38 A Temporal & Functional Neural Model of Ownership SFG/cACC: Attentional orientation to salient (Carretié et al., 2004), and positively rewarding objects (Liu et al., 2007). Anterior Inferior Parietal Cortex - SMG: Automatic activation of motor affordances associated with manipulable owned objects (Handy et al., 2003; Chao & Martin, 2000). Posterior Insula: Integration of emotion and behaviour (Dupont et al., 2003) during positively rewarding experience (Liu et al., 2007).

39 A Temporal & Functional Neural Model of Ownership What these data suggest is that: 1. Ownership captures attention - SFG/cACC 2. Ownership is rewarding to self - even for low value items - right posterior insula 3. Owned objects are processed in terms of their potential for use - left SMG (RH participants) This area is automatically activated for tools but only for OWNED tools here. Explicit cognitive encoding tasks (trait paradigm) might mask the importance of these implicit, autonomic, affective processes in SRE - Turk et al. (2008).
