1 Title: Activities Worker Service: Strengthening Families - Family Impact Location: HMP Altcourse, Fazakerley, Liverpool, L9 7LH Supporter Category: Day to Day Our Activities Worker contributes to making a difficult and / or stressful situation into a positive one for the children who come to visit a loved one in prison. An important part of the role is to work with children (aged 3 and over) in the prison play area. Activities Workers are also based in the visitors centre, meeting, greeting and chatting with visitors which helps lower anxieties and preconceptions of a prison visit as well as provide a more relaxed experience. This, in turn enables people to feel assured that support is there for them and their families and that they are able to access more information if needed. Supporting our Play Workers in delivering structured activities (e.g. reading, games, arts and crafts) with the children to meet their individual needs as well as taking part in planned family days Gaining transferable skills and experience in planning / delivering activities in line with the Every Child Matters outcome important to children and young people (Be healthy, Stay safe, Enjoy and achieve, Make a positive contribution and Achieve economic well-being) Being aware of Health and Safety issues and maintaining a safe and secure environment Gaining transferable skills and experience of working in a customer facing role, resolving problems and customer service (including advising and signposting accordingly) Gaining a greater understanding of how the prison system works and the journey for families of prisoners commitment to our core values. A play worker qualification and experience of planning activities / family days is desirable but not essential. 3 Title: Art Supporter Service: Wellbeing Centres Location: Based within our Leeson Centre (Speke) and Avenue Service (Belle Vale / Childwall Valley Road) Supporter Category: Professional and / or Day to Day Our wellbeing centres provide a lot of group work to adults with core courses such as Lifting Mood, Raising Self Esteem and Anxiety Management. We also have many peer/supporter led groups and we are looking for someone who can specifically support our existing art group. The groups consist of service users that may have been coming to the centres for some time and also others who have just started attending. The groups are also of mixed ability, some very accomplished and there are others with just an interest in art who find it very therapeutic and relaxing. Designing and facilitating art sessions for groups of adults (including generating ideas for projects and leading the group in exploring these ideas) Providing a bit of related background history (regarding artists/styles) to generate interest Encouraging people to participate and contribute to group discussions and activities Gaining and building upon transferrable skills and experience from teaching others (including communication, presentations and coaching) commitment to our core values. This role would be suited to someone who was creative with a genuine interest and passion for art and working with people with mental health issues. 4 Title: Social Isolation Health Champion Service: Liverpool Health Trainers Location: Liverpool community based but mostly situated in St Columbus Church (Hunts Cross) Supporter Category: Champion Our Champions engage with Liverpool people who are socially isolated and support a drive to improve their health and wellbeing. We hope to increase engagement to health services and resources by helping raise awareness as well as improve access to services and health literacy. Social Isolation Health Champions essentially support the delivery of health related activities to increase an individual s selfconfidence, create opportunities for them to meet new people and speak to people more often. The role could include: Gaining transferable skills and experience of providing group and one-to-one support to people with varying needs (including individuals over the age of 75 and those with mobility restrictions) Providing peer and post health trainer support (including face-to-face conversations, buddying people to activities and places, attending organised groups etc) Identifying new opportunities for people who may be isolated as well as support the sustainability of groups where support may be ending from the health trainer service or other stakeholders Gather Health Intelligence from local communities by surveys, questionnaires or feedback forms which allows the service and / or our partners to improve what we do and the health and wellbeing of the Liverpool population commitment to our core values. 7 Title: Digital Champion Service: Mi Team Location: Based in various locations across Liverpool Supporter Category: Champion The role of a Digital Champion is to help individuals across the city to become Digitally Included. One in five adults in the UK still don t have basic online skills. In a world where computers are increasingly integrated into daily tasks this can mean individuals miss out. Online households can save up to 560 a year by paying for bills and doing their shopping online and people can also save time, stay in touch and explore interests. Our Champions use and develop their own existing skills, knowledge and experience to support people on a one-to-one or group basis. This can be anything from showing a friend how to use Facebook, showing a colleague how to an attachment, creating your own IT workshops etc. As a hub for Digital Champions, we have technology that Digital Champions can use in their role (e.g. laptops and tablets). Supporting individuals who don t know about the benefits of the internet to give it a try Helping people get themselves started (including setting up I.T equipment) Signposting people to free internet training or the option of delivering your own learning and development activities Gaining transferrable skills and experience from teaching others (including communication, coaching and mentoring) commitment to our core values. Good communication, patience and enthusiasm are particularly important to this role. 8 Title: Befriender Service: Mi Connections Location: Based in various locations across Liverpool Supporter Category: Champion Our Mi Connections befriending service provides support and friendship to people with dementia and their carers to combat the effects of isolation and loneliness among people with memory problems and / or dementia diagnosis, as well as their family members who have taken on the role of a carer. Our aim is to reduce social isolation and give the primary carer respite knowing their loved one is safe and happy with the befriender. Getting to know and befriending a person with dementia Chatting, listening and spending time with them and their carer Supporting the person to do the things they like such as going for a walk, doing activities, popping to the shops etc Gaining access to excellent training and one to one support Having the opportunity to develop transferable skills Gaining insight into the needs of people with dementia commitment to our core values. Patience, empathy and good communications skills are particularly important to this role. learning and development appropriate for the role (e.g. Dementia Awareness). Hours / Days: Monday to Friday between 9.00am and 5.00pm. The befriending activity will take place at a time and on a day that suits both the supporter and the person being befriended. 9 Title: Practitioner Supporter Service: Parent and Baby Wellness Service Location: Based in our Seel Street Office (L1 4BE) and various children centres across Liverpool Category: Champion / Networker Our service provides support and guidance to parents/carers and families within the critical 1001 days period from conception to age 2 years to ensure positive mental and physical health, close bonds and secure attachments in order to strengthen the family unit. We work with parents/carers in the antenatal and postnatal period - undertaking home visits or based within children s centres throughout Liverpool. This will provide a greater understanding of the importance and relevance of early years intervention. Supporting our practitioners in delivering groups for parents/carers and parents to be; for example; Mums/Dads Matter, Watch, Wait &Wonder. Gaining skills in the assessment of individuals who are experiencing depression and anxiety. Opportunities to develop empathic listening and SMART goal setting skills. Therefore, being emotionally supportive and promoting positive lifestyle changes. The opportunity to work with other key professionals e.g. children s centre staff, midwives and health visitors. The scheme manager retains legal accountability for the final decision on approval of new Shared Lives carers and the continuing approval of our existing Shared Lives carers, but seeks the advice of the Panel and takes full account of that advice in deciding whether a prospective Shared Lives Carer should be approved (new and existing to PSS). Our approval Panel is essential to both protect vulnerable and disabled people and also to represent the scheme and our work in the wider community. Gaining a greater understanding of the principles and mission of the Shared Lives scheme including the requirements and journey of individuals who are or wish to become Shared Lives Carers.
