Beta Crescent Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity Winter 2014 Greetings from the men of Beta Chapter, As winter sets in, I look back on the fall semester and I quickly realize that it went by way to fast! I have been a member of Beta Chapter for three and a half years and I have never seen a semester as jam packed with excitement and activity as this one! Everything from recruitment to philanthropy, homecoming, brotherhood activities to alumni events and game day Saturdays made semester fly by and I am very proud to be a Brother of Alpha Gamma Rho, Beta Chapter. Just like our favorite football team, Beta Chapter has had a very busy and successful semester. In September we welcomed eight new men into our order as well an honorary membership given to Ted Berry, who has as much respect for AGR and what we stand for as any member I have met. The new members have been a great and lively addition to our brotherhood! Recruitment has really been successful. As we go into spring semester, we are have set a very high goal of initiating 24 new members! This challenge has been met by the brothers with a lot of motivation, we believe that we can do it, and our new relationship with PhiredUp recruitment, I believe that we can meet this goal and set a high standard for years to come. October brought us to homecoming, and thanks to a bit of rain, we had a great turnout for our reception and tailgate. It is always great to see old and new faces alike at alumni events. We also had a fun time building our homecoming parade float (even though we didn t place). Halloween took place on Halloween night and was a great turnout for all who came and thanks to our increased risk management Noble Ruler Report What s inside Ohio State practices; the event went on without a problem. During November, we had the opportunity to meet with the AGR National Board of Directors and show them all the history and heritage we live out every day as AGRs on Ohio State s campus. That evening we had a reception at the house for the Board as well as many alumni and we were proud to have Dr. J (Vice President of Student Life) come and share her thoughts about AGR and the future of AGR (which were all good!). Our Movember (mustache growing competition) campaign to raise money for men s health awareness featured four very prominent mustaches of AGR men and helped us raise over $1,100 for the cause throughout the month of November. December brought us to the annual Holiday Classic cattle show, which was also a successful time for the Fraternity. As I look back on the semester, I am very proud of all the things we were able to accomplish and I am anxious to see what Spring semester brings us! Fraternally, Samuel Wildman Noble Ruler Save the Date for National Convention! August 1-4 Indianapolis, Indiana Holiday Classic 2014 Executive Team Founder s Day And More...

Holiday Classic December brought us to the end of the semester as well as to the annual Holiday Classic cattle show. While the weather gave us a few fits this year, we were able to host a great show and we had a great time doing it. We had 384 total head of cattle at the show this year, which made for a very good show. The Holiday Classic featured two very good judges in Mr. Ryan Cummins from Katy, Texas, and Mr. Patrick Gunn (Brother from Delta chapter). The cattle were top notch and the show ran very smoothly. Our philanthropy fundraiser at the show was also a success as we were able to raise $1,000 for the Growing for a Cure Foundation. The foundation combines research from both the James Medical Center as well as from several researchers from the College of Food, Agriculture and Environmental Science to research foods that can be grown to help mitigate cancer and certain other diseases. We were very proud of the turnout of the show as well as the success we have had the past few years with our show. Thank you very much to all of our sponsors, and to our alumni support and judges for all your help in making this years show one of the best yet! Founder s Day - February 22nd The Brothers at 1979 Iuka Avenue would like to extend our greatest appreciations to our alumni that visited the Beta house last February for our annual Founder s Day. We are also grateful and give special thanks to our guest, Michael Torrey, a Kansas State AGR Alumnus. This year, Founder s Day will be held on February 22, beginning with a 1:30 p.m. Luncheon at the Fawcett Center and includes a word by a notable speaker. Prior to this will be a meet and greet with the chapter where our beloved alumni can check in, update their contact information and pay their dues, if necessary. Following the lunch will, as always, be a reception back at the house starting at approximately 4:00 p.m. All Alumni should park at the house and take a shuttle bus to the meal. We appreciate your many years of friendship, fellowship and dedication to making better men!

