It is a very busy time for all of us, but I am sure that we can meet the opportunities presented to us this holiday season. Organ donation registrations have increased as well as membership for the Texas LIONS Camp Century Club. We have a lot of new registrations for the Texas LIONS Leadership Forum in February Club participation at the Eyeglass Recycling Center has increased too. Keep up the great work! GLT coordinator PDG Suzi is preparing for another training date on March 4 th. I am sure it will be a great event. The next district cabinet meeting will be held in Decatur at the 1 st United Methodist Church on Saturday, January 21 st. The morning activities will include the annual district youth contests. Please plan on attending and get e-energized to continue your service. Hotel registrations for the San Antonio State Convention in May are going fast. It is going to be a memorable weekend. Registration can be found on the Texas Lions Web site We hope that you will join us in Chicago at the International Convention. The early registration rate of $130 ends January 13 th. 2 Page 2 District 2-E2 Charlie s Chat We are nearing the middle of this Lions year and in the midst of our Holiday Season, with Thanksgiving past and Christmas and the New Year fast approaching. I will remind you again to please review and understand your club and district goals and help to insure that these goals are met (see District Goals at end of Newsletter). The Holiday Season is a time of celebration with many of our Lions clubs holding Xmas Parties and Mid Lions Year celebrations and award events as well as conducting some of our more entertaining, rewarding, & valuable service projects. These Holiday projects often reach out and touch those most in harm s way or touch those in ways that are not easily duplicated at other times of the year (Xmas is a special time). Please continue to exemplify our motto, We Serve. The annual Celebration of Thanksgiving was held on November 20 with Lions from Districts E2, E1, X1 and X2 helping Transplant Services Staff. As always, it was a moving ceremony and it was great to work with so many Lions from the different districts (this is known as the Quad District). As of the end of November we have 99 fewer Lions than we had on July 1 (the start of the Lions year). The good or at least better news is we are within 2 of where we were 12 months ago, i.e., if we more or less repeat what we did last year, the District should end up net positive for We do anticipate some drops in December or January as our clubs adjust their membership to minimize their dues invoices from LCI as well as the District. Again, I know and appreciate that many of our Lions are actively marketing/recruiting new members and various plans for new clubs are being worked. We anticipate chartering a new Lions club (currently anonymous) in January. During/after the Holidays, I encourage all of our Lions to redouble your recruiting efforts, i.e., seek out possible new Lions and get them involved with your clubs service activities. This is a solid way to possibly recruit a new Lion that will remain a member for many years. Again if we ASK them, make them feel Welcome, and make sure they get Involved, we increase our chances to build our club membership. It is time to start thinking about club succession plans for the upcoming year (what openings and who will fill them). Also, If you are interested in any of the District Offices including entity directors that are up for election, you will need to send in a letter of support or nomination from your club to our Governor and elections chair. 3 Volume 13, Issue 6 Page 3 Pete s Notes The Christmas Season is upon us. The Lions clubs are in the spirited process of celebrating this festive season and herewith, finding ways to serve others. It is the time to review our projects of how to engage our youth within the community, plan our vision screening and take actions to benefit the visually impaired, with food drives relieving hunger and improving the environment. These are the basic objectives set forth by our International President Bob Corlew. With these afore mentioned objectives and our 2-E2 District Goals, it leaves us wanting for time and manpower to accomplish these projects, therefore we need help! Ask your friends, neighbors and acquaintances to come and help. This may lead to an increase in the club membership. All it takes for you, is to just to ask someone. Thank you, Prosper Lions Club and many of the clubs who have shared the joy of Christmas with the children and their families in the communities. It was gratifying to see the kids telling Santa their wishes. Now that we are approaching the second half of the lions year, let us review our past, look critically at the present situation and go with confidence into the next six months. A lot of activities will be occurring during this year with all the Centennial Celebrations, foremost, I would like to encourage the leadership of the clubs and members to attend the 3 rd District Cabinet meeting in Decatur, TX. on January 21, Lion Marie and I would like to wish all our wonderful Lion Families a Merry Christmas and a happy, prosperous New Year.

