Mark also extended a special thank you to Deb Breclaw of 1 st & fresh Catering for providing a 2
complimentary lunch to the Chicago board members Minutes Mark Radtke requested two minor changes to the October 13 meeting minutes. 1) add that active committee involvement is required for Helping Hand recipients, and 2) correct a phone number on the board list All Nicole Satterly made a motion to approve the meeting minutes of October 13, 2015 with the minor changes requested by Mark Radtke; Dawn Greer seconded the motion. Motion passed Treasurer s Report Linda Murdix reported cash on hand as of October 31, 2015 is $84,693. Checking account has $28,257; savings has $56,436. Deb Breclaw made a motion to approve the October 31, 2015 treasurers report. Christian Swiencki seconded the motion. Motion passed. Old Business 11-4 Helping Hands Submission Lynda D Antonio will not be accepting the Helping Hands assistance that was approved last month. She has shared she will be focusing on her job search in the southwest suburbs. Programs Mark shared that past program attendance and financial data looks good. Next program is November 10. Linda Murdix will handle the welcome announcements. Race to Indy As discussed at last month s meeting, this is a membership contest with National that runs from October 1 through April 1. The winning chapter receives a 2016 World Workplace comp registration. Deb and Nicole will be working with the chapter membership committee and will manage our chapter s involvement. National is hosting webinars the next few months to help guide chapters on how to market, promote and increase membership. All board members are welcome to participate in the webinars. President s Report 11-5 Mark shared a thank you note message from Mary Basel Christopher for the baby gift sent to her from the Chicago Chapter. Mark reminded the board that the November 19 program will be held at Maggianos as Petterinos was booked for this date a year ago. Michelle Murdix 3
noted that the overall program cost may be a bit higher due to AV fees. Associates 11-6 Mike Joyce reported the Happy Hour event invite went out for November 10 th. The networking event will be held at The Godfrey Hotel. Two drink tickets and light apps will be provided for a $20 registration fee. Another eblast will go out this week and again on Monday. The winter event to engage professional members and associate members is still being discussed by the committee. Career Services 11-7 Linda Murdix reported she is still looking for committee assistance. The mentor program is still ongoing. Communications 11-8 Drew Bishop shared that he and Tyler Ullrich met with their board mentor Nicole Satterly. They have set short and long term goals for the committee. Near term goals include a focus on LinkedIn postings; especially right before an event. The Facebook postings will also be on their short term list. Drew asked the board members if we should open the LinkedIn group to the public. Becoming a group member currently requires approval by an administrator. After group discussion, it was agreed to open our group to the public and manage discussions to determine they are appropriate. In addition, we will review as needed and close our group from the public if necessary due to inappropriate postings. Long term goals include the podcasting research initiative. Shona shared that she is involved with groups that use podcasting and she will share what she has learned with the committee. Another long term goal is regular communications to members about recent programs, upcoming schedule, sponsor opportunities, etc. Basically some form of a newsletter. Michelle added that STAR Chapter has a newsletter template that is very easy to use. It was discussed that the creation of a newsletter be moved to the short term goals. The chapter can use STAR Chapter as the template and distribution method. And board and committee members can contribute to the Joyce/Koutoupis Joyce/Koutoupis Murdix Bishop/Ullrich Open Open 4
content. The communications committee will outline newsletter sections that should be included in a newsletter. Distribution frequency will need to be determined (i.e., every month, every 8 weeks, etc.). Community Service 11-9 Dawn Greer thanked everyone for assisting with the 50/50 raffle at the Oktoberfest. We raised $ cash and she will deliver this donation to archi treasures today. Amy Swart donated her winnings back to archi treasures. Jerry DiCola reported that Designs for Dignity reps were at the Oktoberfest event. Mark and Jerry met with the reps and will be getting more information from them to determine if they would be a good candidate for us to help them and be a possible long term charity partner with the Chicago Chapter. Hospitality Nancy Miller reported the Oktoberfest event had 82 in attendance and was well received in the larger, cooler room. The food appeared to be scarce due to some of it being passed versus all buffet. The committee will manage that better next year. The holiday party is on schedule for January 7. CoreNet will manage the registration so we will be using their registration link for payment. The event will be listed on our site but with a link to their site for registration/payment. CoreNet will manage the nametags and registration area. New member receptions for spring and fall will be scheduled around the Easter and Labor Day holidays. Teknion is hosting the spring new member reception will let us know best date or if we need to move to another location due to showroom construction. Michelle commented to change the name of this event to Member Appreciation vs. New Member Reception with hopes of increasing member registration. Membership Edia Lamboy reported that the committee now has a rotating schedule for assisting at the lunch programs. The Oktoberfest guest list was shared with them from Michelle. The committee will be contacting all guests to invite them to join the chapter and upcoming events. Nicole suggested the committee use the new template from the Greer/Couty Miller/Benson Coan/Lamboy Ongoing 5
Indy contest material to connect with these guests. The chapter has welcomed 13 new members during the month of October. Professional Development & Education Christian Swiencki noted that the program survey results included several topic suggestions: how to develop a career management strategy and lease and space management software. The committee will research these ideas for the late 2016 and/or early 2017 calendar. Generational diversity was another suggested topic. It was discussed to consider a FM generational panel that would include new FMs to seasoned FMs. This could mirror the What are you Thinking panel that was at WWP. Chicago Chapter members Dan Ulbricht and Alice Hogueisson were on the panel in Denver so we could easily bring it here to Chicago. We would need a moderator to field the audience questions. This could possibly be an Associates event with a reception to follow. Mark added he met with the committee and discussed tours. Tours need to be unique and special if we continue to offer these types of events. Public Relations Ashley Bradarich announced the chapter officially has a Facebook page! She will post event info and pics before and after an event. She encouraged members to like the Facebook page IFMA Chicago. Facebook will be managed by Ashley and the PR committee. LinkedIn is currently managed by the communications committee. The two committees will work together to keep social media updated. Ashley shared there are two new members on the PR committee: Kevin Corrigan and Kevin Garvey. The postcard mailer will be sent in early December. It will include the January 7 holiday reception, January 27 Brainy Bite and February 18 program. Sponsorship Swiencki Bradarich Bradarich Ongoing Open 6
11-14 Mike Rich reported the committee budgeted $2,500 for the sponsor appreciation event. Bespoke is not within their budget. The committee will continue to research ideas for a sponsor event. Rich/Finney Mike will contact M&J as they have not paid their platinum sponsorship invoice that was issued in August. Sustainability Shona O Dea reported that Committee Chair Jessica Delgado-Hess has stepped down due to work commitments. Jess will remain on the committee and Shona will be the chairperson The four February 18 program panelists have been confirmed and the information is now posted on the website. Volunteer Director Debbie Breclaw requested each committee to identify their volunteer needs. Career Services: needs a chair and committee members. Public Relations: needs a co-chair. Communications: may need one or two more volunteers to help with podcasting and the newsletter. All other committees are good for now. New Business Golf Outing The annual golf outing is currently scheduled for May 26, 2016 at Harborside International. It was discussed moving the event to the Fall in future to change it up a bit. It was commented that CoreNet Chicago and Northern Illinois IFMA host their golf outings in September. If we consider moving the outing to another month in 2017, we need to check into the pricing. Rich/Radtke O Dea Breclaw Open Ongoing The next board meeting will be Tuesday, December 1, at 11:30am at Shone O Dea s office at DLR Group, 333 West Wacker Drive, Chicago. At 1:00pm Linda Murdix made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Dawn Greer seconded the motion. 7