Meet the 2014 Executive Team Noble Ruler - Colin Barclay My name is Colin Barclay and I am the 2014 Noble Ruler. I m a 3rd year from Delphos, Ohio, majoring in Sustainable Plant Systems with a specialization in Agronomy here at Ohio. When I look at the Chapter, my main focus is leaving it in better condition than when I came in. I m excited to see what the men of Alpha Gamma Rho can do this upcoming year with the transition of moving out of the house for the year. I plan to see that our membership numbers will increase, our GPA will move its way up, and a whole series of other goals. I hope that this year will truly give rise to our purpose of Making Better Men. VNR Finance - Aaron Sollars My name is Aaron Sollars and I am the 2014 VNR Finance. This year, I plan to keep accurate and up to date records of our income and expenses electronically and organize all of our old records to help us progress in the future. VNR Activities - David Cunningham My name is David Cunningham I am the returning VNR Activities chair for the year. Last year was a great year for activities at the Alpha Gamma Rho house, I achieved my personal goal of having at least one brotherhood activity a week. Formal was a great success at Kalahari. My goal this year is to work in conjunction with VNR recruitment to help boost numbers in the Chapter. I m excited for what the year brings activity wise for the last semester in the old house and the first semester outside the house. It will be a year to remember. VNR Alumni Relations - Tyler Butler My name is Tyler Butler from Morrow County, Ohio. I m a fourth year Agricultural Communications major proudly serving my second term as VNR Alumni Relations for the Beta Chapter. I have returned this year with many ambitions, all in the name of improving our Chapter and bettering our organization as a whole. My time at 1979 Iuka Avenue has certainly led me to become a Better Man and I am very excited to see what I can give back in I would like to remind all of our alumni and brothers near and far that you are always welcome at the Beta house, especialy during our formal Monday night dinners. There, you will be greeted by the men and will get a feel for the direction our Chapter is headed, not to mention having the pleasure to indulge yourselves in a meal prepared by our talented chef Gary Nixon.

Meet the 2014 Executive Team VNR Recruitment - Preston Anderson My name is Trey (Preston) Anderson from Jeffersonville, Ohio. I have been elected to serve as the 2014 VNR Recruitment. The Chapter has been working closely with a company called PhiredUp Productions to better our efforts and help give us a more structured appraoch to seeking potential new members. Paul Manly is our Organizational Growth Coach and PhiredUp representative, and has led us to institute teams within our fraternity. Each team will consist of brothers of different ranks and backgrounds and all teams will be responsible for updating the names list that we were able to form last year with the latest information for all of the men interested in joining the Beta Chapter. This semester our goal is to welcome 20 new members to our organization. VNR House and Grounds - Joshua Wells Hello my name is Josh Wells. I am a second year majoring in Agricultural Systems Management, and I am from Wapakoneta, Ohio. I am currently serving as VNR House and Grounds for As House and Grounds, I hope to build upon the leadership that has preceded me, and continue to encourage respect for the house. I also look to make sure care is taken of the house by myself and my brothers. Another one of my goals is to make sure the transition goes smoothly as we move out of the house and into Theta Xi during the renovation project. With my term just beginning, I am already seeing improvements, and I am looking forward to the rest of the year with my brothers. VNR Planning - Braiden Tom My name is Braiden Tom and I am the 2014 VNR Planning Chair. I am a sophomore Agribusiness and Applied Economics/Agricultural Communications major from Xenia, Ohio. It is an exciting year to be a Beta and have a part in the establishment of our new house. I take my position very seriously, and my brothers and I look forward to the opportunity to lead our chapter forward into the future. VNR Membership Development - Sam Walter My name is Sam Walter, from Marion Ohio, and I am the 2014 VNR Membership Development chair. As we to work towards initiating quality members, I plan to continue to see that our new members are educated on the history and values of Alpha Gamma Rho. I am excited to have the opportunity to be a part of introducing our new members to what it means to be a brother of the Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity as well as a member of the Beta Chapter house.

