1 Beta Omega Crescent Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity Fall 2015 Missouri State Brothers, As the fall semester is almost over, so is my term as Noble Ruler and as a member of Alpha Gamma Rho. This past summer and so far this fall semester has been a great one. We had a wonderful homecoming week. We were paired with Alpha Delta Pi sorority and with Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. We didn t finish the week as we had hoped, our best finish of week came during the homecoming parade where our float finished second. This semester the IFC decided to try a new form of recruitment, a formal recruitment they called flow. Now every fraternity Noble Ruler Report BETA OMEGA CHAPTER MISSOURI STATE has a chance to talk to every single person interested in fraternity life on campus in small groups. I thought this would become an advantage for us this semester, hoping it would boost the size of our classes. Although we only got six new members this fall semester, they are a great class. I couldn t have asked for better. This class has been the best about stepping up and wanting more leadership and taking anything on, than any previous class I can remember. This fall class has set up their own fundraiser to make money to set back for next spring recruitment. Some of the class has even stepped up and filled an empty spot as on officer, due to brothers leaving school or dropping below 12 active hours. I couldn t be more proud to see how good the future is looking for our chapter. Our other brothers who aren t seniors are still being leaders in other organizations. One of our members Evan Quinn, followed the footsteps of another brother and is the president of the Missouri State Cattlemen s Association. This year has gone by fast, just like the rest of my days in the fraternity have. I will never forget all the walk-out trips to other chapters, leadership conferences, National BBQ contests, and other trips. I couldn t have been more blessed to be an Alpha Gamma Rho, and also to be Noble Ruler of the greatest fraternity. It s been an honor. Eric Vincent Noble Ruler Celebrating 5 years As a chapter we would like to give a shout out to Mother Mary! She has been a huge part of this AGR chapter from day one. This year marks 5 official years as house mother of the Beta Omega chapter. Thank you for everything you do for us, we look forward to sharing many more memories with you in the future. 2 Alumni Relations Report Brothers, Each semester we strive to reconnect with our alumni in all ways possible. Alumni contact is essential for the development of our colligate members. Our goal is to stay in contact with all alumni of Beta Omega and other alumni in the area. Over the years we have developed many Lost brothers, if you know of any brother who is not receiving a copy please let us know. We would love to strengthen the bond between our future, current, and past brothers. We would like to invite all brothers of Alpha Gamma Rho to our 15 th Annual Pink Rose Formal. The event will be held at The University Plaza Hotel in downtown Springfield on January 16 th, Plates will cost $35 in advance and $40 at the door. There will be an alumni meeting at 6:00pm followed by dinner at 7:00pm. Keep an eye out for a formal invitation in the mail with RSVP information. We hope to see everyone that is able to attend. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me by phone at (314) or via Steele1245@live.missouristate.edu. Matt Steele VNR- Alumni Relations Brothers of Alpha Gamma Rho Shortly after the turn of the century the founding father gathered in order to create a more perfect union. The century was the 21 st and the founding fathers were those of the Beta Omega chapter of Alpha Gamma Rho. Memories of Karls Hall, our mansions on Kimbrough and a piglet named Jackpot quickly fill my mind. Although over a decade has passed my experiences and lessons learned have endured, leading me to a life I could not fathom at that time. Through 2002 to 2004 I pursue a degree in animal science and was involved with many of the extra-curricular activities offered by through the Agriculture Department to include the collegiate rodeo team, Farm Bureau, and the Horsemen s Association. After deciding that I was uncertain of what the future held I decided take a leave of absence. I headed back to Northwest Missouri and went into the construction business while operating a small cow/calf operation. Business was great, until the great depression of our time and I decided it was time to return to academics. I still remember standing on my porch, looking out through the pastures and deciding I would go to medical school. It was a perilous journey, first taking night classes and finally completing my degree from the just renamed Missouri State University and the remainder of my courses from UMKC and Missouri Western. Upon starting medical school