Olympic Educational Service District National Avenue North, Bremerton, WA :30 p.m. WELCOME & INTRODUCTIONS 4:35 p.m. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES/AMENDMENTS TO THE AGENDA The December 2017 Minutes and changes to the agenda will be approved. 4:40 p.m. YOUTH REPRESENTATIVE REPORT Youth Representatives on the Commission will have an opportunity to update the Commission on youth issues and activities in their community. 4:45 p.m. PRESENTATION Bridget O Conner will present information regarding the King County Best Starts for Kids program and lead a discussion regarding feasibility here in Kitsap. It is a voter-approved initiative and funding source which invests in prevention and early intervention strategies that promote healthier, more resilient children, youth, families, and communities. 5:05 p.m. PRESENTATION Laura Hyde will present information regarding advocacy skills and tips including how to easily not cross the line into lobbying in preparation for Prevention Policy Day being held 1/15/18 in Olympia. 5:15 p.m. MEMBER HIGHLIGHT A member of the Youth Commission will have time on the agenda to introduce themselves and share about their personal and professional life. 5:20 p.m. ANNOUNCEMENTS/PUBLIC COMMENT Olympia Advocacy days Prevention Policy Day -Jan. 15 and others 5:35 p.m. COMMITTEE MEETINGS Committees will meet and continue with planning and activities. Choose committee chairs. 6:15 p.m. REPORT OUT AND NEXT STEPS The committees will share their plans, progress and next steps 6:30 p.m. ADJOURNMENT Next meeting to be held 2/1/18.

3 Kitsap County Commission on Children and Youth MINUTES The Kitsap County Commission on Children and Youth meeting was held on Thursday, 4:30 p.m. at Olympic Educational Service District 114 in Bremerton. Jill Brenner, our Acting Chair facilitated this meeting and called the meeting to order. I. INTRODUCTIONS Jill asked members and guests for self-introductions. II. III. IV. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES/AMENDMENTS TO THE AGENDA The Youth Commission s November 2017 meeting minutes were reviewed and approved. YOUTH REPRESENTATIVE REPORT Jane Lindsey and other youth present offered their insights as to youth activities and concerns for this month. PRESENTATION Our Presentation on Best Starts for Kids was rescheduled to the January meeting. Laura will follow up with them to confirm. V. MEMBER HIGHLIGHT Kelly Sanchez shared information about her personal and professional life for the member highlight this month. VII. COMMITTEE OVERVIEW AND SIGN UP Laura shared information about the committees and members of the Youth Commission signed up for the committee of their choice. Members who were not present have the opportunity anytime to talk with Laura or Jill about the duties and select a committee on which to serve. Attendance was light this month and committee meetings were tabled until January. We request other members of the Youth Commission to select a committee and sign up. 4 IX. ANNOUNCEMENT AND PUBLIC COMMENT Project Connect will occur on January 23 rd in Port Orchard, January 24 th in Bremerton, and January 25 th in Kingston Prevention Policy Day is 1/15/18. Youth and adults are encouraged to attend and to please register as there is limited space in the room. Youth Mappers is having orientation on 12/18. We have room for 6 youth. The project is to perform a community resource survey and develop an ap. The project is endorsed by CCY. Kitsap Legal Services- are now accepting walk in customers. Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 1-4 at 920 Park Avenue in Bremerton. WSU Extension is hosting a Strengthening Families Facilitator Training from Dec and the 4-H Challenge Course Facilitator certification on February and April. See their website for more details. Volunteers are needed for the Point in Time Count you may apply at or call KCHP Data Convening event is being held on December 13 th at Norm Dicks Government Center from 9-11 a.m. The Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board is seeking input regarding Marijuana Advertising Rules X. ADJOURNMENT Next meeting to be held 2/1/18. All members of the Youth Commission are encouraged to attend regularly and to sign up and participate in one of the committees.
