Healthcare Providers are the center of care for screening and current recommendations if you have high cholesterol Factors that affect cholesterol include your genetic make-up, type of food you eat, weight, and physical activity. People with high cholesterol have twice the risk of heart disease compared to those with normal levels. High cholesterol has no symptoms, so routine screening is recommended. For individuals with normal cholesterol should be screened every 5 years and if you have high cholesterol, testing should be monitored. If you are unable to control your cholesterol with exercise and diet, follow your healthcare provider s recommendation for medication. Risk factors that you can control are: -eating less animal products and saturated fat -maintaining normal weight -if overweight, lose weight - maintaining an active lifestyle, especially 150 minutes of moderate exercise each week

Falls Prevention Falls Prevention is one of the many focuses in September. A fall of any kind can have a big impact on your life. VNAHG encourages all employees and their families to be aware and recognize hazards at home and at work. Wearing weather appropriate footwear is essential to safety, whether at home or work.. 3 NEWSLETTER Eat 5 day -More Fruits and Vegetables September is the month to focus on fruit and vegetable servings. The my plate minimum recommendation is 2 ½ cups per day; however, the American Heart Association is recommending 4-4 ½ cups for heart health. This month, take a look at what you eat, count how many ½ cup servings of fruit and vegetables, fresh or frozen, eaten in a day and increase that by two (2) or more, which should replace other types of foods eaten each day. Ovarian Cancer Ovarian/Prostate Cancer Awareness Most women have one or more risk factors for ovarian cancer. But most of the common factors only slightly increase your risk, so they only partly explain the frequency of the disease. So far, what is known about risk factors has not translated into practical ways to prevent most cases of ovarian cancer. Early detection is the answer. 1.See your gynecologist regularly. 2. see your doctor if you have symptoms: abdominal swelling or bloating (due to a mass or a buildup of fluid), pelvic pressure or abdominal pain, difficulty eating or feeling full quickly, and/or urinary symptoms. 3.The 2 tests used most often to screen for ovarian cancer are transvaginal ultrasound (TVUS) and the CA-125 blood test. Prostate Cancer: Paint Night in Holmdel The ultimate goal is to prevent men from developing prostate cancer. Although significant progress has been made and genetic and environmental risk factors for prostate cancer have been identified, the evidence is not strong enough for conclusive recommendations. 1.Know your risk. Age, Race, family history and living in the United States north Pennsylvania (across the country associated with lower vitamin D). 2.Healthy living (healthy food, exercise, stress reduction and maintain healthy weight. 3.See your healthcare provider regularly PSA recommendations have changed.
