community groups reaching...learning...growing...chatting...connecting... together SUMMER 2015
JOINING A SMALL GROUP IS INCREDIBLY EASY Fill out the sign-up card... That s it!!... Make sure your sign-up card makes it to the church offices. Your small group leader will contact you in the next few days to answer any questions and provide you with all the information you need to start, including times and directions. If at any point, you have a question about your group, please feel free to contact the church and we will connect you to your leader if we are unable to provide an answer.
Community groups at New Beginnings are fun and enjoyable. New Beginnings exists to provide the best opportunity for you to become a fully devoted follower of Jesus Christ. No matter your background, you will be accepted as you are and you will be challenged to grow spiritually. NBC is a place where YOU belong. Community groups in The Bible In the book of acts we read that the earliest followers of Jesus met together regularly in the Temple courts and in houses (Acts 5:24). This is similar to the way we come together in large group worship services on Sundays, and meet in Small Groups outside of the church building through the week. It is clear in the New Testament that God values relationships. He wants you to be part of a community where people support and encourage you, and where you support and encourage them! Community Groups are at the heart of the future of New Beginnings and we want them to be at the heart of your lifestyle. They are the best way to form strong, lasting relationships with God and other NBCers!
What is a Community Group? A Community Group is a regular gathering of three or more people who meet in place such as homes, schools, workplaces, coffee houses, or parks. They can do all kinds of things: hang out, study the bible, serve the community, and pray together. Groups come in all shapes and sizes: married couples, singles, men s, women s, workplace, under 20, over 20, over 50 and the list goes on. No matter where you are in life, it is important to have a group of people you Regularly get together with to grow spiritually and have fun! FAQs HOW DO I SIGN UP? It s simple. Fill out the sign-up card at the welcome center or fill it out during any services and put it in the offering plate. Just make sure you fill out all the information so we can get you placed. HOW LONG DOES THE GROUP LAST? There are six sessions for the summer 2015 season. The dates are on the weekends of 6/14, 6/28, 7/12, and 7/26. Each session is to last 90 minutes. IS THERE A COST? Sometimes. Some group will have books and each person will need to pay for their own. Each person is responsible for the cost of all materials needed during the semester. If your group is an event group, you will be responsible for paying your own way. (If any cost may prevent you from participating, please contact the church and we will work with you). WHO MAY JOIN THE GROUP AND WHEN? It is our hope that you will help us recruit as many people as possible. Everyone is welcome! However, some groups may be limited (for instance...men are excluded from women s community groups). Also, we encourage to continue to invite family and friends throughout the semester! We want your group to grow. WHAT ABOUT CHILD CARE? At this point in our development, NBC does not have the personnel or the resources to pay personnel for child care. But, please continue to pray for us. We would love to be able to assist someday!
community groups WHAT IS YOUR VISION?... New Beginnings Church exists...to make fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ. WHAT IS YOUR MISSION?... The mission of our community groups is to provide you a venue to give you the best opportunity to grow into a fully devoted follower of Jesus Christ. These groups exist to give you a wellbalanced diet of fun, excitement, and development. We want you to say, Community groups are a very important part of my life that I can t live without! It is a lifestyle! HOW DOES IT WORK?... By embracing our culture and the rhythm of our seasons, we have developed a year-round cycle of community groups that will provide relevant answers to today s relevant questions. Here s how the seasons will be formed... January-May is our Growing Group season emphasizing personal growth June-July is our Connecting Group season emphasizing men s and women s groups August-November is our Learning Group season emphasizing personal learning November-December is our Chat Group season emphasizing holidays and family January-December is our Interest Group season played throughout the year for fun and activities Two veins will run simultaneously throughout the year: development groups & interest groups. We are being intentional about growing together, living this life together, and making a difference together! YOU are a vital part of our plans because New Beginnings is...a place where YOU belong.
