4 Welcome to the 11th Annual Promising Pathways Conference on Autism Spectrum Disorder! We are very pleased to welcome our keynote speaker, Sarah Spence, MD, PhD, from the Autism Spectrum Center at Boston Children s Hospital. Dr. Spence s keynote presentation is titled The Current and Future in Autism Spectrum Disorder Diagnosis and Treatment. Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a complex neurodevelopmental disorder. Currently we have many tools for diagnosis and a number of therapies and medications designed to treat the clinical symptoms. However increasing knowledge about the underlying neurophysiological pathology is leading to exciting new diagnostics and mechanistically based therapeutics. In this keynote session, Dr. Spence will describe current diagnostic methods and available pharmacological treatments for AS, as well as pathophysiological neural pathways that are being used to develop new diagnostics and therapies. We are confident you will find this session interesting and informative! Dr. Spence will also present during the first breakout session from 11:00 to 12:00: Neurological Co-morbidities in ASD: Sleep, Seizures, etc. Please see the session abstract on page 10 for additional information. Each year we welcome parents, educators, healthcare workers and community members interested in serving individuals with autism spectrum disorder to the Promising Pathways conference. Through donations from our generous community and business sponsors, we are able to continue to offer the conference at no charge to attendees. While we do not specifically endorse sponsors, we do encourage you to visit our vendor exhibit and learn more about the programs and services available in our area.