6 Page 6 District 2-E2 Club Activities Aledo promoted the Peace Poster contest working with the AISD Intermediate School Art teacher. Sponsored a poster in the District contest. Recognized the student for her participation. Argyle. At Celebration of Thanksgiving for the Gift of Transplantation Medicine at the UT Southwestern Medical Center. Assist the KAB in a half-day of cleanup, recycling and eye glass collection. Greater Arlington donated $900 to provide 30 families with Thanksgiving. Donated $1000 to the Masonic Home and School for Children to aid in the help with Autism. The Azle Lions Club has distributed 21 Christmas Trees to businesses in Azle with cards of angels to be taken and adopted for Christmas. These names come from the Azle School dist of children who are on free meals and their siblings. Azle Lions collect the bags of gifts that have had been filled and process them for distribution to the families the Saturday before Christmas. This project will be completed the end of December. Benbrook collected food and cash donations for the local food bank West Aid. 8 boxes of food and $ cash. Boyd Lions Club members participated in cleaning up the two mile stretch of 114 outside of Boyd. Burleson Lions Club provided glasses for a Crossroads High School male student. On Friday November 4th and Saturday November 5th, the Burleson Lions Club set up at various banks to raise money for blindness awareness for White Cane Day. The Burleson Lions Club served free hot dogs and drinks to American veterans and families at the Veterans Memorial Plaza in Burleson, TX. Cleburne. Reading and listening to elementary school students at Adams school. Deliver meals on wheels to the elderly of Cleburne. 5 children were given vision exams and glasses were purchased for them. Colleyville Lions participated in Keep Colleyville Beautiful, taking to the streets for trash pickup. Colleyville Heritage Lions sorted, washed and categorized usable donated eyeglasses at the District 2-E2 Eyeglass Recycling Center. Denton Hi Noon Lions Club donated turkeys to the Denton Salvation Army for Thanksgiving Dinners. The Hi Noon Lions Club held a Turkey Raffle during the months of October and November with a drawing held on November 10th. 25 Turkeys were purchased through WinCo Foods and First United Bank was a major sponsor. Raffle Tickets were sold to the community as a Service Project to donate 10 turkeys to the Denton Salvation Army along with 15 winners selected in the raffle drawing. The Raffle netted over $3,100 for the club to provide for sight saving projects, eyeglasses purchase for youth and adults, food bank support, and many other community service projects. Lion Jim Woolverton was again instrumental in making this project a huge success with his salesmanship abilities. 7 Volume 13, Issue 6 Page 7 Club Activities Sec-Treas. One Denton Hi Noon Lion delivered Mobile Vision Unit to McKinney for adult exams; 40 adults examined. Attended the monthly LOEB Meeting in Watauga. Participated in the Thanksgiving Donor/Recipient Event at UT Southwestern in Dallas Denton Triangle collected cans of food for the Denton Community Food Bank. Donated funds to help feed the homeless in Denton. Fort Worth Southeast helped grow vegetables that produce $250 worth of food per week. The Grapevine Lions Club assisted the Service Center during their annual recycling event. Lions directed traffic, handed out clipboards, and collected eyeglasses to be recycled. Lion Martha Healy was confirmed as the Volunteer of the year at Baylor, Scott, White hospital in Grapevine. She spends 40 hours a month assisting patients at the hospital and working in the gift shop. She helps heart patients after surgery. Lion Liz Lovett and Lion Kam Cheung also spend 40 hours each at Baylor a month. Lion Jim Bob serves a minimum of 24 hours assisting the Fort Worth Parole Board and the Grapevine PD. Howe Lions collected food for the local food banks in Howe. Keller provided volunteers to assist with "free meal for Veterans" at Golden Corral. Lake Cities Lions provided 110 tree saplings to the 4th grade class at Corinth Elementary School (Lake Dallas Independent School District) Texas. Each sapling had a tag tied to it with planting instructions on one side and "Happy Arbor Day from Corinth Elementary and the Lake Cities Lions Club" and the school's and Lions' logo on the opposite side. Saplings were provided by a local nursery at no cost. Both students and parents were excited to receive the saplings. The Lewisville Lions turned in 700 glasses to the District 2E-2 Eyeglass Recycling Center in Watauga. The club also worked several hours. Lewisville Lions manned a booth for PR at the