each and every member s help in order to do this. We have many programs that need volunteers and support and it takes all of us to make them work. Thank you for all that do volunteer. Please watch the newsletter for upcoming events and the 2nd Wednesday of each month we will have Veteran Service Officers at the Post to help all Veterans Post members or not with VA support. 2 Post #83 Membership Update The membership report from the Dept. of Oregon on May 12, 2015 had North Eugene/Santa Clara Post #83 s member for 2015 to be is % of our 2015 goal. In addition, I have since transmitted to the Dept. of Oregon an additional 3 Non-Pay Transfers. For the 2014 membership year the goal set for Post #83 was 270. We exceeded that goal by 2 members. So our goal for this year was 20 higher than last. For the 2015 membership year Post #83 has added 46 transfers and new members. Of course, we have lost members as well. Some have been called to The Post Eternal, others have transferred to other Posts and some have decided to discontinue their membership. Once again, I remind you that you will begin receiving 2016 membership renewal notices in July. Renewal notices are NOT sent to you by Post #83 or The Dept. of Oregon but rather by National. MANY THANKS to all of you who have helped Post #83 meet it s 2015 Membership Goal by renewing your own membership, by recruiting a new member or by recruiting a transfer. For GOD and COUNTRY, Steve Handran, Adjutant *********************************************************** Chicken BBQ Hi folks, Mike R. here to remind everyone that we re coming close to our annual Chicken BBQ. We still need Charcoal briquettes for the BBQ and Post Picnic, etc. Help is always welcome at the Chicken BBQ so I ll be having a sign-up sheet by the main entrance. We will be needing help with setting up, charcoal duty, chicken preparation, cooking, serving, kitchen help and taking money among with a slew of other chores that make this event a success. 3 Auxiliary President s Message Greetings: Well, summer is almost here. Where did the year go?? June is a busy month. Please come and join us for the many activities we have planned. Relay for Life fundraising Breakfast is on the 7th and the Flag Retirement Ceremony is on the 13th. We will need help to serve the burgers and dogs after the ceremony. The Relay for Life Team will be on the corner of Wilkes and Irvington with their butterfly nets collecting funds for the team on the 18th. Auxiliary Yard and Bake Sale will be on the 20th. Bring your items starting on Thursday the 18th. Come check it out. You may find a treasure and support why we matter. To all you bakers out there, we need your special recipe for cakes, cookies, bread and etc. No cream pies please. Heat up your ovens, dawn your aprons and bring us your goodies by Saturday at 9:00 am. There will also be yummy pulled pork sandwiches and tater salad starting at noon by Chef Jay for the Relay for Life team fundraiser. Come and enjoy and support the cure for cancer. Father s Day Breakfast on the 21st. All Post fathers are just $3.50. Then off to McMinnville for the state convention on the 24th. Hopefully to recognize the unit for our dedication and hard work. I know we made a difference in the lives of Veterans, Children & Youth and our Community. The unit should be very proud of our accomplishments. If you can help with serving on the 13th or the 20th, call Karol. We also need help with set up of the Yard Sale starting at 7:00 am. Thank You. Till next Month. 4 Chaplain s Message The Pattern God set a pattern for us all To guild our way through life, A plan unique and special To bring joy instead of strife The directions are so simple That a little child can start Working on the pattern pieces To produce a work of art. Roads may go up winding mountains, But His pattern shows the way; Trails sometimes press against us, Causing fear and much dismay Storms and clouds may hover over us, But sunshine will clear them out Winds and cold may often hamper, But his love dispels all doubt, We must follow with great boldness. Keep our focus on the goal; Christ, the greatest pattern maker, Will protect our weary soul. A very Happy Father s Day to all. You Fathers, may the Good Lord Bless & Keep You. 5 Poppy Days I would like to thank our volunteers for our Poppy Days fundraiser. You all worked hard, and were terrific, and I really do appreciate all of you. A few of our usual volunteers had circumstances that made it impossible to help out this year, but I thank them too for their past participation and their thoughts during Poppy Days. We even had a few semi-new volunteers who stepped up to help even though they said they were a little unfamiliar with exactly what to do, and they did a wonderful job! I wish we had more people who were not afraid to participate. For those of you who had the time to volunteer and just didn t want to, I wish you could have been there. You really missed out on doing something very special. I also would like to thank our bartenders for keeping the money safe until Karol could collect it. Thank you again volunteers! Hope to see you next year! Marla McLean Poppy Chairman ********************************************************** Relay for Life There are just 56 days until the Eugene/Springfield Relay for Life. Only a few team members have turned in donations. If you turn in $100 in donations by June 23rd, ACS will give you a free event T-shirt. Currently our team has $1500 towards our Going for the Gold goal of $5000. We are ranked # 17 out of 117 teams. Our Relay for Life Breakfast fundraiser is Sunday, June 7th. We are hoping for a BIG turnout. Wear your purple team T-shirts. Last day to Register to be on Post #83 Team is June 15th. Curbing for Cancer is Thursday, June 18th from 4:00 to 6:00 pm. Please meet at the Post at 3:30 pm for corner assignments and a safety review. On Saturday, June 20th Jay will be selling his BBQ Pork Sandwiches as a Relay for Life Fundraiser from Noon until 5:00 pm. All donations go to the American Cancer Society which is devoted to finding a cure for all cancers. We have lost too many loved ones and friends to this terrible disease. 6 American Legion Riders Fellow Motorcycle riders, American Legion Post 83 now has a American Legion Riders Chapter. We are just getting started so if anyone is interested, now would be a good time to join and help make this a good thing for the Post and all the riders we have here. Our next meeting will be June 11, 2015 at 6:00 pm.. We still need more officers so that we can move forward on projects, rides and lots of other things. Hope you all had a safe Memorial Day weekend! We have many activities to help you kick off the summer season! We start off with the Relay for Life Breakfast Fundraiser on the 7th. Please come and support your Post #83 Team and the American Cancer Society. The Flag Retirement Ceremony is on the 13th. There will be burgers and dogs for sale after the ceremony. On the 19th Brian Ware is going make some soup and sandwiches as a fundraiser for VetLIFT. Thank you for all the faithful that come to our dinners, just wish we would see more. And thank you to all our cooks from the last year. Your delicious efforts are very much appreciated. From June 1st until August 31st of each year any Post, Auxiliary or SAL member(s) wishing to cook a dinner on a Friday night may do so. A $25.00 Usage Fee shall go to the Post General Fund to help cover the ongoing fixed costs of operation. The remaining net profit shall go to whatever American Legion, Auxiliary or SAL project or special event they choose. Next up the Auxiliary yard sale. Please start bringing your donations down on the 17th for the sale on Sat the 20th. It will be from 9:00 am-5:00 pm. There will be BBQ Pork Sandwiches for sale from Noon 5:00 pm as a Relay for Life Fundraiser. The Auxiliary will be hosting a Father's Day Breakfast on the 21st from 8:00-11:30 am. Dads eat for $3.50.