Meet the 2014 Executive Team VNR Scholarship - Heath Wilgus My name is Heath Wilgus, a fourth year majoring in Counstructions Systems Management from Morrow County, Ohio. As the 2014 VNR Scholarship, I look forward to helping our members movie forward in progressing their grades and improving the Chapter as a whole. Young Leadership Conference Report The brothers of the Beta chapter will always recognize a great man when they see one. That being said, we also like to take the time to reflect on the work and lives of those that have come before us. Recieving word that a man of 1979 Iuka Avenue has passed always brings a sense of rememberance and honor to our house. With Honoring Beta Brothers This year, the men of the Beta Chapter are working together with Sigma Alpha to hold the Young Leader s Conference for students in high school. The conference will include speakers from both inside the college and out who will be covering important topics like stepping outside the comfort zone, networking, social media, resume building, and at the end, a tour of the college. This is the first Young Leader s conference being put on by the undergraduates and we are all excited to do so with the goal of developing high school youth into the leaders of tomorrow. respect, below is a list of brothers lost in recent months past. Please take a moment in thought of these men... Merle Voris, Pin 464/Initiated in 1942 John Ewart, Pin 639/Initiated in 1955 Dale James Nagel Crescent Publishing Service This issue of the Beta Chapter Crescent was published through the Crescent Publishing Service (CPS). This is a special project of the Alpha Gamma Rho Home Office to assist chapters in improving communications with alumni. Chapters pay a small fee for the service, less than the actual production cost, to encourage regular contact. This project is made possible by donations from alumni like you. Please consider contributing.

Fall and Homecoming 2013 As always, the browning leaves and cheering football stadiums brought on the fall celebrations of This year, the Beta Chapter was thrilled to partake in many activities to welcome the incoming students to the Ohio State campus and to get involved with the rest of the greek community. We proudly hosted events such as Back to School Cookouts and Movie Nights with AGR. Both of these events were a wild success, bringing in many members of the student body and allowing the chapter to mingle with those unfimiliar with the campus. Not to mention our involvement with college intramurals with this years quite impressive AGR Softball Team. The brothers also got involved, doing what we could for the citizens of the Columbus area by getting our hands dirty in our 17th Avenue clean up as well as our annual AGR Pumpkin Patch. Perhaps most notable however, the 2013 Homecoming celebration held at the beta chapter house. We welcomed many alumni and their families with friendly faces and great food. A special thanks goes to all those that joined us on that fine day. The brothers also took on the job of inviting our homecoming sororoty pair Delta Gamma, to join us in building a float to be displayed during the Homecoming Parade.

AGR National Board of Directors Visit On November 6th our National AGR Board of Directors held their fall meetings in Columbus. Beta Chapter hosted the Board for a tour of Campus, AGR Beta House, Delta Tau Delta House, lunch at the Black Well Inn on Campus and ended the day with a reception at the house. There were over 65 AGR s (National Board and Beta Alumni), spouses and undergraduate brothers in attendance for the reception. One of the purposes of the National Board s meetings was a meeting of the AGR Housing Resources Trust Board. They were very interested in hearing about our renovation. Additionally we had a very special guest at our reception. Dr. J (Javaune Marie Adams-Gaston), VP of Student Life (Greek Life, Campus housing, Ohio Union, etc.) joined us to update us on the progress of Sophomore Housing and STEP (Second-Year Transformational Experience Program). It was a very proud moment to have Dr. J very specifically call out Beta Chapter as the leader in helping the Greek system move forward. She spoke extremely well of Mike Bumgarner and Jack Fisher s roles in this process as well. VNR Alumni Relations Report First and foremost, I would like to take this moment to thank any and all Alumni that joined Alpha Gamma Rho Beta Chapter for our 2013 Homecoming Celebration. It was truly an exciting day full of energy, memories, and building a brotherly bond. Although that day was truly enjoyable, many of our alumni are well aware that the work being done at 1979 Iuka Avenue does not stop when the celebrations come to a close. The current executive team is seeing to it that this Fraternity survives on campus through working as a closely knit group and making the changes and decisions that have to be made to strengthen our foundation. One most prominent changes AGR is undergoing this upcoming year includes taking a better look at our recruiting methods and ensuring that we are doing all we can to reach out to the entire campus. We are in the business of Making Better Men, no matter what side of the river our members come from. It has never been questioned, any AGR, has always been welcomed in visiting 1979 Iuka Avenue. It is refreshing to see interaction between the generations of brother s, I encourage our alumni to join us for our Monday night Formal Dinners. Our brothers meet in the formal living room at 5:15 p.m. in preparation for our meal which begins at 5:30 p.m. Beta is going through some exciting changes, most of all preparing for our house renivation. I encourage you all to attend the years Founder s Day on February 22nd to learn more about this massive project. Also, we are always looking to work with our alumni to update our contact information for all of our brothers, please feel free to contact me with any changes to , address, or phone numbers. God Bless Fraternally, Tyler Butler VNR Alumni Relations Cell: (614) butler.599@osu.edu