GROWING GROUPS These 5 groups focus on helping you grow in your knowledge about the Bible, faith, God, and living a successful life in today s culture. Below is a chart of the growing groups offered this summer, their leaders, their day/time/location, and to whom they re open. Detailed descriptions of each group are on the next few pages. # Title/Book Leader For... 7 GROWING GROUPS SU-1501 Kenny Luck s Sleeping Giant The church has an 800 pound gorilla in the room: Men. In fact, most men feel detached from worship, left only with worldly expressions of manhood to fuel their identity. Join Pastor Jerry as he leads our men in awakening them to their calling and potential. Sleeping Giant is a punch in the gut and pat on the back for men worldwide, a powerful biblical approach that will bring them together and awaken some serious ministry potential. We will meet Wednesday nights at PJ s house starting in June! SU-1502 Priscilla Shirer s Breathe We are in bondage to busyness. We constantly strive to complete the limitless to-do lists that hinder us from experiencing all that God has for us. We miss the moments because we rush ahead to the next thing. It is time for us to breathe and build margin into our lives for God and Pastor Robin is going to lead us in a study to learn how. Sabbath was intended as a gift, and it is still a gift to us today. If you are weary, worn out, and exhausted the concept of Sabbath will change your life. We meet Wednesday nights, 6:30pm at New Beginnings Worship Center.
These 5 groups focus on helping you grow in skills and relationships with others. These groups are more about fun and excitement! INTEREST GROUPS Below is a chart of the interest groups offered this summer, their leaders, and to whom they re open. The day, time, and location of each group will be determined by the leader once he/she has met with the group at the Meet & Greet on June 7th. Detailed descriptions of each group are on the next few pages. # Title/Book Leader For... 9 INTEREST GROUPS SP-1503 Corn Hole Group We created this group for some good clean fun for adults to enjoy and interact with each other. It s an outdoor event everyone can play! You don t have to be an athlete. In fact, you don t have to be anything but willing to throw a bag to a hole and laugh while doing it. Kenny and Kim Olinger are hosting this group at their home on Sunday afternoons at 5:00pm. You have to come. It s a blast and you ll be surprised at how this event will become a I don t want to miss this in your week! SU-1504 Motorcycle Group So, if you re an outdoors person who watched the movie Wild Hogs and could relate, this could be you! Mark & Karen Guinn will take you on weekend excursions into the scenic roads of the Tennessee Mountains. The sights, sounds, and smells cannot be duplicated. You have to experience it to understand it. June and July are great months for motorcycling and this one has your name written all over it. SU-1505 Women s Pampering Group What s wrong with taking a little time out of your busy, relentless schedule to relax and enjoy some me time and being pampered? You re right, nothing! Lynnette Wilson and Haley Graham are preparing an environment fit for a queen. You will be spoiled, pampered, and indulged like never before. And as if that isn t enough, we re going to pray over your life and watch God do miraculous things in and through you! We meet Sundays at 6:30pm.
INTEREST GROUPS SP-1506 Movie Night Group There s something unique and sort of magical about sitting out on the lawn, smelling fresh cut grass, watching a family movie on a large inflatable screen with a rockin sound system. Add a big bag of buttered popcorn and a drink. You ll never want to spend money watching a movie again. Pastors Jerry & Robin are hosting movie nights at their home on Friday nights for all ages. Bring your lawn chairs, blankets, and Frisbees for some relaxed fun to help you unwind from your work week! We meet Friday nights at 6:30pm in June and July. SU-1507 Vacation Group Let s go away for the weekend together! Let s find a close vacation spot and do some things we ve always wanted to do. Let s go hiking, fishing, shopping, or whatever we want to for a couple of days Sound good? Great! Wayne and Kathy McNabb wants to invite you to join them and a bunch of other wild and crazy couples for a weekend getaway that promises to be more fun than what should be legal. I know it s going to stretch you but just do it. Don t think about it. Just do it! SU-1508 Golfing Group Sweetens Cove Golf Course has been voted as one of America s top 9 hole golf courses and it s right here in our county! If you haven t seen it, you won t believe it. Coach Jeff Howard, Marion County High School s golf coach, is going to lead us weekly in June and July for 9 holes of great fun and we re so excited. Don t miss this great opportunity. It s Tuesday nights, 6:00pm at Sweetens Cove.