I was amazed at how quick I adapted to a life in which I was not covered in dirt and grease, it was bitter sweet. Receiving a scholarship from the Army I graduated from Kansas City University of Medicine and Bioscience in Upon graduation the Army thought I would like to relocate to the lovely high plains desert of El Paso, Tx to complete my internship at William Beaumont Army Medical Center. If you love Mexican food, sand and no water I highly recommend this place. Currently I serve as a Flight Surgeon for the st Assault Helicopter Battalion, nicknamed Apocalypse. Not many physicians get the chance to do as many awesome things as this job allows. From shooting the M-240 (a big machine gun) out of the side of a Blackhawk, working with Medivac and participating in large scale air assaults I have spent well over a hundred hours working on the UH-60 Blackhawk. I have responded to multiple emergency situation and evacuations earning the Army Commendation Medal. It is a truly rewarding and exciting experience. At this time I am still unsure of what the future may hold. I often remind myself of a famous quote by Joe Dirt, Life s a garden, dig it and continuously engage in new and exciting endeavors. I am grateful to the brothers of Alpha Gamma Rho, the experiences and lessons learned. I have truly been blessed and extend my thanks to all who have helped me along the way. Brothers, if there is anything that I can do for you please do not hesitate to contact me. John Fanning John.fanning2@gmail.com Crescent Publishing Service This issue of the Beta Omega Chapter Crescent was published through the Crescent Publishing Service (CPS). This is a special project of the Alpha Gamma Rho Home Office to assist chapters in improving communications with alumni. Chapters pay a small fee for the service below the actual production cost to encourage regular contact. This project is made possible by donations from alumni like you. Please consider contributing.
3 Alumni Spotlight Glynn T. Tonsor Graduating Year and Degree: Dec 2001 Ag. Business Family: Married (Shauna) with 3 kids (Ethan-7, Levi-5, and Aubree-2) Hobbies: Playing noontime basketball, playing/coaching sports with my kids, reading The Economist What AGR meant to Glynn and his favorite memory: My experience with Alpha Gamma Rho was excellent. Between the big picture aspects of being part of initiating AGR at MSU to the individual aspects of getting to know many AGR brothers the experience was certainly memorable. Tangibly, the further development of my leadership, accounting, and social skills that occurred across multiple AGR functions are benefits that I appreciate. If I had to pick one memorable moment it would be our firewood based fundraiser where we cut, split, hauled, and sold wood to Springfield residents. The monetary success we had paled in comparison to the non-monetary benefits of engaging as a group in a task that was far from simple without a roadmap to follow. Ultimately our group coming together AND meeting our monetary goals stick in my mind as a memorable experience. VNR Finance Report This semester at Beta Omega has been very busy pertaining to financial operations. As most know, financial management has not been a strong point of our chapter for quite some time. This semester we have begun to take action to improve the structure of our financial operations. Making it easier not only for the management side, but also adding features that make it easier on brothers to meet their obligations. Our hope, is that by integrating a third party management system into our chapter we will be able to strengthen financially, and overall, be able to better Alpha Gamma Rho. I look forward to updating you as to the financial progress of our chapter in upcoming semesters, and having the ability to provide more detailed information. Please contact us if you have any questions about finances. Alex Lauberth - VNR Finance House Management Report Beta Omega is still located on the corner of Holland and Grand and right next to campus. We have been at this house now for three semesters. At the moment we have five members living in the house. We are still having struggles filing up the house. Our house is very old and not appealing to a lot of the members. That is a main reason why we are having troubles filling the house. We are planning on getting a new house. However, with our financial troubles we were also looking at a commercial building as well. This building will help us pay for the house since we could hold fundraising events. Our ultimate goal though is still to move back on Elm street which is considered Greek Row. Patrick Ruiz - VNR Management & Operations Find other AGR Brothers on Facebook and strengthen your bond. It s as easy as searching for Alpha Gamma Rho Beta Omega. Join a professional network of Alpha Gamma Rho brothers by search Alpha Gamma Rho Alumni Network on LinkedIn.