Keep Lewisville Beautiful. We had an eyeglass collection box, provided information on where our community can drop off used glasses, along with information about our club. Lewisville Lions helped the LISD nurses screen 650 3,4, and 5 year olds at Lille Jackson. All children were screened in 1 day and they stayed in their classroom while we called them up one by one to screen so we did not impact their learning. It was a fantastic experience to show how Lions impact our youth. Lewisville Lions helped out at the Lewisville Senior center by setting up for their annual Veteran's lunch, and help serve the lunch to well deserved veterans. Little Elm collected cans and took to recycling center. Doing all the set-up for the Dec. 10 event, getting vendors, food, cook, paper supplies, etc. Lion Alan Upchurch and Dr. Annie Williams, McKinney Lions Club, performed 40 eye exams and dispensed 36 pairs of eyeglasses on Saturday November 12, The testing equipment was provided by the Lions Organ and Eye Bank. The North Texas Food Bank was also there to distribute fresh produce to local families. Lets give a very big appreciation

8 Page 8 District 2-E2 Club Activities to Lion Alan Upchurch and his fellow doctors for their great work. Mid-Cities Family Lions Cindy, Rose and Wade processed 400 pairs of eyeglasses. Lion Cindy cleaned 200 pairs and Lions Rose and Wade sorted 200 pairs. Mid-Cities Family Lions collected 660 pairs of eyeglasses and donated them to the Eyeglass Recycling Center. Northeast Tarrant Lions collected eyeglasses to be recycled. Northeast Tarrant Lions provided new socks and underwear for distribution by the HEB School District's Clothes Closet. A Northeast Tarrant Lion, an elected director of the Texas Lions Camp presented informational programs to Lions clubs in Glen Rose, Weatherford, Everman, Carrolton, Fort Worth Southwest, and Cleburne. Northeast Tarrant Lions presented a check to the head nurse of the HEB School district to help with the purchase of a vision screener. The club was honored for that gift at a meeting of the HEB School Board of Directors. A Northeast Tarrant Lion participated in the Pancreatic Cancer Walk at Clyde Warren Park in Dallas. Thanks to a grant from the Texas Angel Fund, Northwest Tarrant Lions were able to distribute over 250 turkeys before Thanksgiving to those that need it the most. Thanks to Larry Joe Wright Ministries for allowing us to serve from his church. We co-host a movie day for children with special needs. These sensory friendly screenings allow these children to attend and watch a movie in a relaxed atmosphere where they are the only attendees in the theater. The parents and care takers can relax and allow the children to move around and speak freely since others are not in the theater. Pottsboro. Lion Pres. Nancy Powers, (3 hrs.) Lion Sec Nancy Taylor,(3 hrs) Lion Bob Taylor (3 hrs) & 2nd VDG Pete Koschelew (1 hr) worked at the Dist.2-E2 Eyeglass Recycling Center in Watauga. Tx. Total dedicated time to this project was 7 hours per person = 21 manhours. Delivered meals to home bound citizens. Delivered 305 eyeglasses to the Dist. 2-E2 Recycling Center. 2nd VDG Pete Koschelew and Lion Marie Koschelew visited the Denison Lions club. Pottsboro Lions Club donated to the century club membership, at the bronze level, in honor of Lion Jack Kennedy. The Roanoke Lions Club made a donation for the Metroport Meals on Wheels Holiday Meals Program. The Roanoke Lions Club is dedicated to volunteering at the District 2E2 Eyeglass Recycling Center. Each month Roanoke Lions prepare thousands of glasses for mission trips going all over the world. The Roanoke Lions are now responsible for the bi-monthly trash pick-up on a half mile stretch of Marshall Creek Dr. The Colony Lions Club had a booth at The Colony Salute to Veterans event. We had a nerf shooting gallery game for the kids and raffled a TV. PLEASE NOTE Please submit Membership and Club Activities via MyLCI by the 27th of the month. 10 Volume 13, Issue 6 Page 10 Tis the Season to be Jolly so goes the song, indeed this time of the year is a favorite for most people around the world. It is a time to bring families together and share their memories and to celebrate life. At the 2E2 ERC we are thankful for all the blessings that we have enjoyed during the year, we are thankful for having the opportunity to serve others. This time of the year is also a time for Giving. It is a time to think about others in our communities or in other countries that may not be so blessed. People that have little or nothing, it is hard for us to imagine this situation because we have so much. In many countries people are suffering from poor vision. In many