4 Download the PDF version Dear Public Service Director, Those living with Stage IV metastatic breast cancer face a different reality, a sobering reality that Stage IV breast cancer is terminal. There is no known cure. Today, more than 154,000 women and men are fighting this disease in the U.S. And so are we. It's critical that women and men know the facts about this disease and understand that breast cancer claims more than 40,000 lives in the U.S. each year most from Stage IV metastatic breast cancer. Many more will continue to die, until we change this reality. It starts with hope. Since 1982, Susan G. Komen has played a critical role in every major advance in the fight against breast cancer transforming how the world talks about and treats this disease, and helping to turn millions of breast cancer patients into breast cancer survivors. Susan G. Komen is a force united by a promise to end breast cancer. Komen is fueling the best science and making the biggest impact in the fight against breast cancer. Our new Bold Goal is to reduce the current number of breast cancer deaths in the U.S. by half by We hope that you will help educate your viewers about metastatic breast cancer support, research and prevention by airing the new PSAs titled "Komen - More Than Pink Valynda" (:60, :30). These heartfelt PSAs are based on the true story of metastatic breast cancer fighter Valynda Planeta. Valynda was diagnosed with Stage IV breast cancer just after turning 36 years old. Wife and mother to four children, Valynda continues to battle the disease on a daily basis, now going on 20 months of straight treatment. Valynda describes writing letters to her children, so that she can leave something to them after she's gone. By revealing what the new normal of cancer looks like, Valynda hopes to become an advocate so that her children and loved ones will never have to suffer like she has.