4 New Member Spotlight My name is Jeramiah Chipps and I am 18 years old. I am from Trenton, Missouri which is located in north central Missouri roughly four hours from Springfield. I plan on majoring in Agricultural Business Marketing and Sales, driven from my Ag Sales experience in FFA. I grew up on a 24 acre area of land that was mainly timber, my family did not farm however I did work on a local dairy farm owned and operated by Eric Hoffman. I enjoy hunting, fishing, and competing in sporting events, and eventually want to coach high school football one day. Alpha Gamma Rho sparked my interest here at Missouri State even though I originally did not plan to join a Fraternity. AGR won me over because of the brotherly bond that the members have between each other, to me it feels stronger than any other Fraternity. Most these gentlemen came from small towns or an agriculture background like myself, and to me that is special to find here in a big city. It is an honor to be a member of Alpha Gamma Rho and I will allow it to grow me as a man, and to strengthen the bond between my brothers and I. Recruitment Report This semester we have been fortunate to receive six new members. Initially we thought we would have more new members because of the new formal recruitment that Missouri State University fraternities all participated in. However things didn t work out quite like we had planned. But we were blessed with the opportunity to welcome six new members as brothers into our fraternity. Paul Stark - VNR Recruitment 2015 Beta Omega New Initiates 184, Bruno Martins Hometown: Sao Paulo, Brazil Major: Agriculture Science. 185, Thomas Eggerman Hometown: Lockwood, MO Major: Agronomy. 186, Cole Rice Hometown: Linn, MO Major: Natural Resources 187, Jeramiah Chipps Hometown: Trenton, MO Major: Agricultural Business Marketing and Sales 188, Logan Dunlap Hometown: Blue Springs, MO Major: Agricultural Business Marketing and Sales 189, Ryan Korsmeyer Hometown: Parkville, MO Major: Agricultural Business Marketing and Sales
5 New Member Spotlight My name is Thomas Eggerman and I am a freshman at Missouri State University and a new member of the Beta Omega chapter of Alpha Gamma Rho. I am from Lockwood, Missouri and grew up on a 3,500 acre row crop and Black Angus cattle farm and I am majoring in Agronomy. Six of my cousins have been members of Beta Omega here since it started in 2002, and I am the next in line. They told me that I needed to be involved with Rho and now I see why. There is a common bond of brotherhood and responsibility. The brothers that I have today are some of my closest friends and will always be there for me. Rho has definitely made my college experience a better one, and I am excited to see where it leads me in the future. New Membership Development Report As VNR New Membership Development I am proud of all things accomplished with our new brothers this semester. They exceeded expectations in everything that was thrown at them during educational, brotherhood, and informational events through new membership development. Basic information involved with being a new brother of Alpha Gamma Rho, such as basics of greek life and meeting processes, were explored. Educational events that have taken place include fine dining etiquette, suit and tie etiquette, and resume building. Beyond that, the newest brothers of the chapter were able to host an event with new members of Alpha Delta Pi, construct a family tree involving their line of descendants in the fraternity, and organize a small fundraiser for future brothers. These events have allowed them to grow personally by expanding their communication skills, broadening their knowledge of those before them, and increasing their ability to work hard for their accomplishments. In other words, these activities lead to creating better men. I have very high hopes in the new brothers for they will be future leaders of the chapter. Any recommendations for improvement in the new membership program are always welcome. Blade Kalleck VNR Membership Development Kalleck123@live.missouristate.edu VNR Planning Report This past semester for AGR was definitely one of rebuild and growth. From a planning perspective, we have added fundraising options and we are already looking to raise more money than in the recent years combined. We successfully raised $800 from our semiannual gun raffle. I cannot thank you enough to all alumni involved! We also have new events, highlighted by a Barnwarming with our sister chapter, Sigma Alpha. This will be a great event to pull all ag clubs together and hopefully create a tradition. Things are looking up for the Beta Omega chapter and we are so thankful for all alumni and advisors who see our will and push us to succeed.