cases it is a situation that may be significantly improved by a pair of glasses that could correct their vision. You might think what can a pair of recycled glasses be worth to someone? The answers may surprise you. What does a pair of glasses mean to a little kid in a developing country that is struggling in school because he cannot see the blackboard? What does it mean to an elderly person in a far off land that feels useless because she or he has a hard time seeing and can not contribute to the well being of the family?? The answers to these questions for us are hard to come by because we have not been in the situation. We can however imagine the joy it would be to to see the black board and be able to read and not feel inadequate, or to be the elderly person that with the ability to see again, can complete a chore around the house that makes them feel useful and part of the family unit. What are these things worth?? They are priceless, and when you count how many people we can help by just providing a pair of recycled glasses it is truly an unbelievable benefit for all those people that are lucky enough to receive them. For providing this unbelievable benefit to so many un developing countries, we at the 2e2 ERC salute all of the Lion s in the district that have participated in the activities of the ERC. You have made a difference and you should feel proud. To those clubs or Lion s that have not had the opportunity to participate, do not despair, there is time to step up and be counted amongst those that have contributed. You can in the coming year: Make a commitment to collect more glasses Make a commitment to schedule a work day with your club at the ERC. Providing a pair of recycled glasses to someone in need can be life changing. We are also grateful to all the Lion s who have taken the time to collect glasses from all over the communities, you are the one s that provide us with the raw materials that we need to do our recycling. We also are grateful for all the Lion s and individuals that conduct missions to developing countries without you we could not help those in need you are very special people. A big thank you to all the Lion s who have taken the time to give of their time to do the sorting, cleaning and reading of the thousands of glasses that will be given to the countless missions that will distribute them to many needy people around the globe. 15 Page 15 District 2-E2 To all District 2-E2 Lions: We have a very special event happening on Friday, February 10, 2017 at 12:00pm (noon). Lion David Norcott of the Greater Arlington Lion's Club will be graduating from the Las Colinas Regional Center of Canine Companions for Independence. (CCI). CCI provides service dogs at no charge to anyone with a disability other than vision. CCI does not compete with Leader Dogs for the Blind. Seventeen Years ago David was in a horrific accident where he lost both legs and part of his right hand (as well as other, less visible injuries). David has pulled himself up by his bootstraps, taken a new tack in life and now speaks, motivates and helps others face living with prosthetic devices. David participates in 5K and 10K races and is now training for a triathlon. In May of 2016, David applied for an assistance dog from CCI and will now be part of the February graduating class. Lions Club has had a relationship with CCI dating back to the mid 1970s. In 1976, Lion's Project for CCI (LPCCI) was formed to support CCI. The Greater Arlington Lions Club is major donor to LPCCI and we are thrilled that it is now benefiting one of our own. I ask that all District 2-E2 Lions try to attend the graduation at the regional center (please bring and wear your vests). I will have photos taken and plan on writing an article for Lions International. If CCI receives enough donations from the Lions Club, their main assembly room will be renamed "The Lions Den." 17 Volume 13, Issue 6 Page 17 Let s celebrate our 100 years with a Silent Auction Cake Contest at the 3 rd Cabinet meeting in January at Decatur! Each club may bring it s best cake, no more than 2 layers, no larger than 10 round or 13x9 sheet. Also, bring a description of the cake on a sheet of paper no larger than 5 by 8 (no club identification). Please bring the cake in a container that can be taken home by the bidder Cakes will be displayed by number during the morning and the winner will be chosen after the speech contest program based on the highest bids. The cake with the highest bid will take home 50% of the money collected during the contest for their club s activities/charity account. The cake with the next highest bid will take home 25% of the money collected for their club.
