2 What is Relay For Life? On average, 1 in 3 people contract cancer, and 1 in 4 will die from the disease. Cancer does not discriminate, does not show mercy. It adacks husbands, wives, children, mothers, fathers, sisters and brothers alike. But we can fight back. You can join over 600 students this year as we try to fight for a cure. Relay For Life, the signature fundraising event for the American Cancer Society, is the largest non- profit fundraising acmvity in the world. This overnight team event, held in over 32 countries, celebrates cancer survivorship while simultaneously raising money to support cancer research, educamon, and pament services. Involving more than 600 parmcipants, cancer survivors, and visitors from the local community, Fairfield University Relay For Life raises more than $50,000 per year. On April 4 th, the eighth annual Fairfield University Relay For Life will adempt to raise more money than ever before. Achieving such a losy goal will not be possible without corporate support from our local community. We would like for you to be part of this remarkable event by joining us as a sponsor. How can you help? Monetary Dona8ons: Every donamon Relay For Life receives goes to the American Cancer Society. Your donamon will help further cancer research and provide aid and recognimon to those already diagnosed. Funds donated to the American Cancer Society have already helped to build a new Hope Lodge in Boston, which provides a place for paments and families to stay during these treatments. Your tax- deducmble donamon will help fund these lodges, among other things. In- Kind Dona8ons: These donamons include entertainment or food for the event and Survivor GiSs, which are given to all our thirty- plus survivor guests. AddiMonally, we raffle off some items to raise more money. Any type of donamon will have a lasmng effect on cancer paments, cancer survivors, and Relay supporters, and will help to draw posimve adenmon to your corporamon through numerous advermsing opportunimes. Making A Team: Teams are the backbone of our event. They not only raise money, but at the event, cheer on survivors and raise morale for those going through treatment. CreaMng a team with your business will be beneficial not only to the individual employees parmcipamng in the event, but to the whole company because you get to see the value of your contribumon. 3 Meet a Cancer Survivor: Alex Boothe 16 On March 26, 2010 an atomic bomb was dropped on my life, I was diagnosed with Non- Hodgkin s Lymphoma. Yes, cancer at almost sixteen years old. To ask me 4 years ago what it means to have cancer, I would have responded with a blank stare, a confused look, and a nonchalant reply of no idea. LiDle did I know that this foreign concept, this unknown killer, would change my life forever. It started out with an innocent visit to the doctor s before my departure to Florida for Spring Break. I had a lingering cough, and finally the doctor agreed to take an x- ray of my chest in suspicion of me having asthma. This scan discovered a mass near my heart, and is possibly one of the luckiest events to have happened to my life. They caught the cancer early, and I was to Boothe speaking at last year s begin treatment immediately. Relay For Life of Fairfield University For the first month of the inimal treatment process, I was conmnuously hoping and praying this was one big nightmare and that I would awake unscathed. Unfortunately, around two months into treatment I realized that was not the case. Something truly does get lost in the translamon with the descripmon of chemotherapy, as it was one of the hardest aspects of having cancer. The receiving of the chemotherapy would retract all of my energy away, leaving me feeling helpless and incoherent. A sensamon of nausea was almost always sure to follow, just a lidle reminder that the medicine was funcmoning. Looking back on it now, I never really did have a this is the end kind of feeling that a lot of people ask me about. I constantly am quesmoned about the hardest part of treatment, did I almost die, why didn t I just give up? I always wanted to stay posimve throughout my treatment, because I knew I had the love and support of my friends, family, and so many other on- lookers roomng for me to beat this thing. Their hope urged me to conmnue fighMng, as I wanted to badle through this and experience life to its fullest. On April 26, 2012 I was officially announced into remission from my badle with cancer. I had won. Now 2 years later, at Fairfield University, cancer is somewhat of a fading memory with me. I love being involved with Relay For Life, as it not only honors people s badle with cancer, but it allows for me to hopefully stand as a testament for the success of this foundamon. Relay inspires hope; it proves that we can beat cancer hopefully to a point that no one will have to go through the rigors of this terrible disease.

Companies at the PlaMnum and Diamond Sponsorship levels will be announced and introduced at this ceremony. Diamond Sponsors will even get a chance to present a check on stage during this Mme. Company Name on 2014 Event T- Shirt Sponsors at the purple level and above will have their company s name placed on our event t- shirt.
